Alternate Reality Story Could Explain Odd Behavior

Not that I think an alternate reality Prometheus story will ever be considered, but it would be an easy way to explain why everybody in Prometheus acted as if they were incredibly stupid, incompetent, and crazy -- because they are the ones living in a Bizzaro world. Prometheus 2 would just be Prometheus 1, but with more normal behavior and a logical outcome. Or, you could have the outcome be exactly the same, just to be clever.

The deleted scenes pretty much clear up all the gaps in the story. The movie looked torn apart because it litterally was missing pieces.

Where can I read about the deleted scenes? Do you have link? Thanks. It would be great if they had a director's cut that wasn't such a mess.

Yes possibly the deleted scenes but I horribly feel like its mostly down to a 74 year old being in charge and no one standing up to him not even lindelof who didnt do the best job either :( . But if I were being positive I hope theres a real explanation in part 2 could even be the god like being ridley has mentioned controlling there minds :D ! Hmmm but probably not :P....or something better of course!

I found this video compilation of all the deleted scenes, which really helps a lot: http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=26179&count=0 I wish they had a scenes of all the characters who acted beyond stupid having gotten some kind of brain damage in hypersleep, then that would be perfect.

@Ebugogo; Most of the links have been taken down off the net. You will have to purchase the Blu-Ray to see them . Oops, I see you found some!

One idea I had was it was all a test! It was a test to see how people reacted to the film - ridley will come out on that date we all know and say - hahar - I intentionally made a dumb film with no plot to see how many of you would like it - heres to real one...no only joking of course :P ...

I think what we saw was an exaggerated caricature of human nature, a theme that dominates the entire franchise. The continuous attempts to apprehend the next source of power, the terrible consequences of same. The Engineers being our genetic descendants ties this up nicely, plus we get through them a taste of how truly powerful and uncontrollable the Goo is, their apparent fate being any indication. Fire, gun powder, electricity, fission. Black Goo is a metaphor for all these things.

@Major Noob; True. It does seem to be an endless circle when it comes to the Xeno, one that always ends up badly for those trying to control it for use as a weapon. With the humans most certainly and possibly even the Engineers IF that is what they were using it for.

Svanya: Thank you! Personally I didn't find the crews behavior to be stupid, more arrogant and woefully over their heads, which I thought was the point. Kids far from home in a dark spooky place, totally ignorant of their peril. Classic, really, and for me refreshing in contrast to the heroic stereotype. They were flawed, they wore it on their sleeves, and this too is consistent with the franchise. I expected something different too, then after the UK release (I'm in the US) I expected something terrible, then I was blown away. What a trip Prometheus is!

the crew of the Prometheus were all jack-asses because this is as good as David's narrative romancing can get? I like that... PS: there's a whole section of that Engineer Awakens scene missing: he starts to sit up, connected to all those cables, his facemask still in place. Next shot, he's sat totally upright, crawling out of the pod, the facemask on the side of the pod. Lost scene or just 'in-camera prosthetic removal difficulty'?

While i was going to try and save watching the deleted scenes for the blu-ray that link was simply to tempting and I lost all self control. So, I watched them. I've always preached pretty hard that I have faith that Ridley hasn't and wouldn't cut out anything that would make one of his films "better" of his own free will. By "better" I mean that he wouldn't cut anything that would actually help the films overall presentation be superior. I don't mean that he wouldn't cut something that I thought was "cool". I've always used Alien as an example. The "DC" of Alien is not a "superior" film. Yeah, it has some stuff that I think is "cool" and loved seeing but the overall result is the same. The complete opposite end of the spectrum would be Kingdom of Heaven. The DC of KoH has so much more than the theatrical. Subtext as well as sublots were cut. KoH was butchered by the behest of Fox. Ridley did not want the cuts. With this evidence and the evidence of Ridley's other films and recuts I had faith that Ridley would never do what he has done here. I'm not saying that all the scenes I watched would have made the film better. In fact some absolutely needed to be left out and even the sequences I wanted back in had certain things I thought absolutely needed to be taken out. Keep in mind that I've only seen what was in that link. i haven't seen all the deleted scenes. On to a different topic discussed in this thread. I've always been of the mind that the crews idiocy was exploited by Weyland. Like I've said he hired these people for their flaws not their attributes. I was going back over articles in magazines from before the film came out and came across a quote where Ridley described the crew as "fairly sensible people". In the context it comes across pretty clear, knowing what we know now, that Ridley knew these characters to did illogical things in the film. he wouldn't have thrown the "fairly" in there if he was oblivious to the things they did.

Just to be clear, I think the "David's perspective" theory is absurd.

lol it's meant to be that way, but the stuff about David deceiving is all true so that was just an extension of that to explain David's image briefly flashing when David disconnects from the dream viewer. I think most of the illogical behaviour is a symptom of the culture Weyland had made himself a head of. Certain things are different about the people of this time vs. the people of the time in Alien. These people depend on a chaotic, irrational leader to give them everything. Weyland provided everything for them that would take them on this mission and they depend on David and the portable carbon dater, meeting the engineers for immediate answers etc. instead of doing enough real science. Not thinking for themselves or questioning like Shaw kind of does. They all have an ego problem like Weyland. Displaying false egos/false emotions at different times, and toned down emotions throughout. Millburn is a good example with his tough guy act, and how he uses an accent at the beginning, but then drops it. David's perspective is that he dislikes humans of that time period. When holloway says they're making them even more real. David says "not too real I hope"... But what David doesn't realize/acknowledge/ know? is he has been made "real" by way of his artificial emotions. So he comes to develop attitudes and perspectives. And biases in his analysis.
