I stumbled (which is how I usually find things) upon a great title for the forth coming second installment of the Prometheus series. Paradise Lost simple, tasteful, and very telling. staff: Weyland Corp. Publications and Marketing Division, Earth Orbit

Wow... the storm of speculation and the battle of debate... I was only offering a simple title that POPPED into my little kat head. It was not meant to create such a boundless arena of thought and consternation. staff: Weyland Corp. Suggestive Influences and Behavioral Sciences Titan Moon

I don't think "Lost" should be included in the title ('cause that's already taken by John Milton and the simple title "Prometheus: Paradise" is bloody superb), but I definitely like some of the possibilities of references to the classic poem like Engineering mentioned. Shaw and David could in turn be OUR emissaries to the ENGINEERS (as opposed to Jesus Christ as the Engineer emissary to us). That's pretty brilliant I think, Engineering, having them be tempted with immortality (like you said) or some sort of power in exchange for wiping out the rest of the race or otherwise face "crucifixion." That's a pretty sweet idea. Best I've heard so far... *applauds* And yeah, definitely don't put "Lost" in the title.. no good..

if it has LOST in it... means Lidelof didn't get lost... and he should GET LOST! muahahahah.

Wouldn't that cause quite some confusion?...

MemberOvomorphAug-09-2012 11:57 AM
... confusion is my state of mind... an old title of a Classic poem... but then we are talking about Hollywood. I am sure they will just call it Paradise... and not realize the Lost portion would relate to the decline and fall of the engineer's empire. Just thinking out loud.

Man, that brings a lot of things to mind regarding what they could do with the film story wise. David and Shaw=Adam and Eve Engineer home planet=The Garden of Eden Who then would be the devil??? What would Shaw and David be tempted with??? Could they be tempted with something so great(immortality) to turn on the rest of us and help destroy earth and humankind??? I just love it! Thanks, Patch! You've got my mind going! Really, out of all the ideas I've read for the sequel this is the most exciting. Of course it couldn't be a "literal" interpretation so to speak of Pradise Lost but they could pick certain elements and themes and put them in the story.

Edit function is on the fritz again but I wanted to point out that I do know that David is an android and that he could not be tempted with immortality. Perhaps they could tempt him with a soul.

Reading some of the reactions to this it seems some are equating "Lost" in the title with the Lost tv series instead of the poem Paradise Lost. I'm not sure if people are just not familiar with the poem or what. If they're not and the tv series is that much more known that sure does say a lot about the state of things. That would be quite sad if that is indeed the case.

Yeah, I think it's a great idea too. However, thinking about it a little more I think the Engineer's would have to offer Shaw immortality and David a soul. David would go for it while Shaw would definitely turn the offer down and end up sacraficing herself for humankind in a battle to the death between the two. After all, humankind are David's "parents" and as David says "doesn't everyone want their parents dead?" Not sure what or how David or Shaw could help them destroy us. Perhaps David, a creation of Weyland and humankind, holds some kind of key that can lead to our demise. The first is a good idea but I'm not getting my hopes up. I know too many people who let their ideas and desires for Promethus ruin the film for them. It's not gonna happen. Just fun to consider and think about it.

nah, PARADISE LOST was only 'funny' with the idea that Lindelof was attached. In fact, there was more of a resonance when the show used to be called PARADISE, like until they opted for a Prometheus direction, though I STILL didn't see a resolve on that old FIRE STEALING concept. In fact, NOTHING WAS EXPLAINED at all, during the entire length of the film. It was all smoke and mirrors. Which was sorta what you might expect from a reboot, NOT from a prequel. In fact, has ANY PREQUEL worked? Ever?

I mentioned this as a possible title in an earlier post. I like it, I like it a lot. It's my understanding the original title was going to be 'Paradise' and they had the intention of there being a sequel so 'Paradise Lost' as the 2nd or 3rd sequel name makes sense. This is a story of biblical proportions and and there is enough foreshadowing from all previous films telling us we are going to uncover something messed up. There is going to be more horror and more revelation of our origins. I see this as Ridley Scott giving us a different possibility to the outcome of Space Oddysey 2001. That instead of finding "something wonderful" as the evolved David Bowman character says in Space Odyysey 2010 we will find something horrible. To me The Alien franchise was conveying through horror the outcome of greed, which is merciless and soulless evil. I think the moral of 2001 was we are bad but we could be good when we evolve. I think Prometheus is trying to tell us we are good but we have the potential to evolve to the ultimate evil.

"After all, humankind are David's "parents" and as David says "doesn't everyone want their parents dead?"" Nice! Yeah, makes you wonder: that difference of opinion probably should become an issue at some point between Shaw and David, seeing as Shaw lost her parents.. good point. Yeah, I'm sure whatever they've got planned is just as good or better, but we know the eventual outcome: and that's that humanity and earth survive. (dammit, lol). :P

I would actually like to see a cinematic rendition of both Milton's Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained. Though much of it would sound rather misplaced and awkward nowadays if one doesn't take to account how old the text is and all the innuendos it has. But it can be done, if handled carefuly.

@patch kat. Hey, no biggie, I don't see it that way. I knew I wasn't the only one thinking of that title. I just wanted to chime yeah I think you're right and I thought of it too (to add my vote). This movie takes on a very very big subject and deserves something as big as 'Paradise Lost' ... On the other hand... Some people think this movie is a joke... I can't blame them considering those 2 jokers that deserved death and the lack of emotional attachment we felt at Janik and his crews sacrifice. The how the heck is Shaw running around after major surgery and why the hell don't they act serious or stoked about first contact? Also, I think a lot of people like me were going into this movie knowing that after every Alien movie there is satisfactory closure. That was SO not the case here. Other than that Ridley made one of the best Sci-Fi movies I've seen in years. I buy maybe one favorite movie per year and this one is definitely going to be this years movie. It comes at us seemingly pretenscious but for me they pull it off. This is not a bunch of cheesy symbolism, someone used their brain so we could use our brain (except for the guy petting the snake)

what about Paradise Recovered, that's if they can pull the Lindelof-mess out of the Prometheus mire.

Engineering, I love your ideas for Paradise. Each movie could be looking into a different mythology that plays with the themes of Creation of Man. First was Prometheus, who sacrificed himself to progress evolution. Then Paradise would be relative to the Garden and explore Adam and Eve. (Except instead of Adam, it's a psychotic robot without a soul that has no emotions but is still curious enough to accidentally kill off all but one of the crew of a spaceship and create a new breed of alien monster, and instead of Eve, it's an infertile scientist who gave birth to an alien squid monster. Lots of alien monsters.) I wonder what myth the third one will touch? Remembering Battlestar Galactica, science fiction is a great genre to explore these kinds of religious topics that would probably be untouchable in any other genre.

It is anything but, OP. I'll go with what Ridley Scott decides. Nobody knows anything.
