I wanted to talk about it with some friends - we'd all seen it, and we ended up watching a bad camera rip. I don't recommend it, but being able to comment and question while watching was very instructive - repeated viewing really brings home just how bad the script and story of Prometheus really are. Another was how much the movie comments on itself, and in the crudest way, from those really helpful jockey home movies that spring up in place of actual detective work to the wordy plot dump between Stringer Bell and the Staple Sister.
What struck me this time was just how *passive* the action is. Things happen to humans, around humans, but with the exception of writing off a billion dollar spacecraft, no one actually seems to to *anything*, or equally importantly anything *right*. It's an adventure movie where no one faces down the enemy.

MemberOvomorphJun-07-2012 5:40 PMi saw it 2 times ...and the second was even better .... about the "right" things to do , its always easy to see the "right" things to do about others , until we watch back and we see how many stupid things we have done in our life ....

MemberOvomorphJun-07-2012 5:45 PMYo. After i spent MONTH DAILY in this forum and was NOT able to AWAIT till it finally COMES, i was also "not amused" about some aspects of the quality.
I think the production team gave all they had - but i speculate
1. studio forced em to cut it to PG13 so some important scenes are missed?
2. lindelof hypnotized scott for month so the master accepted a dumb script
Most Problems i have with
- one-dimensional people, you dont have ANY empathy for them when they die
- really strange, unhuman behavior of em all mostly. Rapace/Shaw operates herself in Madame Fickers "privat" room (without anybody recognizing what is going on in that apartement on the spaceship... he?=)
- after self-operation is done, rapace/shaw stands up (yeah, she gave all she had and she did it fine from acting point of view..) and she goes to another room. And voila - a little "eternal life party" is going on there with (surprise surprise) an peter weyland with awfull not authentic "old man"-mask and they do some smart conversation. NOT ANYBOdY asks shaw where this blood comes from and what happens to her. strange people.

MemberOvomorphJun-07-2012 6:11 PMThis is not an alien movie at all. I think you may have gone into it expecting the wrong thing. This takes place in the alien universe and there is even a scene at the end for the fanboys, but a new storyline and new direction.
I doubt you will see the xenos in any sequel. The new mystery now surrounds the goo and the engineers. The people who went into this thinking it was a alien prequel did not pay attention to rs saying at least 30 times it was not, just the same universe.
He simply used an old vehicle to jump start a new one. I would suggest any alien prequels or sequels will have the word alien in them. This is something new!

I should have said 'It is an action movie where no one faces down the enemy'.
