As you watch the inquest of Ellen Ripley on Aliens it helps to look at the timeline that prometheus, alien and aliens took place. The following dates are approximate and there is a point I want to make afterwards Prometheus: 2093 Alien: 2122 approx Aliens: 2179 which is 57n years after the events on the Nostromo took place. What is puzzeling is why the inquest commitee members clearly do not have information regarding xenomorphic life forms. One of them states that in 300 explored worlds never once did they encounter a creature like Ripley discribed. I can only imagine the the Weyland-Yutani corp. at this point in time, has compartmentalized the information regarding xenomorphs for only specific persons such as Ash due to the evidence of directive 925 in Alien where Mother, the Weyland programmed computer on the Nostromo states that the ship was rerouted to the co-ordinates to investigated and return the lifeform, which all other priorities recended and crew expendable. So Weyland corp. clearly knew about the existance of xenomorphic life forms and wanted them 57 years before the inquest. Even Carter Burke, clearly didnt initially know at the time of the inquest but his profit driven interest was peaked afterwards, which is why he sent out the wildcat mom and pop team to investigate the grid co-ordinates beyond the alien ranges on LV 426 without warning. He later explains that the reason he did not warn them was he did not want to create a security situation which would make it impossible for anyone to take advantage of the xenomorphic lifeforms Ripley discribed in the inquest. He wanted to capture the lifeform and get it back to Weyland's bioweapons division as he stated. This is my explanation as to why the inquest commitee appears not to be aware of the existance of xenomorphic lifeforms and does not believe Warrent Officer Ellen Ripley at her inquest.

It's not like they'd tell anyone they wanted the xeno even at the expense of the lives of the crew of the Nostromo. It seems surprising, in retrospect, that Ripley didn't talk more about the order sent to Ash and Mother which staes she and the rest of the crew were so expendable. Whoever wanted the xeno's was probably unknown to Burke or anyone else in that conference. It is convenient to think that such knowledge may have come to the Weyland top executives, people who were next in line to succeed Vickers. These people had confidence in Ash, because he is an android they created. The bigger question is whether AVP and AVP2 are to be considered canon because then the knowledge of the aliens has been in the hands of the corporations, both Weyland and Yutani before they merged, in the early 21st century.

Everyone by Lex was killed in AvP and the pyramid was nuked. All they had in AvP2 was a fuzzy video clip. They didn't know what it was, but it didn't stop them nuking an American city...

Visionary Alpha "that Ripley didn't talk more about the order sent to Ash and Mother which staes she and the rest of the crew were so expendable." Now there's an excellent point and adding to that why was there no mention of the above mentioned in her final report ? I would have wanted to have some proof that I was attacked or at the very least that there was such a directive.

Also, Wayland dies in AVP in 2004. Why is Wayland alive in Prometheus around 2093? Is that W Jr ? The dude dies twice and both time killed by aliens and his own arrogance

I don't like the timeline overall. Think about what humans accomplish in 100 years. From 1913 to now think about what we've done. To think that a company or humanity in general wouldn't have either made bigger strides toward figuring out/weaponizing the xenos and that 100 years since "Prometheus" is hard to believe. That's why I actually like the "Alien colonial Marines" canon. It makes me feel like Weyland is actually advanced in their knowledge of the xenos, and is "playing dumb" around the events of Aliens. I feel that the Prometheus sequels, if they want, can dive further into how Weyland gets from the events of Prometheus to the events of Aliens and Alien 3, and develops their knowledge of xenos. I always felt that in the Alien movies that WEyland didn't necessarily want to cling to the xeno because they felt that was the last chance to study, but they clinged to it because they didn't want anyone else to know about that species. If this is the case, it would make sense why nobody knew about xenos during Ripley's inquisition. Something that major would for sure be "classified" to executive pay grade only. Thats why they had to send Burke to Hadley's hope, rather than risk a lower paygrade surviving and spreading the word
