A cinematically stunning piece of work yet the story fell short and felt rushed seems to be the opinion of many here. I love you guys here and this forum and have been here since the forum started and I was so excited to here 3 years ago Scott pursued the Alien Universe once more. Yet, as I write this, I feel somewhat let down as many of you do, there was just so much in this universe that could have been expanded and explained and like I said, time an length of the film should of been longer, just like Avatar and other films that go into three hour lengths. What I feel and coming from working in the film industry, was the foundation has been laid for the sequel, yet, we are left hanging but for how long?
This door has been cracked open and we wanted to see what was inside the room but the writers felt, they would play a "Lost" scenario on us and leave us only with a glimpse of this dark and beautiful universe. The mice and men part in the title of this thread refers to the writers, like many, I felt Damon gave it a try but to be honest, too young, just wants to be hip and cool and still riding off the Coat Tails of famed mysterious director, JJ Abrams and Spaith's who really does not have huge and viable writing credit. Yet they were chosen by Scott to help with the story. Perhaps after the film is released, Scott's ears will turn to the net to people like you guys, who are the people who keep this story alive and going...
The Meat and Potatoes of this story were rushed into a 2 hour film, Yes, Alien was longer but I expected this film not to be 1979 Alien. I am rather happy Scott did this film and returned to this universe yet, at 2 hours, we are just seeing the top of the iceberg and not what lies below. There is and was so much more that could have been added to this film to enhance it. I still support Scott and hope that he reconsiders for the future of this universe.
Lastly, I love writing and I am hoping, perhaps like many of you I hope Damon is replaced, I think he is just on the coat tails of Scott and riding the waves of Fame, "look at me, I'm cool now because I wrote and Alien story", I would like to see some veteran writers who know SCI-FI and can bring this dark, scary universe together into something, that we, the fans have come to love and adore, heck, because of Alien, I was inspired to be a film maker.
So, thats my take....I am happy to see Shaw now become the new character but I am worried that the writers will exploit her and she will lose all dimensions.
Thanks Guys! You all rock! Party On!
