Children of Dune and the secrets behind Prometheus plots

Hello friends from outter space, I was thinking of how there could be a connection between the storyline of the book Dune from Frank Herbert (especially the book "children of dune") and the new ideas that Ridley Scott tries to push forward in Prometheus to expand the universe that he begins in Alien... but was in fact mostly a re-use of talents and concepts art for what should have been the vision from Jodorowsky movie Dune... But never was. I feel that there is still a thematic legacy along these stories : Dune/Alien/Prometheus, some kind of good SF ADN that Ridley could use to make Prometheus 2 even better than the first prequel ! Evolution and the use of alien organism to become God ! So now I will try to explain the similitudes I see between Prometheus and Children of Dune, at least the one that haven't been already discussed here. Desert and worm. In the book Children of Dune we follow the destiny of Leto II Atréides who will become the God emperor. His power comes from his hybridation with an alien organism : the sand trouts. The sand trouts live under the desert and absorb any traces of water. they are the first step in evolution of what will grow as giant sand worms. During Leto II's journey in the desert, the sand trouts fixed to his body filled with spice and finally create an organic suit all over him. Then he's no more human and will continue to transform until becoming a worm !!! I think that there could be the same idea that goes through Prometheus movie. "Big things have small beginning" - Worms in contact with the black goo evolve in hammerpedes with acidic blood - small organism we see in Holloway's eye after he gets infest by the black goo that leads to Shaw giving birth to the trilobite ; trilobite impregnate engineer then we have the deacon ! Is there a small organism like a microscopic worm who is contain in the urn, and in contact with the mutagen gets his full evolution form that lead to the xenomorph ??? It could be a totally a false and stupid theory (only pleasure of crazy speculation !) but if the worm are treated like god in the story of Dune, and Dune being a source of inspiration for Giger and Ridley in creating the first Alien... maybe the little worms are what the engineer was harvesting ??? Ok that sounds ridiculous... I know, don't blame me for this :) Some basic alien ADN tool to become stronger and to try to find a way to evolve... We see that the black goo killed all the crew of engineers that was in the pyramid. Why ? Because engineers went on the far end of their capacity of natural evolution. The black goo can't operate on their ADN to create mutation that will step their evolution forward, so they die. So maybe they find a parasite like Leto II in Children of Dune, and they hybrided their body with it in the purposed to become nearly immortal beings. Ok, now I have no time left to go deeper in this parrallel between Dune and Prometheus. (but we could make a list of topic in commons : science, religion, despotism, etc...) But I love these stories so much and spend so much time here reading good theories that it will make my day if some of you find a little worth to pursue this tread ! I want to read your thoughts about Prometheus, Dune and worms !

The Dune books are fantastic and there are definitely some parallels. In terms of,art direction, I think the Giger dome was more a sort of " this has never been used, its awesome and the fans will love it " sort of thing, rather than a Dune reference, given that particular film was never made. But the Sand Trout thing, I had forgotten about that. The suit the last Engineer was wearing looked more, well, engineered than the result of random organisms fusing to the body, but I do believe its a living thing, and enhances the Engineers vitality. But does it make him immortal? Apparently, in the "Engineer speaks" clip when David explains Weyland's desire for immortality the Engineers response translates to: "Why?". The feel I get from that is he knows too well the nightmare of eternal life, or at least its pursuit. Leto wasnt necessarily pursuing Godhood but in Prometheus Weyland seems only the most recent in a long line to be doing so.

Amazing story I never really got a chance to read the Dune series just the movie and its remake on Scy-Fy Channel. I love the original Dune movie with all its cool and unique alien races. The microphone translater for that weird alien was strange sounding. Father,...The Sleeper Has Been Awakened!!!!!!!!!!!

The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

"I want more life, fucker." Tyrell Corporation got THAT CLOSE to Weyland Industries. Same narrative driving force, if you think about it. But I do recommend CHILDREN OF DUNE to all readers. Dune, Dune Messiah and Children of Dune ... what an arc. In fact, the whole Dune collection, even Chapterhouse Dune. For me, the best illustration of Eternal Life is from Marvin the Paranoid Android who lives right up to the event in the Restaurant At The End of the Universe by Douglas Adams, "Life, don't talk to me about 'life' ". Crackin'
2013 sci-fi horror novels 'Custodian' and 'Tandem' available from Amazon, B&N, iTunes etc...

Ridley was interviewed to direct the original DUNE however he had serious creative differences with Herbert and the producers so Lynch was chosen to direct from his screenplay. Herbert wasn't happy with the result regardless.

Herbert was such a Genius to create a fantasy world so "true". I know that Ridley was asked to direct the original Dune but he was on Blade Runner at that time, am I right ? Maybe Ridley see in Prometheus the chance to see a bigger scifi world that original Alien franchise was, and in this purposed he will take some ideas from Herbert to settle a dark fantasy... the total opposite from Avatar. By the way David Lynch Dune isn't a bad movie but he fails to give the ambition of the original plot... So... are the worms the origin of evil xenomorph ??? Thanks a lot for your reactions on this topic. ;)

From what I've read Riley wanted to explore an incestual relationship between Paul and his mother. Herbert and Lynch nixed the idea and went down another path.
