Sinc emany of us know our movie quite well and anre learning additiona aspects through the postings it is curious to see other movies that have scenes that seem to reference Prometheus I mention this because we were watching the movie 'Santa Clause III' There is a scene wher Santa is showing off his Sno-Globe collection. THe young girl was in a room with Snow Globes sort of floating around her..all around her and she not only was amazed but seemed to be reaching out for them. It was presented in almost the same manner as when David first sees the Orrery with it depiction of the various Engineer Worlds in the Universe. I can'r say much about the quality of this Christmas movie but that particular scene reflected back to our movie that was made years later. Post if you have also seen Prometheus referenced in media through the nyears.

Prometheus is a bit too new to be referenced in other films (but more on that later). It may well be the case that it's the other way round, and various scenes in it reference other films. Now, about Prometheus being mentioned in other films, a question. What Prometheus parodies have appeared since its theatrical release? Anything on Robot Chicken, for example? Simpsons? Anything OTHER than "How it should have ended", "Honest trailers", "Red Letter Media talks Prometheus (SPOILERS)" (and again)? Because, imo, one measure of the quality of something is how well it lends itself to parody. Say what you will about 300- the sheer amount of memetic mutation shows that film to have resonated on some level. There's also quite a lot of Avengers memery going on the interwebs. I saw some, but not that much, on Prometheus. And that's a shame.
The whole point of this is lost if you keep it a secret.

Maybe it's a little too leftfield sci-fi to be acknowledged in a mass-appeal film. On a related note though, there may be some imitators. I hope for really good films of similar 'exploration into the unknown' themes. A good start would be for Guillermo Del Toro resurrecting his ATMOM project, though strictly speaking that would not be an imitation more of a complimentary companion film explicitly showing a Lovecraftian world. Films need to tell stories of bizarre wonder/horror again.

Yes not only too new a film but Prometheus is not as well known as other related movies like Batman, Superman even Blade Runner is probably more well known that Prometheus. Perhaps I have it wrong Maybe RS was replicating OTHER movies(like Lawrence of Arabie) in various scenes. When signing in this time I noticed the greeting scene was indeed the Orrery with David looking all around in wonderment. This was the same as what I saw in the Santa Clause III movie, Although I can't imagine ES using the holiday movie as a source for his films maybe there are few nods to other cinema presentation that he did select.

@Indy John; Prometheus isn't an obscure movie at all. @BLANDCorporatio; If you look through the site you will see the links you posted and many, many more parodies. :)

@ Indy An interesting observation. Is this the same Santa Claus movie you saw the Santa whizzing across the night sky - the one that reminded you of the Prometheus whizzing across a star-speckled back ground? @Bland I don't think the number of times a movie is parodied has much to do with quality. How a movie influences the art of movie making, how it's themes resonate with its audiences and longevity would be signs of quality. Alien and Blade Runner for example.

@javablue It was a different movie with the steaking Santa Clause, But you point out something: I didn't realize that Santa is taking over my life!!! Yikes,, AS far as being well known movie. I'll do a survey of friends/ realtives through the holidays just to see how well known our movie si out side of this site, I hope I am surprised andf find out that there is at least a recognition of not only the title but an understanding of the basic storyline.

irt. javablue: no question that the things you list are indicators of quality. They need not be the only ones, though. Imo, parodiability is another. It's not a perfect indicator, but it does often associate with it. There's loads of humorous references to 2001: a space odyssey in all sorts of places, for example. In part, that's because that film is very recognizable and has become very central to film culture. In part, it's because that film's thematic richness allows many new takes, including humorous ones. And well made parodies are -fun-. Nothing wrong with extending enjoyment of a film thusly.
The whole point of this is lost if you keep it a secret.

@Indy Yes, yikes. Sci-fi and Santa movies - sounds like a multiple personality disorder, mate. What was the name of the streaking Santa movie?
