I know we all love RIdley Scott's directing genius and he's made some cracking films in his time. But WHAT IF someone with limitless funds offered to REBOOT the whole pre-alien franchise (it's all the rage, right now, so why not?). And I don't necessarily mean with Scott or Lindelof or Spaight on board. I'm talking about THE ORIGINAL PREMISE for the Alien Prequel, as it was always known to be, and not something that stinks of Stargate or some other 'aliens interfering with the Human Geneline'. Offered the proverbial 'carte blanche' - what are your thoughts on a total Prometheus Reboot? Where would you have liked a prequel to RIdley's 1979 flim ALIEN to have gone? :)

Exactly where it went with "Prometheus" and where it is hopefully going with "Paradise". I really cannot think of anything better. Could you expand on "The original premise...as it was always known to be"? What exactly is that supposed to be, if I may ask? If anything, I'd like to see a directors cut of Prometheus with all those lovely deleted/alternative/extended scenes put back in. But that's just my opinion.

@Custodian: You're saying: "I know we all love..." But comparing "Prometheus" with something "stinking of Stargate" doesn't sound much like you do. ..and then "rage", what rage?

Watching Alien and seeing the dead SJ's ripped stomach pretty much explained itself. Because id heard about the ways of the Xenomorph (from everyone) and i thought the SJ's just been in the wrong place at the wrong time, touching the wrong stuff, therefore cursing everyone who comes into contact afterwards. Therefore a prequel wasn't necessarily a must-have but im glad Prometheus and the Engineers were created. Hopefully David and Shaw go to LV426, and check the recordings, and see what actually happened. Its not quite the same, but i have this opinion about the Narnia books being made into movies.... by Disney.... =/ Its like its been bubble wrapped and has a different soul, but as i said, not quite same =/ Think he meant Range* (fashionable at this particular time) not Rage

I'm with HAL 9000... I'm content with 'Prometheus'... I just hope Scott will consider a director's cut and not stick to his original thought that "the theatrical cut is the director's cut".

I agree with Hal as well. Although I probably wouldn't have had a problem with a john sphaits type of script on screen, I love where this went. Even through all the questions it raises(philosophically and production wise) it really made me love it and has garnered my extreme interest for the scifi genre. this seems to powerful to just reboot

@Membrane: I totally agree with you there. So yeah, let's team up mate! ;) Again, Scott went back to this genre and 'his' universe in an attempt to answer those questions we all had on our minds for decades, and as far as I'm concerned he delivered. We wanted to know who that 'Space Jockey' is, and I think we all have a better understanding about that now, although his personal fate still remains unexplained. So far... We wanted to know more about 'The Company' and its shady involvement in the happenings aboard the Nostromo. We most certainly do now. And this is just the beginning so what on earth would we need another reboot for? Just one more little thing... "unlimited Funds"? As in... S.R. Hadden from "Contact"? Seriously? @Custodian: I really would like to know what you were thinking when starting this thread! Honestly!

Oh, and one other thing concerning a director's cut... I look at 'Blade Runner' and 'Kingdom of Heaven' as two Scott movies that were greatly enhanced and benefited from one. The thing with those though, is I believe Scott was not entirely satisfied with the theatrical cut from the start, whereas, he seems to be with 'Prometheus'. Maybe it's just a little bit of stubbornness he's getting with old age. Then again, he's the acclaimed director, I'm just the fan. :-)

im not the least bit interested in a reboot. As others have said, id like to see a directors cut...nothing dramatically different from the theatrical cut. Id just like to see a few choice scenes reintegrated into the film (in fact, most of the deleted scenes were subpar and were deftly cut, imo). Im into this new story. Cant wait for its continuation. Also, i dont want our travelers to make any pitstops on LV 426. There is no need to go back there.

Joeeyyy- how ya doin? Custodian- done right, a film about the Ganesha Space Jockey would have been awesome, and terrifying, and probably not anything a major studio would be willing to throw hundreds of millions of dollars at. That thing has haunted and mystified me for decades, and I think the Engineer answer was actually quite clever, because it leaves room for interpretation. Are they the SJ? Are they not? It's brilliant, really, that they managed to not contaminate that hallowed ground while still taking us to the very center of it.  I respect that you didn't get what you wanted, I didn't actually get what I wanted either, I was just very happy with what I did get. This really is a great movie, and we're lucky to have it. People keep asking how Paradise will work with only 2 human characters, which is a good question. I think it could work, so long as we can give up the thrill of watching people die horribly. Although, the Engineers are sufficiently human. Better yet, they can take more abuse. I don't know, man, I think RS and co. knew what they were doing, for Prometheus, and any continuation if the story.

Major Noob, FINALLY somebody who 'gets' my original premise and the reason for making this thread. Admittedly, I think the one mistake was 'hacking Prometheus to bits' to squeeze it into a cinema slot -- the 'extended' i.e. proper version, would have rocked. But there's still that 'original premise' that Scott set himself, "Who was that big guy in the chair and what's his story?" What is that chair? He didn't at any point say, what's that pressure suit you need a pressure suit to get into. And that scene of the Derelict-resurrected shooting flames out it's ass? Really? That wasn't the shittest ending possible for what 'for me and others' was a warp-drive ship run from the Ganesha turret by a 5 METER BEING THAT COULD 'FOLD SPACE FROM IX' to pun another film. Etc.

technically i don't ever think we'll be able to see what our beloved "Lovecraftean" space jockey would look on screen since Scott changed the idea of the jockey from what we originally conceived it to be. actually the jockey looks much less "elephant" in aline than the suit does in Prometheus, in alien its more of a breathing apparatus that's a part of its head. about the origins of the space jockey in alien i would prefer it to be left a mystery, after all it was the mystery that made it special. But i would still love to see the original space jockey alive on screen some day

I've been meaning to take a closer look at that scene (Juggernaut lift off). I like to think that magenta streak is the equivalent of retinal burn, that there isn't actually a thruster trail happening there, just an optical one. Call me a dreamer, I can take it. King- I think there's plenty of room for a separate SJ race, and clues in Prometheus seem to hint at it. We all can bring our own interpretations to the table, I think that was the idea. But I agree that touching the SJ culture in real time on film is perhaps best left alone, and maybe RS thought so too. It worked in Alien because we didn't know, we were given enough information to let our imaginations fill in the dark, creepy blanks. What other Science Fiction story is held so dear, and so hotly debated? That's why answers are not necessarily desirable, not all of them anyway. Custodian, welcome Prometheus into your heart. It's calling you. Give it a damp, chilly corner. Where it can grow.

Just to make sure I’ve not been confused with any minor details that might be misinterpreted as facts. Prometheus did not happen on LV426, so any feelings regarding Prometheus are irrelevant. So the question is whether there is a story to be told about the big guy in the chair on LV426, and if it were possible to make a movie about it, what would it be? I think the big guy in the chair is an alien species nothing like the Engineers. It happened a long time ago in a universe far, far away. And Starbucks had’nt been invented. That’s where I would start. So far, so good or what? My originality knows no bounds. I would open up with a some small spacecraft chasing the Juggernaut towards LV426, but not firing anything.

In regards to king's last comment, you mention how it doesn't seem very elephantine anymore. Well, I think he isn't supposed too. I personally think it would have been a but cooler to have a thirty foot engineer in Prometheus( "call me a dreamer...") but Sir Ridley probably wanted them to seem closer to us than we would think our gods to be. Size is a good way to help people get that because of it being such an obvious physical feature. Plus, thirty foot sj's would be hard to make and look real enough for us. I know that probably isn't what ur necessarily thinking or anything. I just like saying that rant. I have said it several times on the site haha

@ cuponator Before Prometheus was released, there was quite a bit of info flying around that did lead me to believe that the engineers were 30ft plus. I think that would have been a cool idea. Just out of interest, we have not seen the engineers or elders together, so would it be possible that the elders turn out to be 30ft plus. That would be different.

Batchpool, I'm just gonna indulge in a bit of shamelessness and suggest you look at this if you haven't already. To really tell that story, none of it could be in English. I would love that, no English, or shall we say no Earth language, and no subs. But a real, translatable language. Or not. That would be an appropriately freaky film, with the right story and visuals. And yes, no weapons. At least none that make sense. Custodian, yes, a hack job. That's my take. But only just a little. I don't think confidence was high on the part of the studio, and I think Ridleys stance is at least in part political. But I agree with Joey, the final product is pretty slick. Plus, there seems to be footage no one has seen. Remember the Engineer running stills, and looking at a book?

@ Major Noob I don't know if you have ever seen this, Mindwarp, Galaxy of Terror James Cameron was a Production Designer for it. I thought Prometheus was going to go down this road, or something similar, but you can definitely see how the Aliens set must have been forming in Camerons' mind. There are also elements in this film that have parallels with your link. I do think that having no translatable language is a good idea and would intensify the atmosphere.

Prometheus is an absolute masterpiece. That being said, I would welcome a Director's Cut! (Especially If it contained some of the unseen scenes mentioned above) I have seen this movie so many times my wife thinks I have Asperger's; and it just keeps getting better! I constantly destroying and rebuilding my own theories. The only scene I would dream of changing is the Fifield Attack. I would have made him look more Xeno-esque. To even speak of a do-over or reboot is outrageous! I've read Spaights original draft, and while it was cool, it would have been just another pick-em-off alien movie. I'm confident the SJ was just another Engineer who was somehow impregnated by a facehugger or goo or some crap. I wonder if the connection will be made more direct in Part 2.

Batchpool- yes, that would be one bizarre film. And holy cow! That trailer was great, thank you for sharing! Svanya- yes, we're talking about a reboot of the reboot. Kind of. Not really a prequel though. I don't think. Fleshvessel- yes,I think it's a masterpiece too. I can't watch it though because I keep loaning it to people. Ah, one day...

Just leave it alone its been made and therefore its done. Now time to make the sequel to it.

-King just leave it alone, because Spaihts' draft was alright but it kinda sucked a little bit. The whole concept of calling the ship Magellan makes no sense as far as the movies premise goes Prometheus makes more sense. That's why Damon Lindelof came in later with Jon Spaihts and made it better . The Engineers are fine the way they are. YOU REALLY WANT TO SEE ELEPHANT PEOPLE go to Cambodia or India just not in Prometheus. I have always thought that the chair suit was a better interpretaion than a Cyborg-trunk-man siting on a recliner and all hooked up is lame like Terminator. Im glad you didnt want tusks on this mammoth creature. I really mean no offense but its just that I've heard about this way to many times and after a while its tiresome.

Svanya, 'Prometheus already a reboot'? indeed - but I didn't believe 'that' hype. Maybe I should have had more 'faith'. :) What would I have liked to see? Well, I dunno, "How did the eggs get into the cargo hold in the original Alien?" that sorta basic prequel material. But then I realise there's an anti-prequel faction among franchise watchers who whine, "Yeah, but then you'll know the end i.e. LV426's 'crash landing' or 'soft landing' or 'dropping out of Ganesha-directed Hyper Space 1mm above the moon's surface'. And so what? It's an ORIGIN PROJECT, and sure, unless you truncate the end and don't (necessarily) show the arrival of Derelict on LV426, it's a 'chicken-egg solution' where you see a chicken actually lay an egg. Could be a GOLDEN EGG. :) And I admit that Elephantine aspect of original Space Jockey isn't guaranteed or warranted, Giger just had this 'guy' in this 'observation chair' he was welded in and there was no certainty that he had LEGS. Maybe he was grown within the chair's potentiality. Maybe the immature version of Jockey and Chair had organic relations prior to their meetings, and growing the derelict around their 'union'. Ref: my alien derelict dream. ANYTHING!!!!! but certainly put back those deleted scenes into a proper-length version where, "Prometheus has landed."

LV-223 Could be the new LV-426? I've wondered the same thing several times. I understand the idea of Ganesha, and I like it...but perhaps that never happen. Maybe this is the space jockey from LV-426 (and now I see come the torches and sticks XD) because this film can be a reboot, Prometheus actually has many similarities with Alien. Although I prefer to see it as a prequel / spin off.

I realise it's KIDS BESIDE A SCULPTURE but 'this is exactly what Ridley wanted' for this shot i.e. monumental scale. in fairness to Ridley, it was ONLY the Prometheus art director who swayed him from such an ENORMOUS entity, or Space Jockey - in fact early sketches suggest that Godly size was exactly what they were going for. A length-of-arm comparison settles this -- from this image, it looks like the Space Jockey arm is at least TWICE more like 2.5 times as long as the 'human' arm beside it. That translates to 'roughly' what, FIVE METERS-ish? Harryhausen showed us this was possible, decades ago. And this OMISSION of the (Spaiht-originated) David Enhanced View in a generally BLACK temple where he sees all the power lines, this was a mistake because it would have reinfroced David's supreme advantage over the 'mere mortals'. Plus, Pro~ wasn't gore-pervy enough for me. But this is more a question what YOU (who wanted a REBOOT) would have wanted from a pre-Prometheus project, if you could go back and re-examine 'who was that guy in that chair'?

Custodian- I would want a story that takes place in the darkest basement of the farthest star. There could be humans, humans that have no knowledge of Earth. The first humans, mute inventory grown to stock the pantries of the SJ bio labs. This is our true origin. But it would not be a human drama, their presence is purely to advance the story. There would be Engineers, the custom made tools of the SJ, who grow the humans from their own DNA at the behest of their masters. We would see the capture of the first Xeno. We would see the terrible accidents and outcomes of their research of same. The creation of the first human, and the covert invention of their reproductive process. The theft of a giant seed shaped vehicle, and a revisit of the first minutes of Prometheus. The capture of the Engineers leader by the SJ, and the Engineers' attempt to destroy their masters, with one consequence being the downed vehicle on LV426, reporting its deadly position forever, hoping to lure the Engineers children, the humans of Earth, to their doom. Again, no understandable language, no subtitles.

may be possible that the Space Jockey from LV-426 can be shown to the public as an event of an ancient past in a prologue or opening of the sequel.

@fleshvessel I liked the other fifield attack better(regarding deleted scene) too, but I think it changes the 'definition' of the black goo. I think it suggests that its a material that changes people into xenos. Maybe that not what RS wanted.
