Saw the Movie Thursday Night and while if you look at the movie as a Stand Alone its not bad..... but far from great, some may say that its plot is good but while the idea is very very good, the execution is not good. Plots wise it may at the basics have more depth than AVP, but it executes this with less detail, well somethings not so much make sense, they just are not finished. The only way to describe it would be if the movie was say 3 hours long but you had a weak bladder and you went off to the toilet a number of times and missed parts of the movie, what you would recall is basically how this movie goes. Another 45 mins giving some kind of ending to some parts (and i am not on about the end of the movie) and it could have worked. The movie is not open ended, its points to a sequel which can go in one of two ways.. Without being too spoilerish, it would be like say the end of Alien or Aliens you see the Xeno end up landing on a planet and living, while still then having the other part of the ending. There are a lot of cast members who we think we would see more of a story with who we do not, so its just about Shaw and David really. Its not like the others are cannon fodder, because the death scenes are well very disapointing hey they would get PG13 lol.... So the action/death scenes there are not a lot, and what there is its kind of like say having a Nightmare on Elm Street or the Thing lol and having to cut the action/death scenes to be a PG-13 with a little more blood. Its not the lack of gore, its just the scenes are very disapointing..... you would know what i mean if you saw them i.e Fifield scene. Theres not much more going on than you already seen. Visually the movie is good, the scenes look fantastic, the scence of depth in 3D is great. Speciall Effect wise such as explotions, gorre etc, this movie is far from ground breaking. I am not picking at this movie because of the Alien link.... because i can see a fair bit but some of it its due to interpretation only Janek comes up with the idea that they stumbled upon the Engineers secret testing military facility for their Bio Weapons... this combined with David 8 finding out they was going to Earth gives you idea behind what their plan was..... But not why..... The Alien links are not direct, best way i can put it is if you take Star Wars. And some watch Phantom Menance and then go... "that was crap, where was the Storm Troppers, where was Vader i want to see Vader" Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith give the Empire and Vader fans their wishes... And i do think a Prometheus 2 has potentially, but it needs to add more depth to the way the story is told and not mish mashed... Oh as far as Alien DNA....... Yes you see it in that last 8 mins, one by the method of one Organism and the other more Xeno DNA but not exact.

XENO XENO XENO!!! What the f**k is this obsessiveness with the bloody Xeno - the creature gets on my tits! It is a small part of a larger Universe that we are now being introduced to...

Spot on Big Dave. I was very dissapointed. Visual wise YES the film was good and watching it in 3D was better than 2D, but overall it just lacked in so many areas and the acting at times was well..... comical at times. It seemed rushed as well in parts and whilst you still understood what was going on etc.. there could have been alot more thought put into it. Stand alone film??? yer ok I get it, but just didn't do it for me at all. Didn't live up to the hype and regardless of me tracking the film through this site and everyone's thoughts and visions on it, I think we ALL came up with a better storey line etc... than what we actually got. Sorry Ridley..... I think you failed us!!!

I was not expecting Alien..... But i think the story was good in its scope, just not how it was executed. they basically had a plot that needed 3 hours that was crammed into a 2 hour movie. The thing is those who saw the last 8 mins, well if Ridley wants something new, well the one thing if they visit would lead to doing a Xeno ish Organism over again.... maybe this was a nod so we see this thing and think.... ok so they may had created something simular years prior and thats our Xeno... Where does this story go i ask...... how would they fit earth and Weyland into it......? So number 2 would have to be about Engineers then, which is a good thing to explore but how they do a movie about them with no Humans is going to be something interesting how they pull it off. As far as the other potential creations from the Black Goo Fire, yes potential is there but we saw it not amount to much in the movie, but the scope is there for number 2.

@BigDave The only way movie two can work now is if it focuses on Shaw and David simply because of the plot holes that exist otherwise. Through the magic of Hollywood's magical fairies - "dear fairies, what do I do when they land on the planet to get some link to a 30 year old classic because fucked if I knew or cared when I made the first one, it was just an evil killing thing" - they'll wind up landing on LV-426 on for 'maintenance' of some bullshit and David'll end up sending a transmission back to Wayland, which is the REAL reason why the Nostromo could even know that there was a lifeform to collect, it knew before they even started the mission - provided we allow for physics of this universe to apply and thus it would take a hell of a lot longer for communications with Earth as implied by the first Alien - and that original Engineer is probably Shaw who set off the quarantine / keep away transmission Ripley and co believed they found by mistake... or something.

I think Ridley failed us plain and simple. Honestly, if like mentioned a number of people from this site were able to speculate on a story that was better than that what was seen then we know what we saw was a very poor effort. Reading the details around the assembly cut of alien3 and some of the concepts that were dropped from the original film we got to see a few of the ideas re-hashed, the coccooning face huggers, the godly concepts and even the issue of 'infecting' people with alien DNA to affect their behaviours, but still this felt as though the writers were not sure whether they could keep the audience entertained with one point of focus so that decided to tell us about 3. What was the black goo liquid and what exactly was it doing? Who was the engineer, what was his original mission, why was he so mad and then what was Noomi's off spring? All the vickers, weyland, expedition story line was just a side show that when they were running out of time they concluded with one getting his head ripped off the other dying from a bump to the head and one getting crushed in the space of 5 mins! Felt like spiderman 3 to me, too many characters too many focal points yet no explanation, therefore ultimately a mess of a film!

NOT ONLY THAT BUT YOUR REVIEW IS CLEARLY BIASED STUPID AND INSULTING TO ANYONE ANYWHERE ON THIS PLANET THAT KNOWS A DAMN THING ABOUT HOW FILMS ARE MADE !!! Well you know Spartacus.... Its such a shame that you have to result in this, manner i had a lot of respect for you.. and still do. This is not a attack on Ridley Scot, but by the same token the way you seem to have responded is how some do when people question the Bible. I have not said the movie was poor, you want us all to have the same view on the movie as you, some enjoy it some will hate it... Tell me where i used the term.... I HATE THIS MOVIE.... I did not.... and why do you need to shout for? All i have said is that it is a shame that they seemed to me, and it may be seen differently by others.... yourself included. But to me, its as if they had some great plot that was built up in depth and detail right untill after Shaw and Holloways love scene. Its then that they had so many parts of the movie and so many ideas that within the limit of the movie, they could not pull off the details they needed to make the movie flow. I have not and i am not complaining because the Engineer at the end does not get his coupants while he is in the Pilot Chair.... as this would be a Direct link to Alien... Nope my negative comments are not that the movie is pants, i never said it was.... i just feel that had it been 3 hours they could have given more depth to certain points.. 1) Vickers and Weyland their relationship and Agenda. 2) The infection of the Black Goo. 3) Some backbone to the Engineers plans. If you read again...... Not Bad....... (means movie is not as bad as some make out) Wasted Opputinity (means i feel that had Ridley had 40 mins longer, he could have got more detail behind certain aspects, the 1st 3rd flowed nice, then after that some parts seemed rushed because the scope of the story and plot had more to it that needed more time than was given). Potential..... (means the movie has potential to explore the story and it can go two ways.... Weyland Corp get Shaws Message, and send mission to LV 426 and come across the Organism that bursted out of the Engineer..... or follow Shaw and Davids trip to meet our makers). So again please please do not take any offence.... These are just my views, you dont agree well your not alone, but then some will not agree with you, i dont think that reacting in a negative way is the way to go. The way to go is explain and debate the ideas you loved about this movie.... You see Phantom Menance was a disapointment, it spent far to much time on boy Anakin and had other elements that was disapointing.... But Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith was better.... Prometheus 2 could thus be much better and by that i dont mean by linking with Alien, if feel that seeing where Shaw and David end up and what the Engineers have to say to them has a lot of interest in it.

Everything in the original Alien was a mystery. So why care too much about all the details. As long as its a good ride. The alien movies are a good ride. Enjoy it for what it is. If you want detail whatch sci fi TV. I think the small stuff is great. for example in Alien the fucked up piolt seats, brett rolling cigarettes the crackly radios when they land. you know the small stuff. sci fi aesthetic.. sit there and imagine what its like. be a kid when you watch the films. its fantasy. and that is very liberating. and fun. You guys are way to serious and spoiling it for yourselves.

Good to see Spartacus responding with a good old flick speckled rant complete with the usual CAPS lock, implied threats and personal insults. As he acts like an angry pre-pubescent boy, incapable of forming coherent logical arguments, I can't help but feel he is gong to absolutely love Prometheus.
