Of course everyone knows about T-rex, but what about it's cousins? They were fearsome too and deserve some attention. Albertosaurus- 26 ft long, 2 tons, 30+ miles per hour One of the fastest tyrannosaurs compared to body size Daspletosaurus- 33 ft long, 3.5 tons, 20 miles per hour A slightly older relative of it's larger cousin T-rex Gorgosaurus- 30 ft long, 3 tons, 25 miles per hour Gorgosaurus was a tyrannosaur that lived along side Daspletosaurus Yutyrannus- 25 ft long, 2 tons, 30 miles per hour Largest animal known to have feathers Tyrannosaurus rex- 46+ ft long, 8+ tons Largest member of the tyrannosaurs and possibly the largest land carnivore Of course there are numerous others, but these are a few. Any others you guys feel are worth mentioning?

FACT DUDE

trex isnt possibly the largest land carnivore, there is no POSSIBLY to it. Spinosaurus, gigannotosaurus, and charcarodontosaurus were all bigger than trex
What you call discovery, i call the rape of the natural world.

Don't even get me started alright? It's all theories! T-rex is still in the running for it. Hear me out. T-rex appeared between 68 and 70 million years ago and lived from Canada to as far south as Texas. We have less than 40 skeletons. That is a tiny fraction of the number of rexes that lived in that massive area for 3-5 mya. There very well may have been Tyrannosaurs bigger than Spino, Giga, or Car. It's all speculation!

Spinosaurus Rex

MemberCompsognathusJun-01-2013 11:50 AM
they all seem to be close to the same size, and thats 40 skeletons, Theres only been 1 spinosaurus found and it was 60 feet it length. Maybe a coincedence, but extrememly unlikely

There have been more than just one Spino skeleton found. You complain about us using outdated info, than you say there has only been one Spino fossil found. It isn't the 1940's anymore. Everything scientists know about Spino for size and diet, was based on the size of one of the Spino's bones, to the same bone on Baryonx (think I spelled it right). The diet was based on the discovery of fish scales in one's stomach area.

I know. I'm not sayin Spino could have been bigger, but there is a chance it was not. Besides, this post was not a discussion about which dino was bigger, it's about the family of tyrannosaurs and what they were like.

I think Guanlong would be worth mentioning because it was the only Tyrannosaur to live in the Jurassic.

True, and it had that crazy crest.

That, and Guanlong kind of opened the gateway to large carnivorous therapods. This early Jurassic animal was a huge resemblence to the Ceolophysis, but it had a Monolophosaurus like crest, and fed on other Guanlongs and smaller dinosaurs. Nice point mrhappy!
