The Top 5 Most Famous Dinosaurs- 5. Stegosaurus- 23+ ft, 2-3 tons This dinosaur is one of the most famous of all time thanks to it's plates and spiked tail 4. Apatosaurus- 65 ft long, 25-30 tons While many don't know Apatosaurus, they do know Brontosaurus, which is the same animal. 3. Pteranodon- 23-30 ft wingspan, 50-60 lbs While not a dino, many think of Pteranodon when they think of dinosaurs. Most think of the name pterodactyl, but they have the image of Pteranodon. 2. Triceratops- 25+ ft long, 5-6 tons With it's three horns and large frill, Triceratops is one of the most recognizable and famous dinosaurs ever. 1. Tyrannosaurus rex- Averaged 43-46 ft long and 7-8 tons, could reach 50 ft and 9+ tons though. T-rex is without a doubt, the most famous dinosaur ever. It's so famous, it has been named the king of dinosaurs. Honorable mentions- Spinosaurus- 56 ft long, 5-7 tons Well known to many dinosaur fans, Spino is still not quite as well known to the general public, although it is gaining popularity. Velociraptor- 6 ft long, 100 lbs Very famous dinosaur, just did not quite make the top 5. Probably number 6 or 7. Spino and Veloci are in the same range on the list. Brachiosaurus- 83 ft long, 50 tons Famous dinosaur, but not much of a difference between it and Brontosaurus/Apatosaurus to the general public. Allosaurus- 33+ ft long, 3.5 tons Like Spino, Allo is a pretty famous dinosaur that is gaining popularity. This is my top 5. All size estimates are based off of MY theories and estimates. It's not about size or which dinosaur is better. Purely a rough top 5 for the most famous dinosaurs. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all. Thanks Guys

Actually, Rex was named Tyrant Lizard King because it was the largest carnivorous dinosaur ever discovered back in the late 1800's/early 1900's. I think it was 1896 when Edward Drinker Cope discovered Rex. Pretty good list for fame. I would have had Velo on the list instead of either Stegosaurus or pteranodon.

I was debating on which to put, Raptor or Stego. I know how T-rex go his name and who discovered him, I just mean that Tyrannosaurus has upheld his reputation as the king of dinosaurs, in MY opinion. Sorry about the caps, I just want to point out to any people out there who disagree with me, that it's what I think, not what I think everyone else should think.

What I meant was, it was named King of the Dinosaurs before it became popular/famous. I also agree that T-Rex is and always will be the King.

As your little quote at the bottom says, haha. One reason for Tyrannosaurus' fame is it's rivalry with Triceratops. The unstoppable force just met the immovable object.

I actually agree with that list, I don't think many people knew what the velociraptors were until after the jp movies came out. They'd probably be in the top 10 famous dinosaurs list for me, but I agree with the top 5 you have listed here.

That's what I was thinking t-rex90. Many did not know the raptors that well until JP.

The Utahraptor would've been a good choice too! Like a velociraptor except scaled up to an average length of 23 feet!

I don't think a lot of people have heard of Utahraptor. Sure it's big, just not that famous.

Yeah, more of an honorable mention than a famous dinosaur.
