HAL 9000
MemberOvomorphJun-12-2012 7:18 PMHi all,
I just had an idea after watching Prometheus the second time. We all know by now that Weyland is Vickers's father and that for unknown reasons she hates him, in fact wants him to die! The reason for that could well be that Weyland once had a son, which he always preferred to Vickers, but eventually lost him, only then to model the android series 'David' based on his appearance, to get him back into his life...
Why otherwise would Vickers hate him so much? Any thoughts on this?
EDIT: another possibility (pointed out by our lovely member patch) is that Weyland created David because he incarnates a son he never had but always wanted, which would also make Vickers understandably jealous and disgusted.
Furthermore, it would justify the casting of Guy Pearce and the reason why Fassbender (David) is kept for that so desperately needed sequel (I know, we don't need a reason to keep David as there are thousands)
David 1
MemberOvomorphJun-12-2012 7:22 PMalso would account on Weylands remark of David having "no Soul".
Great thinking HAL me boy

MemberOvomorphJun-12-2012 7:24 PMShe wants his throne and he wont give it up, he wants immortality and she thinks he's soft for thinking it 'king has his reign...etc.'
She's legitimately next in line for Weyland Corp. and she's scared cos David is getting inside info and directives and she isnt, he trusts a robot over his own daughter.
Some past bitterness between them anyway - the tone of her voice when she says 'Father'
also when Weyland clenches his fist
She is the one thing that challenges his quest for ultimate power

MemberOvomorphJun-12-2012 7:31 PMChr1s - pretty much on the nose.
Notice when the hologram Weyland comes out to the briefing.
He says that David is the closest thing to his son.
He says that Shaw and Holloway are in charge.
His DAUGHTER is right there, completely unacknowledged. You can see that she bristles with anger when he says these things. She later has a straight vodka.
Her father will never let her inherit the company, and she will always be under his control.

MemberOvomorphJun-12-2012 7:32 PMThis is a plausible theory. Vickers could be an undesired daughter, maybe the first attempt to replace a lost son (but with a biological one).
Certainly, the fact that Weyland prefers David over Vickers has to have its roots in his past (though it is not necessary, as in Prometheus not many things are logic or make sense, anyway)
Additionally the difference in age between Vickers and Weyland is enormous (he might as well be her grandfather).
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born.
Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

MemberOvomorphJun-12-2012 7:43 PMGood thinking there Noxyfoxy! But then again, Pearce's make-up is so crap that I thought it implies not just age, but also some kind of desease Weyland is suffering from.
At least Vickers and David appear to be of the same 'age', obviously for David's part just in appearance there... so my theory might well work, to be seen in the sequel (hopefully next week or so, LOL)!
