Welcome, ladies and gentleman, to my daily DinoFight. I always appreciate my loyal readers, but for those of you who are new, every day I pit two of the most formidable dinosaurs to ever exist against one another in a fight to the death (most of the time). Medium division, round 2, fight 22: Neovenator vs Styracosaurus InGen File: Neovenator [img]https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-hK4SBH7d0-4/UiquW-cgRSI/AAAAAAAAAII/wJ-01Kxn0Kw/s640/blogger-image--1480429934.jpg[/img] Code Name: Hunter Danger Level: Very dangerous Height: 14 feet Length: 33 feet Weight: 3 tons Speed: 28 mph Diet: Various herbivores Weapons: Bite Description: Neovenator is one of the original dinosaurs cloned. It was intended to be an attraction when the park re-opened, but these plans were scrapped when it became apparent that they enjoyed hiding. The animals hid wherever they could, and if they had nowhere to hide, they became aggressive. Luckily it has zero kill record of people. However, a male Neovenator did badly maim one keeper, and it appears that it was because he got too close to the dinosaur while it was feeding. They have a ridge down their back composed of muscle, and its purpose is unknown. When attacking prey, they hook into it with their curved claws then bite its neck until the prey animal dies in typical predatory fashion. Their bites are among the most powerful in all of the park proportionate to size. Despite this, it is endangered due to competition with other carnivores and has been driven into one very small range on Isla Sorna where it can hide well, and less than 10 individuals are thought to exist. Not much else is known about Neovenator because it is hard to find them and the plan is to let them go extinct on their own (as of 2011), something which should happen within the next couple years, as the females have died out completely and all of the males are very old. InGen File: Styracosaurus [img]https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zSiMYWqKWgw/UiquX5dp_II/AAAAAAAAAIQ/gCz_jmNAvo0/s640/blogger-image-21185791.jpg[/img] Code Name: Rhino Danger Level: Harmless unless provoked Height: 9 feet Length: 20 feet Weight: 2.75 tons Speed: Charges at 28 mph Diet: Various plants Weapons: Horns, speed Description: Styracosaurus is one of InGen's most popular dinosaurs. In the original park merchandise sold well and in the new park it will likely sell even better. Styracosaurus inhabits both Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna and females are the most common gender on Site A while males are on Site B, something that has led to a difference in numbers as well as other various things. The males are more easily preyed upon, being solitary, and thus have a smaller population. Females travel in herds with only one adult male and are harder to prey upon due to the herd's human-like care for one another. Styracosaurus are greenish brown with dark green or brown vertical stripes along their backs, tails, legs and faces. They are best known for having a huge array of threatening horns, with males having six long frill horns up to three or possibly four feet long and one nose horn up to three feet. Melanistic Styracosaurus have been recorded on multiple occasions and, despite once being fairly numerous around 1998, they are now endangered due to poaching by big game hunters who can sell their horns for well over five million dollars, being sheathed in what is thought to be ivory. Fight! [img]http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2013/047/5/2/on_the_hunt___papo_allosaurus_styracosaurus_by_totemwolfie-d5v7m7n.jpg[/img] On Isla Nublar a female Styracosaurus angrily stomps through the dusty plains of the north east. She walks under the ruins of a viewing tower lying on a rope suspended bridge and pays no attention to the herd of tiny Minmi coming her way. She simply muscles her way through them when they come to her and a wake of tiny flipped over ankylosaurs are left in her wake. A flock of Tapejara glide overhead as she keeps stomping through the island aimlessly. She doesn't concentrate on her destination but rather her anger induced by her mate. He has failed to return with nesting material yet again and she now has to find some herself, but first she needs to let out some anger. The Styracosaurus eventually comes to a small pool with some fish in it and an Irritator family resting in the shade of an acacia tree. She drinks a little water before splashing it up on the ground to get a nice mud hole to roll around in. She starts rolling in it to keep cool, but the sun is suddenly eclipsed by a figure standing over her. A Neovenator male, returning for his daily visit to the watering hole, nudges the intruder gently to let her know it's his turn. In no mood to give up her relaxing mud bath to a random carnivore, she rolls to her feet, scratches the dusty ground with them, and starts to circle her rival. The Neovenator simply walks past her, nonchalantly drinking the water and wading in to it. Outraged at him ignoring her challenge and moseying on in such a composed and calm manner, the Styracosaurus charges the Neovenator from behind and stabs him right in the tail with her horn. She dislodges it and steps back, lowering her head and snorting as her rival turns with a low roar. If it's a fight she wants, it's a fight she'll get. The lithe and nimble Neovenator quickly moves out of the water then dashes full speed at her, leaping to the side when she thrust her horn up. When her front feet touch the ground he dashes to her again, biting her shoulder and tearing back, leaping away as she turned. He jumps back several times, taunting her into chasing him. She stamps her feet and sprints after him, matching his speed but he easily dodges her charge like a matador. The rhino-like beast turns to receive a bite to the longest horn on her frill, the ivory protrusion snapping off. She watches the Neovenator carefully, memorizing his jumping pattern... *fake a right jump, left jump, right jump, left jump, fake a forward jump, jump back, repeat* She approaches him and plays along with his jumping until he feigns the right jump, at which point she runs to the left and he jumps right on to her horn when he bounces left. The Neovenator does manage to lessen the wound, but her horn still stabs into his skin and tears it open. He limps back with a yelp and starts to reassess the situation but the angry Styracosaurus charges again. Her nose horn jabs up at his throat but he yanks his head back. The Neovenator bites her nose horn and shakes his head side to side, snapping it off. But even without the three foot horn on her nose, the Styracosaurus is not weaponless. The Neovenator has limped back a ways but the ceratopsian easily catches him. The Neovenator roars in pain as she stabs her frill spikes into him, muscling him to the ground. The Irritator family, still lying down, watch the rivals battle it out. The Styracosaurus gets kicked in the face twice before she pulls her frill spikes out of the Neovenator. He quickly gets away from her and crawls into the water but her horns pierce his tail once more. She yanks him back by the tail but he kicks her face and pulls himself free. The fleeing Neovenator retreats into the water and swims to the deeper end until the Styracosaurus leaves him be, enjoying her mud rolling while he limps to the acacia tree shade, waiting his turn. WINNER: STYRACOSAURUS [img]https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-UBaPRMzVXOg/UiquYlePmxI/AAAAAAAAAIY/ldltEM10tcs/s640/blogger-image-622096555.jpg[/img] Even though Neovenator is a highly advanced predator, ceratopsians are highly evolved prey capable of defeating most predators with a simple stab. Their horns are deadly and numerous weapons, especially in Styracosaurus' case. Ultimately, the smaller but more stable ceratopsian defeated the predator.

Okay, first, I'm glad that I'm not the only one up this late, Second, great fight, Third, Neovenator is being a wimp. I can't quite say I agree with the winner. Styracosaurus was pretty bad news, but I think that Neovenator was pulling a my sister and backing off at every little bit of pain. Man up, and fight like you want to be declared strongest medium sized dinosaur. Ps, I've though of a Spinosaur that could replace Suchomimus, option 1. Suchosaurus, 30 feet long, could be Baryonyx, who cares. 2. Sigilmassasaurus, 25 feet long, stronger than the other Spinosaurs, might be a Carcharadontosaur, again, who cares.

Wasn't really that late to me when I posted it (9:30 ish here in Seattle) Thanks, I thought it was a little subpar but as long as the fans think it's good. Yeah, sorry about Neo being a wimp. I tried to make it more realistic this time and it failed, so back to bloodthirsty killers on the next fight. Also, I was thinking maybe Cristatusaurus or Suchosaurus as well, because either way Suchomimus and Baryonyx are possibly rentering as alternate personalities XD Cristatusaurus measured about 34-36 feet and Suchosaurus about 30-33 so either would be good fits, really.

Bloodthirsty, also known as territorial. If I was the Neovenator, I wouldn't have put up with the Styracosaurus drinking from my pond. Basically, Neovenator deserves a rematch. Is that a possiblity for after you have finished season 3, to go over you mistakes and re write the battle?

They were great! It's hard to find pictures of little known dinosaurs like Neovenator and Styracosaurus

How is Styracosaurus little known? It is a common dinosaur for the people who know a bit about dinosaurs.

Yeah, but it's pretty unknown for the general public. There were a couple of pics, but not too many really good ones.

Yeah, but it's overshadowed by Triceratops literally and figuratively. Paleoartists tend to focus on newer and more "interesting" ceratopsians like Torosaurus, Xenoceratops, Eotriceratops and others.

Just like howl they focus so much research on learning more another everyone's favorite dinosaur t rex. What about Sinosauropteryx, it has even better preserved fossils, and Sinornithosaurus, and Sinorthoides? They only focus on the well know dinosaurs. Hmp

Hey, let's not drag Tyrannosaurus into this. He's my favorite after all(not because of the general public reasoning, scientific reasoning).

I only brought him up because he is always being used to learn more. There are other dinosaurs that could be just as useful, but they are very little known, and won't have much impact on the general public. I really want to see the Carcharadontosaur skull Spyrannosaurus brought up.

I'm surprised there isn't more Giganotosaurus art. Giganotosaurus was getting great publicity from the late 90's to 2000 as the dinosaur that was bigger than T. rex, the sauropod slayer, the speedy giant and many other titles but as soon as Jurassic Park 3 came out he got overshadowed by Spino and has been almost completely forgotten by the general public. Sad, really.

When a Giganotosaurus, or some Carcharadontosaur that is 50+ feet Lon and over 10 tons, is found, then everybody should, really know about it.

I think F. Rex and C. Rex are owned by Jack Horner's ex-wife Celeste, whom C. Rex was named after.

Awesome fight, I'd give it an A-. Excellent writing and good files but Delta's right, the Neovenator was being a bit wimpy. Realism is boring, make them fight like there's no tomorrow!
