Like I promised, here is the Why T-Rex is Better follow-up. Spinosaurus had the size advantage over T-Rex. It's sail could have been used for intimidation, so it could have relayed heavily on intimidation to protect itself. If it did get in a fight though, it's massive arms would most likely be it's go-to weapon. The ability to swim is also pretty cool. I expect a few more Spino fans to reply to this discussion. Just add anything I missed, correct any errors, and enjoy the debate.

Spino had teeth designed for gripping, not tearing or crushing. This would have been perfect against smaller adversaries, but it's less than powerful jaws and gripping teeth would have done little against something large. I ain't gonna say anything about the size issue because we all know what I would say. Spino is big nonetheless. Like you said, it's foot and a half long claws and long arms would have been it's primary weapon. I was just talking what it had over Rex, so I did not mention any disadvantages (just to clear things up for any newcomers).

Sorry, I was not downgrading Spinosaurus. Just stating facts about him ;)

Spinosaurus had crocodile jaws. Suchomimus and Baryonyx, along with most of the other Spinosaurs had gharial jaws. The jaws of Spinosaurus were much more robust, and the jaws were powerful at closing, but had weak opening muscles. I think Bronrosaurus>apatosaurus said something about it.

I know, this is just mainly advantages. If anyone wants, I could make a disadvantage discussion too.

i think Spinosaurus's claws were more like 2 1/2 feet long.

The jaws weren't quite as robust as a T-Rex's jaws, but as far Spinosaurs jaws go, they were powerful. So I had a point when I said the muscles may have been weak for opening the jaws.

As far as claw length goes, that's really dependent on your estimate for the whole animal and I don't want to get into that again, lol

Notice that Spino's jaws are crocodile-like, while the others are very thin and gharial-like.

It has pretty much been established that the claws are huge. Let's call them 2 feet so that it is in the middle.

Brontosaurus>Apatosaurus

I think Spino had a few advantages: claws, arm strength, probably size, skull length, intimidation, endurance and flexibility. Its powerful arms could deliver gruesome slashes with the aid of its powerful arms, it seems MOSTLY agreed upon that it was longer and heavier, it had a longer skull, giving it a reach advantage. The sail, if intact, could be used for intimidating rivals by making it look bigger or for thermoregulation, allowing it to not tire as fast as most dinosaurs. Also being built long and not as robust as, say, Acrocanthosaurus, it would be able to move its neck around with wider range and, being that its spines were spaced apart, turn to the side without hurting itself. Its spines were probably frequently broken, and it wouldn't have been in much pain when they broke, since the sail was thin membrane and the spines didn't have nerves.

Perhaps, but I don't think it wanted to break it's sail. It would certainly been more agile than Acro, but that sail would have inhibited it a little bit. It may have been able to run fast, 20 or so miles per hour, in a straight line, but may have had trouble turning. If Spino was in a fight, I see it turning to it's side to make it look bigger using it's sail. Kind of like a dog when it's hair stands on end.

Possibly.

Just a thought. One way it could have used it's sail at least.

If anyone wants, I could do a discussion anything that could effect how a T-Rex/Spino fight could go.
