MemberOvomorphAug-31-2013 9:20 PMI think this is an important question. How realistic would it be to say there is life on other planets. Not just in the context of inteligent life, but life in general eg plants, bugs, mammals that sort of thing.
It seems to me that with the right ingredience life can generate. I believe that those ingredience are everywhere in the universe. So why wouldn't there be life through out the galaxy.

I have taken a long close hard look at this question for a hell of a long time. There is a mathematical answer which is based on the concept of infinity plus one. That’s the simplified version. If the universe is infinite, then the possibility of life, wherever it may occur must allow mathematically by default through the definition of infinity the the probability of life. After all life on earth is just an example of this. To deny the probability of other forms of life beyond human reasoning, I feel is arrogant. I do believe we are not alone in the universe.

Veteran MemberMemberOvomorphSep-01-2013 12:33 PMWell these days most people kind of expect there is other life out there. But I think part of it is just wishful thinking cause the implications and seriousness of our world being the only one with life is a harsh responsibility. Who wants to be responsible? and live in harmony with Nature. If spamspermia is a reality however I think life descended from the Garden there might be branches tracing back but impossible to reach. Looking out is the past Looking inward is the future @8 If angels can fall from grace then we can not ever be better then monkeys right? One of my favorite movie quotes is from Solaris where one of the scientists on the Space Station, (Gibirian) records a message where he says " Humanity is arrogant and naive, we don't want to find other worlds. We want mirrors". Though I will say....In respects to the Muslim holy book the Quran. Or should I say Allah said through his messanger Muhammad to the people through the Quran almost 1500 years ago that he (Allah) has created beings/entities through out the universes. Scholars from the true Sunni/non fundamentalist sects say that cause we have no direct evidence of life out side of the earth...YET! It is to be understood of meaning that these created beings as before Adam such as Angels, Jinn and Ruhan. Reference Surah/chapter of Destiny and Descending Star/s

AdminPraetorianSep-01-2013 1:42 PMJust yesterday Scientists claimed that there was and still is life on Mars. Life on Mars? It could be on Earth.
Their theory has something to do with the chemical element Molybdenum, which would not have been available on Earth some 3.6 billion years ago when life is believed to have first appeared.
"It’s only when molybdenum becomes highly oxidized that it is able to influence how early life formed," Benner said in a statement. "This form of molybdenum couldn’t have been available on Earth at the time life first began, because 3 billion years ago, the surface of the Earth had very little oxygen, but Mars did. It’s yet another piece of evidence which makes it more likely life came to Earth on a Martian meteorite, rather than starting on this planet."

MemberOvomorphSep-01-2013 5:58 PMthe universe is so large, it is mathematically improbable for there not to be other life. not to mention we are only talking about life as we know it, there could be other kinds of life that form from different ingredients and different condition, maybe life forms we cant even perceive, this makes the chances even higher. not only do scientists think there might be life on mars, i am pretty sure its now probable that there is life on Europa, underwater life that does not require a sun, witch means now any ice planet that has its own thermal heat could possibly have life, so if you don't even need a sun that raises the chances even higher lol

MemberOvomorphSep-02-2013 3:54 AMI watched a doco not so long ago. It was saying that when a planet goes around its orbit, at a certain point it the planet compresses a little. It stated that encelades(moon of jupiter) compresses up to 450 feet. Because of this compression heat is generated. It was suggested that this heat could increase the temperature under the ice, which could help life generate it self. They showed a thermal picture of encelades. In this picture it showed marks on the side of the moon where the ice was at it thinest. They called these marks the tiger stripes ( well thats what they looked like). you could clearly see that it was warmer at these points.

MemberDeaconSep-02-2013 8:47 AMYou only need a certain conditions and chemicals for life to start.
By that basic kinds of life, where there is water even frozen then there is a great chance of life.
As far as micro organisms go, i would not be surprised if they are more abundant in our solar system than we believe.
For basic life there has to be many potential worlds in our Galaxy, which is so vast. while there is no concrete proof it would be near enough for certain that at a micro biotic level life would exist elsewhere in our Galaxy yet alone the Universe and it would not surprise me if its vastly more common than we could hope to think.
But for life to Evolve and Advance then the Moons and Planets would need extra help and need to fit certain criteria. For example its not only having a ideal class of Star like our Sun... or the basic building blocks of right chemicals and water.
But the size of the Planet and Moon, the distance from Sun/Star and the position of other space bodies that would affect how life would develop..
By that if we had 2 moons, that could have affected how life evolves, if we had no moons that could drastically effect it and if we was too close or too far from the Sun then life as we know it would not happen.
Planets need to be the right size, of which Earth and Mars are ideal, they have to be in the right comfort zone in which Earth and Mars are and they would have to have a satellite of right orbit and size of which Earth has.
When planets need to fall into this criteria it really limits the numbers even more...
But latest Space Telescopic has detected far more suitable planets that fit into the category of being around the right kind of sun, the right distance and size and having ideal satellites. And this number is far greater than they expected.
Now its if these worlds/moons have the right chemical balance and water and if they do then the chances of having more than basic single cell organisms is far greater.

MemberOvomorphSep-09-2013 11:12 AMOf course there could be life on other planets, including all the diversity we have on our own world. There is strong evidence that intelligent life, aka as aliens, have already been here, and that they are still playing a big role in our lives.

MemberOvomorphSep-10-2013 2:58 AMWell this is another unfortunate omission from the original script in which a worm is found and celebrated as a great find and a first for man kind. Its this kind of worm (sadly a standard wood worm found on Earth) which is morphed via the black goo and evolves into a large snake like worm as we saw in Prometheus. I found this very disappointing in both theatrical and blueray release as it could and should have held great importance.
