Where to go from Prometheus

I discovered this forum after I was thinking about the film Prometheus. I had heard that the film was said to have plot-holes. I didn't notice any. It is a brilliant filmmaker that is bold enough to leave some questions unanswered, it takes a level of confidence, and a great deal of skill to anticipate what the audience wants, and to court that relationship without asking to much, Prometheus walks the line carefully. Early on Prometheus speaks to our human condition, featuring characters that are believably flawed, while contrasting those characters to a robot that emulates humanity. Wayland is successful phalic narcissist who has nothing to lose. He has a god complex. Wayland has actually recreated humanity in the image of his choosing, and he denies the completeness of that creation with a claim that cannot be substantiated. (David has no soul) What would a person like Wayland do while contemplating death. How many people around him are delighted to see him dead. Can a god die? Could an uprising of synthetic's occur? What a great parallel for what the Engineers were doing with Earth. Consider the difference between how David is treated in Prometheus, and how Bishop is treated in Aliens. Something has happened. Could the opening scene of the movie be an act of great compassion, could the Engineer be sacrificing himself to save the Earth? Could there be some kind of dispute among the race of what to do about Earth. Could humanity be a form of bio-terror for another race? Or a testing ground? Do the Engineers travel faster than light? Are these Engineers acting as part of a greater organization, do the Engineers still have a planet intact? A good sequel will not answer these questions so much as use them as a stepping off point for many more interesting questions.

Could humanity be a form of bio-terror for another race? You may have a point there. I wouldn't wish my ex-wife on any other race of beings. ; ) Moved to "Prometheus 2 Discussions"

Paradise was mentioned in the film by Shaws father. I worry that Ridley didn't want to fully get rid of that idea so he threw it in this film. If it is some foreshadowing or just an interesting quote who the hell knows, but I hope she goes there.

I think when you have Ridley Scott going on about Paradise in his recent interviews then you know that is going to be the center piece of any sequel. Basically, I think, we are talking however Ridley spins Paradise (or maybe garden of Eden as a better way of thinking about it) into a SciFi film. Since in English literature Paradise is dealt with by Milton in the classic Paradise Lost , maybe we are talking Ridley spinning out some of these ideas of this poem into his movie. When great directors start talking concepts I think they frequently "borrow" ideas from literature or arts, and when Ridley starts banging on about Paradise in every interview he does at the moment you start to think where his mind is wandering to.
