In "2010 Odyssey two", a sequel to 2001, the monoliths are the will of superior alien entities who decide to terraform Europe to manage the evolution of the Europeans. But for that they destroyed the alien forms from Jupiter.
This is Destruction and terraforming for the greater good, because the Europeanos are more likely to evolve that the creatures from Jupiter. Some times I think that maybe this is the reason of why the Engineers want to destroy us; or in the words of David "Sometimes, In Oder To Create, You Must First Destroy".

Is this the beginning?

Perhaps before that scene was great destruction first, or vice versa in the future as a cycle.

MemberOvomorphJul-21-2012 1:18 AMShambhala,
yes, that opening scene (for me) tells us more about WHERE HUMANITY WENT after the WeylandYutani genewars ... turned us into roaving re-plenishers of worlds.
Our blue-giant (Avatar?) legacy.

MemberOvomorphJul-21-2012 1:29 AMNo this theory is about how any answer you come up with for the script, the mythology, the plot holes, the editing, the meaning of the movie. Anything you come up with that answers one part of the movie, leads to a question for another part of the movie. Its so simple but i dont understand how nobody gets it. THAT is what I think the ultimate puzzle behind this is. Its so easy but people just cant seem to (IMO) get this theory.
I just have one simple question.
No matter WHAT answer you come up with, are you not left asking another question about something else "wrong" with the movie?
And then do some answers not contradict the other questions you ask and then answered?
Is there ANYBODY out there who gets exactly what I'm saying??

MemberOvomorphJul-21-2012 9:35 AMYay "Congratulations Billy, you've passed the 2nd grade."
It makes too much sense so I'm sorry if nobody wants to believe this to be true.
Like I said, it's all about Ridleys intentions, not about what we want the movie to be.
Even thought IT SEEMS like we can make our own interpretation.
We just get sucked right back in to the merry go round.

MemberOvomorphJul-21-2012 1:08 PMAnd you can also think of it this way:
Isn't it just as hard to make sure that every single piece of the puzzle CAN'T be explained?
You have to deliberately make sure you leave no question fully answered, you have to make sure that you have a coherent "backstory" but none of the clues add up, and keep you running in circles, make sure there is no way to tie anything together without leaving another question up for grabs.
To me personally, that's exactly the same difficulty as trying to answer every question making sure nothing is left unanswered, if not a little harder to do.
So they go hand in hand in my opinion because just as much research and dedication need to occur to create the 'infinite regress', as is needed to make a coherent conclusion.

ok, I'll tell you what:
I N F I N I T Y would be a nice name for the Prometheus sequel.
... but we already know the name for the two sequels that are bound to become "the best stories ever told... like... the best... EVER"
And those are [in order]:
P R O T E U S
and
F E T U S
also there will be a spinnof for the television called

MemberOvomorphJul-21-2012 3:46 PMCall it whatever you want, there are tons of names, and yes the "eternal return" is exactly what I'm getting at.
The eternal return of a new question after one is answered, and then you "return" back to your original question.
I'm not quite sure if you're trying to belittle my theory, or not.
- The eternal recurrence.
- The snake biting it's tail.
- The dragon biting it's tail.
- The dog chasing it's tail.
- The never ending quest for answers.
- The OROBORUS.
- The pig-dragon (zhulong).
- "Big things have small beginnings."
- "There is nothing in the desert, and no man needs nothing."
- Religion.
- Mythology. (Example: Prometheus)
- "The trick, is not minding that it hurts."
- Canon or non canon Alien elements to the film Prometheus.
These are all either metaphors in the form of quotes, scenes, legends, physical manifestations that
U

T

and inevitably lead to more questions, or lead back to the original questions presented.
I'm sorry if this displeases people really I am, but don't take it out on me, I came to this conclusion, and it's a very valuable and makes sense in the simplest form, that yes, it CAN be laughed at.
But take a look around in the real world:
Politicians, you and me, Ridley Scott, we are all walking contradictions.
That's life, but what are we going to do to change that, and as a species of human beings in order to build a better world we need to do what we say, and mean what we do.
Until then........history is doomed to repeat itself.
War, shootings, global warming, greedy corporations, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
It will be the ultimate eternal recurrence until humanity wipes the slate clean on itself.
"That's all I have to say, about that."
- Forrest Gump

MemberOvomorphJul-23-2012 12:34 PMIts unbelievable how old religions like Hinduism and Buddhism have influenced this film. Theses religions are at the core and explain eternity for us. At least that is what I think. Both religions begin on the same road, and they then split off in different directions. Hinduism gives us the answer of existence by giving us reancarnation. Which means that life itself is a cycle. Buddhism on the other hand gives us spiritual enlightment. They might both split off the same road. But both begin on the same road together. In my opinion lile consists of both. We go through a cycle of never ending reancarnation and at the end of that life we are given the chance to go through the path of the enlightment process. I know what your getting at @deftones 1986. Keep putting up interesting threads like this one. You make everybody think, even though they might not ageee with you. At least I do.
