in the spirit of fairness, as I've been 'a little critical' from time to time, I'd be keen to hear from you'all (the human members of this dynamic and creative forum) how Ridley and his team can avoid mirroring Stargate i.e. fundamental alien influence on human evolution, in its forthcoming parallel universe that started with the Prometheus film. What are your hopes and wishes for a Black Goo-fueled future, and by this I mean something that might not have already been covered in this future superthread? :)

I hope this is not some kind of marketing to the recent troll comment in that thread :p

I know not of what you speak, this is a NEW THREAD for those who might wanna explore THE FUTURE of their franchise. Safe word, "Fifield," for those who are afraid to stroke the hammerpede of futurethink. :)

Yeah, cool, but what'd make it 'better' than Stargate? What 'sets it apart'?

Yes the franchise will be better. I only vaguely remember Stargate but I see the parallels in premise, but for me that's where the similarities end. The concepts that drive both stories have driven many others as well and have been around for a long time. We already have a much more elegant, sinister and otherworldly vision from RS, and a far more artful depiction. His universe is dark and surreal. I don't think he's saying all intelligent extraterrestrial life is humanoid, just the guys who made us. The connections to Earth and its history are more of a format, a way to start the story, rather than the point of the whole thing. Also I think his message about our origins and the why of it will be bleak, if not apocalyptic. I don't see Prometheus as so much being about humankind, but rather about the dangers of manipulating biology, the creation of life, and things that should not exist, and not just what such power might unleash, but what it would do to the power itself.

Will we be witness to FAILED INCURSIONS into Earth's biosphere back in Dinosaur Times in forthcoming issues of the Prometheus saga? I mean, it's never really been resolved when the FIRST MOTHER SHIP landed and left Mr Ritual Suicide to spill his seed all over that waterfall.

True, it could be antwhen, and anywhere. It might no even be what we think it is ( seeding). I'd like to see another flashback prologue in part 2. I'll bet we get one.

The biggest problem with the Stargate franchise was that the studios sold it into TV serialization which cheapened it to death. As long as that never happens with the Prometheus - Alien franchise then it will never become the pedestrian overdone phenomena than Stargate became. Now if you are also asking what people would like to see happen in future P/A movies, that has been covered in other threads.

IMO the story should not include too many expeditions and soldiers, they should focus on Shaw and David. There may be a parallel story, but not Aliens style. The sequel still has the possibility of being a movie monsters, but not necessarily the classic monsters. The android David may have a more antagonistic role than what we saw in Prometheus, coupled with the unpredictable technology engineers. Although I todabia I have the hope of seeing a creature completely biomechanics (no suits) which is why I've been pensadon the creator of Engineers or at least in a war of factions.

Stargate was my first sci-fi that I really got into when I was like ten years old when the REAL Stargate came out. Not that weird rehash of having the Goa'uld being nothing more that snake fishes.

The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

The potential is, the Goauld are eternal, like the Black Goo is eternal. Though I hate the question, "Which came first, the Black Goo or the Xenos." as I think THEY'RE THE SAME THING an eternal 'perfect organism' that has physiognomic influence on future races. I was reading THE SILMARILLION recently and it has this 'characters in the background' who don't necessarily MANIFEST themselves into 'physical form' on our world but still have a hold over it and can destroy it as they see fit. Silmarillion is a much more 'fantastical' book than the Lord of the Rings books because there's 'active transformation' forwards and backwards across the legendary realms of 'spirit' or 'soul' or 'everlasting' and mortal; Human, Elf, Dwarf or Orc. It's a real eye-opener, for me.

I think Prometheus could do very well as a TV series, and I've proposed this before. Frankly, in the movies, you end up with everything being rushed. In Prometheus, this is seen in almost every scene, a couple very outstanding examples being with how David rushes into everything like he doesn't tell the scientists what the writing on the wall means when they ask him to. That was terrible in my opinion, and another example is the way they have the engineer just attack all of a sudden at the end. It seemed like they needed to pace it like that to give the movie a climax or the audience would feel like they were given nothing.
