MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 3:29 PMbah I dont know...it's weaknesses are too great for it to ever become a classic
After 15 years will AVP:R become a classic? no..same thing here I think
I think it would benefit HUGELY from a recut, some stuff really needs to go, and some needs to be added to close plotholes

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 3:29 PMIt is not a good film because, well, it isn't. End of. It is just a film. There is nothing cerebral in there to let it age well with time. Sorry.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 3:32 PMI think it's definitely a possibility, it all depends on what people did not like about the movie. From all the reviews I've read through it does not seem like anyone found the movie to be boring so that is a good sign, all things considered. Many people even said they wanted the film to be longer, and, from what I know of truly bad movies, you want them to be over as soon as possible. I have not seen the movie yet so I cannot say with certainty if it simply failed to live up to the massive hype or is actually a bad movie like some are saying.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 3:35 PMI know it's silly but let me make a wish: I wish that Ridley Scott were aware of the negative reaction of a considerable part of the audience that have already watched the movie in Europe, and releases a re-cut version of Prometheus in America :-)

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 3:39 PMYou maybe right there is a chance that this movie will grow on me and I hope it will but 1st impressions are usually right a lot of people think I'm a knob at 1st glance and they're right most of the time
I just feel the movie could've have been so much more an epic sci fi movie for this generation
I wanted something iconic something similar to alien that answered the questions that were asked in 79 like this movie set out to be but lost its way
I am seeing Prometheus again over the coming days at quiet screening without the wife with me this time I hope it can grow on me I really do or the toys are going out the pram
I will look forward to reading your thoughts on the movie over the coming week I hope you aren't as disappointed as I was
Xenotron
MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 3:45 PMI haven't seen the movie either, but I'd be upset if I opened up ANY toy only to find pieces missing and/or broken.
In that sense, your toy analogy still works.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 3:50 PMI'd be interested to know from the people who didn't care for it if they would feel the same way if the Alien movies didn't exist for arguements sake.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 4:11 PMAll the nitpicking and self-important ego-filled whining reeks of Aspergers' Syndrome. Yeah, it was a great movie, not perfect, I was expecting more from some elements but the net result was good.

Yes would definetly think of it differently in my mind i had built this up into Ridleys return to the genre he created and expected an epic iconic movie which Prometheus definely had the potential to be
If alien hadn't existed I dare say I would have liked Prometheus a lot more than I did but a world without alien what a sad place that would be

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 5:11 PMFor me, I was 18 when I saw Alien. I thought it was incredible, awe-inspiring, thought-provoking, etc. I didn't have internet, cell phone, or even cable TV at the time. There's no way that I'm going to see this movie with the expectation of that same WOW factor.
BUT...For this film to garner the amount of positive, professional critic praise it has thus far, means to me..."I'm gonna love it".

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 5:22 PMI'm a huge Alien fan and have been on these boards for a while. From day one i have been telling people that prometheus is not an Alien prequel and thoses that expect Prometheus to end with Alien will be disappointed. With that in mind I went to see the movie with open eyes.
Prometheus sucks because it's poor movie, it sucks worse because it's set in the alien universe. If you haven't seen the movie then don't judge me. If you have seen it and liked it good for you.
I have nothing positive to say about Prometheus other than it had a few good moments. Most of it was 2 hours of disjointed plot holes that went nowhere. By the time the film finished I was happy to leave.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 6:43 PMDo you think it's possible that you were "spoiled" (web) to the point where you went into the theatre with too many preconceived notions about the film? I have read some reviews that were not 100% satisfied, but none were 100% dissatisfied. I'm sorry it didn't live up to your expectations. I'm hoping for a much more positive experience.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 7:28 PMI seem to remember the same thing happened when Blade Runner was released, the audience hated it because it required them to think, plus it wasn't action packed enough, like Rambo (bleugh!) nor did it show a happy future. I thought the film was excellant much the same as I do this movie and thinks that modern society today sets the bar too high on expectations. we've become spoilt having seen or experienced every type of plot twist, special effect, monster or genre.
my point is that had this film been released not now or thirty years ago when films were suffering the same critical abuse for a lack of understanding of new ideas but at some point midway between 1982 and 2012 the audiences reviews would possibly be one of awe instead of mockery. whatever happened to just suspending belief and enjoying the movie

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 7:30 PMThe States won't receive a re-cut...
But, if this theatrical release was "tampered with" there may be a different cut on some future blu-ray, etc.
I'm definitely getting the feeling (not having seen the film yet) that there are basically 4 types of people/attitudes showing up here and throwing in their 2¢:
1) I was expecting to love it, and I did.
2) I wanted to love it, but it's "just OK."
3) I wanted to love it, but it's not fantastic, so I'm angry. So I *hate* it.
4) I (secretly) wanted it to fail and it's not perfect, so I'm loving bashing it.
Of course, I'm generalizing.
I'm *likely* (but certainly not guaranteed) to fall into category 1 or 2 above after seeing it. That's just how I am.
Professional (detached) reviewers have said that it's not perfect. I'm relatively confident that it's not perfect. But, I'm hopeful that there are things in it that I will find intriguing that they didn't pick up on. I'm also patient. I've essentially been waiting for the prequel to the prequel all along. My interest is in the culture of the Engineers. That backstory is there whether it's elucidated in this film or not. I can take it that that might not come for several years.
This film just has to get the next one green-lighted.
Welcome to Hollywood.
Endure/enjoy the show. It's up to you.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 7:59 PMLike my views on ALIEN 3 and ALIEN RESURRECTION (in *either* of their cuts), I can only say that the things I liked about the movie, I'll *always* like...but the things I didn't, I'll *always* dislike.
But as some of those things I disliked were so fundamental to what I hoping for (and would *require* a sequel to cover certain things a little more satisfactorily...then unfortunately, my review will need to go into the '(Disliked)' section when I get around to it.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 9:47 PMits waaaay to sketchy! goes back and forth and too fast paced thats what i took from it. I kinda knew this would happen as the subject matter of the whole film cannot be explained in 2 hours with build up a middle then and end..characters have no depth, u just dont give a shit! and are left with WHY? and WTF?! at the same time...as a stand alone film it could work to a younger generation...i think I will get more from it 2nd time round, but scary or cringe worthy it is not, the the disturbing Audio! is much worse than anything in the film.
asks more Qs then it answers, which is what they wanted thats why ppl are not happy with this and that is EXACTLY what they wanted. I think alot of us on here have set ourselves or did set ourselves up for a fall with all the speculation, spoilers, teasers, trailers etc.
Will be watchin it again on Sunday though and re post

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 10:12 PMThis board, the internet, the massive amount of information at our fingertips - they're all great but if you ask me, it's nigh on impossible to make a movie that the majority of fans will love.
Alien was groundbreaking and genre forming at a time when the only way to hear about a film was to read the paper, see a film review programme or talk to someone who had seen it. There are so many differences of opinion here, and Alien touched people in so many ways that RS was faced with an impossible task.
I just think people expected too much of this movie. As a stand-alone movie, this is the best sci fi horror movie to come out in a long long time.
As a movie in the Alien franchise - it has many flaws, but that doesn't make it a bad movie.
Reading this forum, you would swear that everyone thinks it's a shit movie - but I bet the majority of cinema fans love it ... why? Because they haven't spent the last 30-odd years dissecting the rock formations on LV426 or any of the countless other topics that die-hard Alien fans discuss.
Most cinema-goers will find the imagery stunning, some of the scenes breath-taking and the movie, overall, bloody enjoyable.
Give me Prometheus anyday, over the churned out super-hero crap that seems to hit the cinema screens on a monthly basis. Saw Avengers recently and fell asleep after the millionth scene of mindless monster bashing.
Rant over ;-)

MemberOvomorphJun-03-2012 3:31 AMI highly doubt the movie is bad as everyone says it is. I think they are overly critical and expect way too much as usual.

MemberOvomorphJun-03-2012 5:11 AMHi there,
Before I saw it, I was hoping that it'd grow on me afterwards if I was disappointed with it.
But I LOVED it!
Now I'm worried that the shine will diminish over time. The second time I saw the Matrix I was a bit unimpressed. I'd seen it all, grasped the concept, enjoyed seeing how it 'turned out/what happens next' - after that there wasn't much to enjoy except effects.
If a film is good all round, you can repeatedly enjoy the script and performances way after you know 'what happens next'. I think Fassbender's performance in the film might give it real sticking power. He was just excellent. Noomi was terrific - I really sympathised with her. Fifield - excellent but brief.

MemberOvomorphJun-03-2012 10:06 AMLooking at the alien-fans who hated prometheus 2 things strike me:
1) the comparisons between Prometheus and AvP and 2) the complaints about the lack of cerebral challenges.
1) Comparing Prometheus to AvP is not a sign that these people are clueless about movies. It's an emotional outburst and within the cult nothing expresses distaste more than a comparison with the hated AvP movies.
2) Is more puzzling, but I suspect its the result of the endless debates and theories within the cult. One the one hand one complains that Prometheus is so much poorer than Alien, one the other one complaints Prometheus is not cerebral enough. All the while Prometheus has more food for thought and speculation in 20 minutes than we see in 2 hours of Alien (not that this makes Prometheus a better movie). Prometheus is however not the slowpaced psychological horrormovie.....Prometheus is a fast-paced science fiction movie.

MemberOvomorphJun-03-2012 3:47 PMFor those who think that the problem is in the people that don`t like the movie because there is many new ideas. Understand once and for all there is no new ideas, and it doesn`t require to think. It requer not to think in that case probably you`ll like it.
