Of course, this thread begins under the assumption that Prometheus 2 (using the old set and some filming in Alicante, Spain) isn't already 'in the can' ready for a 10 . 11 . 12 Xmas release announcment... Director of some of the most adult/sci-fi/surrealist imagery onscreen, I recommend Dutch director PAUL VERHOEVEN for my uber-adult Paradise aka Prometheus 2 starring the delicious artwork of HR Giger, and a decapitated narrator who's not allowed into the cosmic-filth pit with our 'believing' heroine. Refn, what a very interesting suggestion. Re: Cronenberg - while he's an obvious choice for adult material, the problem is he'd be highly likely to demand a WRITING CREDIT, too -- and his most successful directorial project, for me, were where he DIDN'T ocntribute to the writing, was his straight directorial job The Dead Zone.

Chris nolan will not touch this type of story. That is for sure. If Micheal bay picks this movie, think of this as an end of alien series.

No please. If Ridley Scott is not doing it, please get Peter Jackson or Chris Nolan.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.... Either Sir Ridley, or bring Kubrik back from the dead. Maybe David Lynch or Cronemberg

David 1, CBT1979, good calls, fershoor, but I think (for a potentially sex-horror vehicle 4X4ing the torrid landscape of 'Paradise') Verhoeven would be the least restrained at the wheel. And what a Curtain Call it would be for the deeply-disturbing artistic vision of Herr Giger.

Please no. Verhoven is great at one thing and that's making silly satire. No way Prometheus could be made by Verhoven and be any good whatsoever. Just not his kind of film. And please, no Chris Cunningham either. As for who I would like to see direct it-if it can't be Scott of course-I don't really have just one that stands tall above the rest. I suppose my first choice would probably be Nicholas Winding Refn. I'd LOVE to see Refn take a crack as sci-fi. When you look at Vallhala Rising you really see how great he is at being able to be quiet and take his time. Much like Scott did in Alien but Refn takes it to another level. You see it in Drive as well and in sequences in Drive the pace goes from slow to frantic with gorgeous precision. I've never seen a director build tension at a slow pace as well as him. Maybe Scott and say Polanski come close but no cigar. I'd love to see his take on Prometheus. And unlike Cunningham he's proven he can make great featrure films. After this point they are in no particular order. I've heard people say Croneberg and I wouldn't mind seeing that. People seem to think he's the same director he used to be but he's really not. He's made some great stuff like A Dangerous Method. That is a seriously fan-freaking-tastic film. I can't get over how good it is. And while he's moved away from the sci-fi/horror realm I think a mixture of his old work with his new work would be a sight to see. I think what he would do would more than upset Alien fans though. If you think Scott took this in an upsetting direction you'd freak to see what Cronenbrg would do. An obvious choice is Duncan Jones and I think he deserves a big film. What he did with Moon was the perfect blen of paying homage and taking it a step further. He's got a great eye, likes practical FX and like Scott and Refn is a master at the slow pace. I'd like the film to have a slow pace and then break into a frantic pace which Refn can definitely do but I'm not so sure about Jones. That's very tricky to pull off . I'm not positive he could pull something like that off but I'm confident he could. One I'd love to see but it'll never happen is Fincher. I'd love to see what he'd do in this universe without a thousand cooks in the kitchen and a script that isn't being changed every 5 minutes. We all know pigs will fly first. While I will like to see Cunningham's first crack at a feature and sci-fi, I would definitely not like to see his first effort be the Prometheus sequel. For one, he's unproven and what I find even more disturbing is what happened the last time Fox and these producers, in this universe gave over the reigns-albiet not even halfway-to a first time director. While I like Alien 3 a little and don't find it a complete failure, it was a disaster of a production and should have been so much more. If Fox and Brandywine were to do it again I think history would repeat itself as far as no control for the first time director. And as we've seen Cunningham has turned down projects which didn't give him enough control. One off the wall pick of mine would be Brad Anderson. While I don't really care for all his work I think The Machinist is a classic which showed a world of potential. But he's a really off the wall pick and I'd be too scared if it were him. I think it would be too big for him. The reason I threw him in the mix is because I'd feel more comfortable with him than Cunningham simply because he's made a great film and a few decent films. Another obviousy/cliche pick would be Neill Blomkamp. While he's an obvious/ cliche pick I think he could get it done. With most of these directors I would definitely want Scott right behind them spelling out his vision but also letting them breath. Even with the other few that are definitely capable I would still want Scott with them putting in his 2 cents. One way or another Scott would have an influence. I think I'd like to see someone younger and not as experienced as say Cronenberg do it with a lot of Scott's imput rather than a legendary director with less Scott imput.

Here's a suggestion from leftfield due to his visually stylish movies, Michael Mann ? @Engineering, yeah I'd love to see what Fincher could do in this series, was my first thought actually.

The question is, what director will take the project with Lindelof on board ??

In my first post, while I misspelt Verhoeven I also said something I would like to alter. I said he was good at making "silly" satire. I'd like to change that to "over-the-top" satire. While some things in his films are silly, over-the-top describes his satire much better imo. I didn't mean it as an insult when I wrote it but it kinda comes off that way so I just wanted to correct it. @FreePlanet...Yeah, I'd love to see Refn do just about any genre ESPECIALLY horror and or sci-fi. He the most exciting new-ish feature filmmaker imo. Can't wait to see Only God Forives as I've read it's gonna blow Drive away. As far as Croenberg's best directorial effort being The Dead Zone and his films being better when he doesn't write them, I have to very aggressively disagree. Not that I don't respect you're opinion. I really find it shocking for some reason. With CLASSIC and ORIGINAL films like Videodrome, The Brood, Scanners, The Fly and Naked Lunch under his belt as both writer and director I think it's quite insane to even consider The Dead Zone as his best work. I really don't think you're insane so please don't be offended or anything. Cronenberg's writing is obviously an aquired taste and by no means is for everyone but I feel the every one of the films I listed as well as a few I didn't that he wrote are FAR superior to The Dead Zone. I do need to give The Dead Zone another watch though. TBH, I think A Dangerous Method just might be my favorite film by him and he had no writing credit on it. It's a masterpiece of directing, writing and acting imo. @Sky...If Michael Bay somehoe gets ahold of this I will seriously not go see it. I'll refuse. Some things we have to keep in mind is if it's isn't Scott it is going to have to be someone established with some kind of track record and they will probably have to have some kind of history with Fox. That is if they're going to put the kind of money the film needs and deserves into it. Just don't see Fox taking any kind of risks as far as a director goes.

@Mandroid...We're not even sure if Lindelof himself will be on board. If he is I really don't think directors have the same problems with Lindelof that fans have. In fact, I think they may have the opposite feeling towards him. Directors love to do what they want to do and from what we've been told Lindelof was basically a ghost writer that was there to do one thing...Scott's bidding. Much like when they kicked Hampton Fancher off Blade Runner and brought in David Peoples because Fancher wouldn't write what Scott wanted him to write. Miachael Mann is an interesting choice. Here's a suggestion...how about...the OTHER Scott???

@Engineering Yeah, Tony Scott would be interesting and keep things in house at Scott Free. I suggested Michael Mann because of "Heat" which I thought was visually a good film and in the back of my mind because I believe stepping into RS's shoes, any sequel should keep the style Ridley set with Prometheus, I believe Mann is capable of this, but his brother is equally stylish visually and can handle the pace if the script dictates it. But RS has to be on board at any cost, even if not in the chair.

If Ridley is not going to direct the sequel for what ever reason. I would go for Guillermo Del Toro as the director. I would also get rid of Lindledorf.

Let me state for the record, "I don't wanna bump off Ridley Scott from any sequel to Prometheus," no sir. I'm just thinking 'surrogates', you know, in case it's NOT ALREADY BEEN MADE and Ridley can't make my particular warped vision of what Alien+++ should be. :)

Cool, I understand myself. Sir Ridley should be the man. But you know how the entertainment business is nowadays. It's as ruthless as ever.
