Welcome, ladies and gentleman, to my daily DinoFight. I always appreciate my loyal readers, but for those of you who are new, every day I pit two of the most formidable dinosaurs to ever exist against one another in a fight to the death (most of the time). Medium division, round 1, fight 13: Afrovenator vs Therizinosaurus InGen File: Afrovenator [img]http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs36/i/2008/270/f/9/Afrovenator_by_NTamura.jpg[/img] Code Name: None Danger Level: Extremely dangerous Height: 11 feet Length: 30 feet Weight: 3 tons Speed: 35 mph Diet: Various herbivores Weapons: Bite, speed, claws Description: Afrovenator is a carnivorous theropod of site B. Being a megalosaur it is very aggressive and short tempered as well as furiously territorial. They may live in small packs of up to five members or be solitary depending on hunting skill because less talented hunters tend to want to group together and older and far more experienced hunters may join the pack just to make hunting easier for themselves. Afrovenator live in the forests of Isla Sorna near the beaches and they compete with the forest dwelling Carcharodontosaurus saharicus for territory and while they usually lose direct fights they can outrun the giant and take medium sized prey with far greater efficiency. They tend to prey on hadrosaurs and small sauropods but they can and occasionally do take other prey. They are known man eaters with several human skulls having been found in their nests and territories before. Like other megalosaurs they line their territories with skulls and skeletons of their most impressive prey to intimidate potential competition and this makes it easy to judge the potential danger of the individual before attempted capture. The largest verifiable skeleton found in an Afrovenator's territory belonged to an Eocarcharia. Dr. Wu has stated that cloning is possible in the future because DNA samples have been obtained but a paddock has not been created nor planned for them as of 2012. InGen File: Therizinosaurus [img]http://blowingoutlanterns.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/Nothronychus.jpg[/img] Code Name: Claws Danger Level: Harmless unless provoked Height: 19 feet Length: 38 feet Weight: 6 tons Speed: 25 mph Diet: Unknown Weapons: Claws, size Description: Therizinosaurus is a large theropod that exists solely on Isla Sorna. It is one of the tallest theropods but is relatively short in length. It has a short and thick tail as well as a barrel-like body with a long neck and small head. Their arms are very long, up to 11.5 feet in the largest specimens, and their claws are the longest known to have existed at over three feet long. They also have relatively stocky and inflexible legs with short claws. Two "species" of Therizinosaurus existed. The first, a carnivorous, cold blooded scaly version, was cloned as an unknown species in 1985 by InGen and much of its missing DNA was filled with that of a Water Monitor lizard. This species had a shorter neck than the other, was slower, had shorter and more curved claws, a longer tail and had a lizard-like head with curved serrated teeth. It preyed on small animals like Stygimoloch when being observed after escaping and was only kept on Isla Sorna because of its strange and "unfriendly" appearance. This Therizinosaurus species was fond of water because of its Water Monitor mutation. All but one died in 1993 when a Tyrannosaurus escaped and killed them before being recaptured. The other species was created in 1995 from remains with more DNA preserved and a more complete animal was created. This Therizinosaurus is feathered and has a beak rather than a lizard-like head. It is very similar in color to the Himalayan Monal pheasant and the males of the species even have the same head plumes. In 2010 one worker's son remarked that one of them in a photograph looked like Kevin from the disney film Up so when the male (along with three females) is created and put on display in 2015 he will be named "Kevin". FIGHT! The sun is up on Isla Sorna and a male Therizinosaurus is waking. He shakes the dew from his coat and begins walking through the foggy forest after a quick grooming. He smells some fruit nearby and begins walking towards the smell. He eventually sees the outline of an enormous hulking shape in the fog and slowly approaches it. He sees a number of buildings and cars around it and two large apartment complexes with people around them. Shocked at the sight of the giant some off duty workers pull out their guides and look at them, seeing if the large creature is safe to approach unarmed. A guard walks towards it and it backs up a bit. The Therizinosaurus walks around her towards the fruity smell and sees a container of berries through an open doorway and picks up his pace as he heads towards them and he cranes his long neck through the doorway. He eagerly eats from the fruit and pulls his whole body into the corridor before eating more. The giant herbivore eats until he's content and then begins to explore the strange place he's in. He rounds a corner and smells an awful foul odor and investigates. The room the smell comes from is closed but he looks through the window and sees a bunch of meat hanging from hooks. He perceives it as a carnivore's habitat and continues on his way. A few scientists stand with shocked expressions and whisper to each other when he passes a room. One opens a drawer but another stops him and she shows him a book with a picture of the Therizinosaurus before whispering again to him about its lack of danger. The two argue as the giant explores. Then the sirens go off and people scream. An Afrovenator, having smelled the herbivore and meat in the freezer, has wandered into the area. The Therizinosaurus tries to escape the noise of the blaring alarms and runs back the way it came and sees an Afrovenator trying to bust into the meat locker. The carnivore stops when it sees the herbivore and shifts its attention. The Afrovenator itself is only inches away from the ceiling and he notices the Therizinosaurus, being even bigger, has to crouch down and is probably not very mobile in a place like this and has an exposed neck. With a roar the Afrovenator runs towards the Therizinosaurus, his tail snacking the walls. The Therizinosaurus tries to rear up but finds its head has hit the ceiling. The Afrovenator takes advantage of the herbivorous theropod's dilemma and bites its arm and tears back on it. The Therizinosaurus smacks the megalosaur in the face and knocks it off of his arm and heads down the hallway. The faster and far more agile Afrovenator easily catches up after getting back to his feet. The Afrovenator's swishing tail knocks out several windows before he finally gets his jaws around the Therizinosaurus' tail. Biting down with full force the Afrovenator tears through feather, skin, muscle and bone while the Therizinosaurus tries to turn around. After a few moments the Therizinosaurus has gotten the Afrovenator within reach and smashes its curved claws down on the megalosaur's shoulder, breaking it and causing a horrendous wound. The Afrovenator lets out a high pitched roar of pain but it is cut short when the Therizinosaurus smacks its hand into the Afrovenator's skull, knocking it unconscious. Only lightly wounded, the Therizinosaurus moves down the hall further and heads right where the hallway splits in an attempt to escape. Several employees run from the dinosaur while a janitor who has his back turned mops the floor and listens to his music, unaware of the scene behind him. Suddenly the megalosaur awakes and groggily shakes his head. He looks at the trail of blood and follows it down several turns in the building before it cuts off at a gate. The gate, however, was left open in a trainer's frantic escape. A sudden mouthwatering smell overcomes the Afrovenator. He shakes the blood from his eyes and looks at the scene before him. Juvenile stegosaurs, ceratopsians, hadrosaurs and sauropods are among the many herbivores that are being raised here. The Afrovenator runs over to a Stygimoloch and kicks it over before picking it up by its spike covered head with his jaws. Having never seen one before the Afrovenator can't figure out why it's head is so hard and drops it, trying to figure out how to eat it. Its herd comes over and bravely defends it from the giant that looms over them. If the Afrovenator could laugh at the tiny herbivores ramming its feet it would but it stops its amusement when a greater weight slams into him. A Dacentrurus whips its tail into his leg and a Brachiosaurus hip bumps him. He roars at the two and kicks over the Dacentrurus. The Brachiosaurus bugles loudly and several other herbivores come over but none of them are quite a match for the Afrovenator. Seeing his intended target, the Therizinosaurus, drinking from a pool he leaps on the Brachiosaurus, tipping it over and scares the smaller animals away with a roar and charges the Therizinosaurus. Seeing his foe's reflection the Therizinosaurus swings around and smacks at the Afrovenator but the carnivore uses its amazing reflexes to dodge the threat and tackle the Therizinosaurus into a palm tree. Sunlight shines down on them as the fog clears and the Therizinosaurus digs its claws into the Afrovenator's back. The Therizinosaurus bites the Afrovenator with its beak as the alarm finally quits ringing. The Therizinosaurus finally smacks the Afrovenator off of it and stands on the carnivore and applies pressure, starting to crush it, when a dart hits the herbivore. Immediately drowsy the confused the theropod falls and nearly crushes an Ankylosaurus when it blacks out. InGen staff run through and inject the Afrovenator with a tranquilizing serum as well before checking it's vital signs. "Airlift!" shouts the doctor. "We need to airlift it to Nublar if it's going to survive!" The others follow her orders and emergency call a helicopter while restraining the two outsiders and capturing any young herbivores that escaped. "How's the Brachiosaurus, Jen?" the doctor asks her assistant. "Fine. It isn't big enough yet to get damaged much by a fall. Probably just got the wind knocked out of it." "The others?" "All fine, just a little scared." "Man. That could have been bad. I told Hammond we should have just cleared site A and built training facilities on it instead of reusing these ones." "Probably just a freak accide-" "Freak accident? With hundreds, if not thousands of dinosaurs wandering around this island every second of every day this is bound to happen again. We need to up security and set strict rules to avoid this. These were small dinosaurs, Jennifer. This facility is less than a mile away from the beach where the largest carnivore ever to walk the planet lives. We're right on the edge of a jungle where numerous species of pack hunting giants over 10 tons live. At any second a T. rex or an Ekrixinatosaurus could walk out of that jungle for a snack and guess what? We couldn't do anything about it. You think tranquilizers will stop an 8 plus ton armored giant like Ekrixinatosaurus that destroys things for fun and is known to take over fifteen Tyrannosaurus tranks and not care? Do you think we can take an adult Tyrannosaurus with the two guards armed with Compy tranquilizers here? No. We're so screwed if anything bigger than these two comes walking into one of these buildings for a snack." "...I'm sorry." "Sorry, it's not your fault. No matter how much security we have and no matter the precautions we take we're at risk. I just think we could do a better job than this.", Dr. Ward says with a sigh as the helicopters arrive. WINNER: THERIZINOSAURUS [img]http://www.wikidino.com/wp-content/uploads/Therizinosaurus-dkimages.jpg[/img] It was just too big. Once it got free of the buildings restraining size it could use its full power and size to overwhelm the megalosaur, an opponent that is not to be underestimated itself. Therizinosaurus is honestly a borderline large dinosaur alongside Suchomimus but it could pass as medium, where it has successfully passed into the second round. NEXT FIGHT: DINOBRAWL II Appalachiosaurus- The six crested 30 foot tyrannosaur known from Alabama [img]http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2011/312/b/7/appalachiosaurus_by_hodarinundu-d4fkifh.jpg[/img] Gryposuchus- The largest gavial ever to live at over 33 feet [img]http://misteriosdomundo.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Gryposuchus-croizati.jpg[/img] Siamotyrannus- The allosaur with a name fitting a tyrannosaur, this sinraptoroid grew over 25 feet [img]http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2012/137/6/0/siamotyrannus_in_repose_by_sharkeytrike-d502n2a.jpg[/img] Eustreptospondylus- This 30 foot allosaur may have had a swimming ability and inhabited islands [img]http://0.tqn.com/d/dinosaurs/1/0/R/Q/-/-/eustreptospondylus.jpg[/img] Aerosteon- One of the last true allosaurs, this speedy 30 foot dinosaur had hollow bones with a very advanced respiratory system [img]http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs37/i/2008/280/0/7/Aerosteon_by_NTamura.jpg[/img] Nothronychus- This "sloth claw" was a herbivorous theropod that grew to about 20 feet long. It had long curved claws like those of a sloth. Nice! It has a new setting, some interaction with and between people, a display of InGen capturing dinosaurs and foreshadowing of the 2015 park. Awesome.

Not at all :D I really liked the megalosaurs keeping skeletons around their territories part in the description. Also, when is the Dinobrawl 2 being posted?

Great job. I really loved how the dinosaurs mangled with the people. So you had a bad night too, at least I'm not the only one who can't sleep.

Nice. I was pleasantly surprised to see Therizinosaurus win. Glad to see you took my suggestion of using Aerosteon and Nothronychus. Thanks. PS- Ha, you used the same pic of Eustreptospondylus I used for my site. Cool.
