we see the naked foot of an Engineer make contact with suburban Earth, we hear the sirens and the slaughter of Civil Unrest. if that's not how Prometheus 2 starts, we can safely assume that the ENGINEERS ARE ALL DEAD. And there may be another race among the stars who killed them, besides the Xenos. This, for me, is one more reason why we shouldn't have CORED OUT the Space Jockey character and just used his carapace as a pressure suit/pilot seat interface. Pointless, wasted, non-empathic excuse for a REAL QUESTION, "Who are the SpaceJockey (truckers) and why their egg cargo?"

People on here are (mostly) very happy with what happened to the confusing Prometheus project; the Engineer solution. Even though they didn't fulfill their role as 'empathetic character', you know; mute suiciders, mute thugs. I feel Prometheus is (a great little film but) a missed open goal. There'll be few positive responses to this thread, I'm sure. And that might be a good idea, at least there'll be warming partisanism. People who think the Ganesha 'truck driver' narrative isn't enough empathy for the viewer even though films like Wall-E (in fact most of Pixar's output) prove that 'objects' can be succesfully anthropomorphised. We don't need a Human film character to portray a) story and b) emotion. Would PROMETHEUS have been 'enough of a story' without the fairly blatant references to Alien and Giger all through it? Or would it just have come across as Ridley Does Stargate?

I wish they weren't dead...then we won't learn nothing from them.

Year 3,000 The fourteenth generation Personality Bank on AL-589 detects a glitch in Memory Construct FrreeePlannet - a simulacrum derived from early internet archives and tissue samples taken from a crime scene in Bangkok, 2043. "I am not a FrreePlannet. I am a Custodian," it proclaims, whilst spooling the history of Ridley Scott to the investigating agent. "We need to sort this out," hisses a voice from the sub-ether. The investigating agent leans forward and gives Custodian a metaphorical tap on the shoulder through a 300-light-year bridge. "You are going to die," he says. "But only for a moment, so don't worry." "Rewinding, now," he says to his unseen masters. "Reconciliation will occur in Tissue Sample T-minus 16 years. Indications are that the subject will be normalised with minimal loss of hubris." The link fizzles out and the Personality Bank on AL-589 resumes its work.

I guess that when the Engineers reach Earth, we will all be dead, soon, anyway!

Cblue, there'll be no DEAD HUMANS, real life doesn't exist in the Weyland Universe - I mean, after all, they had 13 X speed of light travel and didn't think to mention ANYTHING ABOUT THAT. It's just there, in the future, awaiting a galaxy overpopulated by the Human Virus, or maybe Nexus 6's.

Xeno's did kill (or were responsible for the death of) The Engineers. THIS IS BLATANTLY OBVIOUS! Milburn comments on how the corpses had "exploded from within" and you can clearly see 'burst' holes in some of their chests. In a deleted scene on the bluray, Milburn and Fifield also find some shed Xenomorph skin in the corridors. Clearly they were running from a newly spawned Xeno or Deacon. (There must have been an accident involving the black goo.) It's no coincidence they shared the same fate as the original Space Jockey.

Am i missing something? If anything, the fact that we are still here means they are all dead, as no Engineers resumed the "destroy/mutate mankind mission" over 2000 years ago. The fact that this mission stopped with the last Engineer we see suggests that their race (or at least that faction) is long gone.

Fleshvessel, then what were the Engineers (they were being pursued by someone cloaked or 'erased', no?) running away from? Can the xenos cloak? Predators can, but I don't like an Engineer debate that incorporates that. You can't run away from an infestation of you're own chest; or rather, such would not be able to externally pursue you. There was SOMEONE in the corridors with the fleeing Engineers, and it didn't record. Am I right in guessing that you AGREE with me that 'there are no Engineers left'?

just because the engineers didnt continue with the destroy all life on earth mission doesnt mean they are all dead, they could have changed their minds again or maybe it was a small minoraty ot engineers working alone. but then again why did the humans get away with colonising lv426 without the engineers intervening i mean its one of their moons unless they received the warning and laughed at our stupidity.

Also, a scream which sounds just like the Deacon at the end, sounds out as David activates the first recording. Heard but not seen, lol.

Definitely agree. Engineers all dead. The fact is, the dead pile of Engineers had been chest-bursted, and a deleted scene shows Milburn and Fifield finding a shed xeno skin in the corridors. Now, why this Deacon, Xeno, whatever, threat doesnt appear on the recordings, i dont know. It could be they saw their Engineer buddies bursting open and just ran like the wind. We dont know how far behind this threat was- the recording ends as the decapitee falls.

@Fleshvessel: The scream is interesting, but I still think the engineers died when their heads exploded. I don't think xeno's were involved. The skin found sounds like one alright, but even if there was a xeno around, the engineers still probably died there when their heads exploded, as a result of some other agent. The skin could have been shed by one of the hammerpedes, too, or by another creature that was wandering around.

The fact is THEIR CHESTS WERE BURST OPEN in several cases. Another clue is the slimy "impressive" goo that David spreads between his fingers. This is VERY resemblant of Xeno saliva. Also based on the shape of the skin (not sure if you have seen the bluray) it had arms and legs. C'mon, shed skin, sticky saliva, screams and chest-bursting!? Resist it all you want- Xenos were present (or deacons maybe) on LV-223. Look in your heart- you know this to be true...lol.

So then, were they running from their own exploding heads?! C'mon man- shed skin (with arms), chest-bursted Engineers, Deacon screams, sticky alien saliva (the stuff David spreads between his fingers) on the walls; how much more do we need!?

@Fleshvessel: It's just that when Milburn says the dead engineers look like they burst from within, it's easy to assume, knowing as we do about alien, that it was what xeno's do, and if you look closely at the bodies, the only hole in them is in one of their helmets/ heads. Their suits resemble rib cages, which gives it a look of chests burst open, but really you see nothing but their suits. What I think happened was the engineers were running from yet another WMD, either chemical or biological, which was airborne, and they hoped if they got away in time they wouldn't inhale enough of it to kill them. The one who was decapitated still had this weapon inside his system, and his death prevented his head from exploding. It's all strange stuff, and I can come up with a couple other ideas, but this seems logical, and it adds a certain new dimension of fear.

Fleshvessel

The masks (one would think) would prevent the engineers from inhaling any airborne contagions, no? Furthermore, David had verified the air was contagion-free and safe to breathe. The Engineer looking back over his shoulder as he flees also implies he was being pursued by something. I agree they were infected with something, but you guys are all ignoring the most important pieces of the puzzle: 1) The scream at the beginning of the recording 2) The shed Xeno skin (not hammerpede skin- watch bluray) 3) The sticky green saliva crap on the walls/panels 4) (Possibly the most important) The Engineer cry pods (all but one) had been burst through, as if some, small creature burst out. Hmmm... Wonder what that could have been...?

I wonder why the PURSUER OF THE ENGINEERS was left such a mystery - it's a pretty cynical ploy.

@Fleshvessel: The engineers' cryo-pods weren't burst through, not the ones at the end in the theatrical release at any rate. Do you mean there were others in the deleted scenes?

MemberOvomorphOct-30-2012 2:44 PM
Sorry, but YES they 100% were. I have seen this 10 times (so far) ; during my 10th viewing last night i snapped a pic for ya. (You almost had me doubting myself) Shit i cannot paste here! I'll find a link to a theatrical pod...

you're right, three of the four looked BURST THROUGH ... so they were (?) being Face Hugger pursued? Or was it a spore version? Or some cloaked thing? interesting.
