Very nice thread ty for posting.
This was discussed here and it's amazing and probably what you are talking about. -->Parallels between Prometheus and At the mountains of madness...

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 11:13 PMi did notice the stone and wondered what it was all about since it is never really mentioned, only seen briefly. i am somewhat familiar with Lovecraft but im not sure what the reference to the stone is, i am actually in the middle of reading a collection of his short stories so maybe ill find it as i get through them. i do know that Giger was very influenced by Lovecraft and im pretty sure thats why he styles his name with his first and middle initial, in homage (i could be wrong but i seem to remember reading that somewhere ages ago). im not sure if Mr. Giger had much involvement in this film (i heard he did the murals and i see some of his old designs from dune and alien are sort of used here) but perhaps Mr. Scott is also influenced by some of that material. i have always felt there was a mild connection, ever since i saw the original "engineer/space jockey" in the first film it sort of reminded me of Lovecraft. even more now that we have prometheus with its ancient alien "gods"

AdminPraetorianJun-09-2012 11:20 PMWell, Giger did illustrate a book called Necronomicon.

Did you get any info on the stone????
I recall a few Lovecraft stories where a "green stone" was mentioned.

MemberOvomorphAug-12-2012 10:53 PMI'm pretty sure they found a dais with a green stone on it in Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness. Which both, The Thing, and Prometheus seemed to be based on - to the point where Guillermo del Toro canceled filming At the Mountains of Madness because Prometheus was too similar.
I've brought this Lovecraft connection up in another thread, as well. Plus Giger based a ton of his designs on H.P. Lovecraft's work and also professionally changed his name to H.R. Giger, to emulate H.P. Lovecraft.
Take a gander at these two pages:

Some of these entries sound awful familiar.
I can't wait to see what they throw at us in PARADISE.
