was Blade Runner foreshadowing the potential/future Tyrell/Weyland merger in Prometheus 2, 3 with the words delivered to Roy Batty's lips when 'meeting his maker', "Nothing the god of biomechanics won't let you in heaven for." For me, there's ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG with merging the two seemingly disparate worlds of BR and PRO, "A new life awaits you in the Off-world colonies! A chance to begin again in a golden land of opportunity and adventure!," oh, you can't, space has been corporatised and automated by Nexus(!) I just can't work out why Weyland/Tyrell became Weyland-Yutani and nobody in the Alien franchise has ever heard of the trail-blazing Dr Shaw and her robot friend who went to Paradise and spoke with the Gods.

Did I miss an announcement somewhere that the genres will in fact be merging? The absence of Tyrell engineering in Alien suggests otherwise. Whatever, Roy's words do have a certain resonance with the movie that was to follow thirty years later. What evidence do you have that the crew of the Nostromo knew nothing of the Prometheus mission? They are hardly going to mention it in idle conversation, are they? And even if some of them don't know (I imagine that Brett & Parker would have little interest in such matters), it's excusable for the same reason that you probably cannot name, off the top of your head, the first man to row solo across the Atlantic.
The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent

It's an easter egg on the Prometheus bluray, Weyland referring to his old Mentor and friend, and their different stances on AI. As for whether the Nostromo knew about Shaw, David, etc. - i think if they knew, they would NOT have touched down on LV426 and made all the same mistakes SHAW and friends did on 223.

...But wouldn't that kind of information be classified? Why divulge that kind of information to a crew on a simple commercial towing ship operated by simple mechanics? Considering they were all disposable.

so we're saying THE LEGEND OF THE PROMETHEUS FLIGHT never made it to mainstream understanding, in the future? As I thought, "There are no Engineers left alive," otherwise we'd be toast by now, surely. :(

Not at all, Shaw and David made it, spoke with the Engineers and made peace the end! Information still classified!

Oneironaut, that was funny - excellent. No, quid pro quo though? Or was that where Weyland got their FTL from?

I think the next Scott project will be BR, Hampton Fancher is working on the script, the connection Weyland with BR? OFF WORLD, remember that Weyland has colonies outside of Earth, Mars for example.

I think the reason no one's heard of Shaw and David is that the company doesn't want to admit how big of a mistake creating David was. Let's say David goes completely evil for a while after gaining free-will and escalates a war between the Engineers and humans, having all the other androids try to take over all of humanity and the company at the same time. The company would want to take a step back from the David design and try to make Ash more obedient/stable. They might try to cover up the fact that David has involved them in an ongoing war with the Engineers that has secretly been threatening some of their other colonies. This could cause Weyland-Yutani to cover up a lot, and wait for a while before approaching the signal. A whole hidden war with the Engineers has gone on and they learned not to mess with that form of the fire. The company has secretly wanted to fight fire with fire this whole time. just some ideas, not sure if this would happen, other than a strong belief David has free-will now..

Mala'kak @ I wonder in the two in a half years of space travel, what did David in all that time?, he knows the dreams of every crew member, with an isolated Weyland his mentor, is a long time without doing nothing, here is anyone could start writing up a script!

Your suggestion that David is reading everybody's dream at Weyland's command. And then with Weyland shaping the future uses David to place the ctre in the best places or situations to meet the immortals? Hmm. Knowing all of the cards in a poker game sort puts you in the driver's seat on the road what you percieve as Immortals? If this takes much David/Weyland interaction then Weyland could age faster..and perhaps fataly since he has such little time to live. Weyland would then be playing Poker for the highest stakes. It sort of makes you wonder if David could read Weyland's dreams.

Indy@ Interesting your reply, David has the ability sesorial to read dreams, do could have he tried it with the Engineer? Who says that Weyland wasn't so a perfect Android posing as Weyland?, because the expedition is a inappropriate risk for him. Then we see the easy way of David desenvolvese in the cavern of the creators, who says that they did not landing before in the other twin Moon LV-426. This is all hypothetical, but was very peculiar form of unwrap him along the corridors, opening floodgates, too easy, also he known alien navigation, remember that the cosmic signal comes from LV-426 and not from LV-223, thats my theory.

Mateo I have to hand it to you as there is much food for thought in your post. It didn't occur to me that the Engineer's dream could possibly be read. THe shape of the sleep pods seemed to similar to humans and the two sleep chamber could have been related. Engineers dreams would be chaotic or ar least jumbled since a different entity is being scanned . David understaning even a part of their story would be a trememdous advantage accomplish unstated goals. Weyland as an Android is a great storyline It never made sense to me that the real Weyland and Vickers would be on the same ship at the same time on path to a distant rock. Heck if all the key charactors were 'droids then David might be the Head Robot pun intended.
