1) obviously the plot: there are holes so big I can put an entire SJ in it. All the characters are just there to die and I couldn't care any less. 2) What was the message of the film? Some things are better left unexplored? Yeah...but, why? There just is NOTHING... this movie depends on a sequel and that is lame. 3) The ending: been there, seen that in avp, really wanted to take a shovel then and bury my beloved alien. 4) To start-up the 'derelict' you need to play a tune on a flute...REALLY??? 5) The montage reminded me of a michael bay Transformers movie sometimes. A lot of special effects, but it happens so fast you never get a good look at it. 6) Cuddles looked like some giant turd when it impregnated the SJ. 6) If they were to do a sequel it would " further tangelize from the original alien." What has that epic critter ever done to us that we needed to treat it like this. Alien was a great movie because they kept it nice and simple. PROMETHEUS tries to tackle so many ideas but never goes into detail. It's the complexity of the plot that kills the movie. It should have just been a straight-forward remake or something. Now I don't even know what it is.

I don't think the plot was complex at all. It becomes complex if you try to think about the connection with Alien, that's all. Also, special effects are not there for you to watch on slo-mo, in real-life when accidents happen you can't take pictures... How is the ending close to AVP?

I disagree. It's not Alien and that's a good thing It does not need a sequel.

@blood Yeah, but wasn't that the point? All prometheus did was take the design from the alien films, why was it even tied to alien in the first place? About the SFX: there's no accounting for tastes, but I personally prefer the slower build-up rather than the in your face you can't make out what's going on way of shooting a scene, like the hammerpede-scene. It felt chopped. The ending: c'mon, you have also seen the predalien, right? Another example: The last godzilla-egg in the movie from 1998, it's just such a terrible cliché.

I think my biggest problem is that this was the movie that was supposed to open up many doors on the themes of creation and existentialism but seems like it is going to be your standard big-budget summer blockbuster. There is also a big difference between unanswered questions that result from complexity and unanswered questions that result from a vacuum. It seems like many of the questions the audience has are a result of a lack of information about what is going on and do not serve a higher purpose. The questions are the same type of questions television viewers had when watching Lost (who are the others? who is jacob? why is there a list? why can't women have children on the island? why can jacob live forever? what is the ancient alien civilization that built the temple and the teleportation wheel? why is there a bunker with random numbers? why did the explosion of the bunker give Desmond time travel powers? what is the smoke monster and why can it become different people? what is the grand plan of the island?) The Lost forums were also filled with theories and speculation after the last episode just like the Promotheus forums (complete with fanboys and Lindelof apologists).

Fans that still expect or want a straight Alien prequel after ALL that was said and done to let everyone know that Prometheus is not that make me go a big rubbery one.

No wants an Alien prequel, they just want a movie that doesn't frustrate the audience with giant plot holes, shallow characters, and almost no information about what is going on.
make me go a big rubbery one
I... guess that's some sort of European expression? Or maybe a ROBOT expression! :O I have two things to say to you, gimmeafacehug: 1. The predburster and proto-alien share a similar situation in that there's a mandate for each creature to appear in their respective film, and you can bet there would be outrage if they weren't there. Thing is (a microscopic organism that can perfectly copy the cells of any living thing), in both films, they don't really have a place in the main story. For Prometheus, it seems like Ridley didn't want an overt alien mucking up the rest of the story with connections he felt the story didn't need, so he put the monster at the end to make sure it doesn't actively change anything. 2. You must be confused, there's no Godzilla movie from 1998. There's one from 1995 (Godzilla vs. Destroyah, where he dies and Junior grows up and blah blah blah) and one from 1999 (Godzilla 2000, with Orga and... all that weird business), but none from 1998. There was a Mothra movie (the one where Leo fights KG), but I think you're talking about Zilla. And I highly endorse any even mildly negative thing anyone can say about Zilla. Zilla is worse than Hitler, true story. Also, there's a montage? Is it set to groovy 80's music while Shaw trains for the champeenship to save the Youth Center?

@Ripley McPreviouscharacter he is talking about the huge blockbuster Godzilla film in 1998 directed by Roland Emmerich.

@ Ripley. about the 'proto-alien': If they didn't know what to do with it, they shouldn't have put this in the movie, plain and simple. It's cliché, period. About the 'montage': 'we need a mointage...montage...yeah, a montage... you know, Team America...what I meant was that the pacing in various scenes felt...wrong

I completely understand that it's a cliché and usually sucks. I didn't experience it that way oddly. I think that's because this kind of cliché is usually used to say "it ain't finished, watch for the sequel" or "problems never die" or even "bigger troubles are coming". This is not the case here, the scene was just there to show there's a link to Alien. But I agree, it's totally superfluous and creates some confusion. I'd rather have imagined that nothing would come out of the engineer, that he just dies. To know that there's somehow a link between this xeno, that took many steps to be created, and the xeno represented on the mural behind the giant head, that's too complicated. The pacing right before and after the medpod scene was odd. They were all together, and as soon as she faints it's like she's all alone and no one gives a shit about her. The medpod scene itself is fantastic!

@ Drakeequation - I totally agree with you! Here's my take on the whole thing just based off of what you guys - the ones who have seen the film - have said: I didn't want the connection to be some 'alien' bursting out of an engineer's belly. That seems so forced and contrived. What I really wanted to see was something that connected the dots from the first film, or rather, the "why" behind the derelict found on LV-426. Who knows? We may still get that...eventually.

@Drakeequation You said it all... nice and simple. @Azalard Simply put... the Engineer could have gotten impregnated, let Shaw be afterwards, gone to the second ship and left. Shaw could have seen the aline craft leave, have a "oh no earth is doomed dialogue" where David says something profound in response. Finally Shaw could send a message to Earth warning them of impending doom" FILM ENDS. Still a stressful ending... no resolution, BUT we all know that ship never reaches Earth... and we don't even NEED to see what happens to it to activate our imagination and leave some mystery... That's just one of MANY ways it could have ended, and that's IF you wanted to connect the dots between to two films.

@ azalard, exactly, I couldn't care less if there wasn't any alien in the movie, as long as the story's OK. I went into theatres with an open mind, but came out baffled. If there's going to be a sequel, they better rewrite all the wrongs.

@ Drakeequation I believe I was pretty clear about this: there is no Godzilla movie from 1998. What your thinking of is a Zilla movie. As in, the monster is that movie is named Zilla. Kitamura needed an official name for it since it appeared in GFW, and he named it after some chinese bootlegs. For reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zilla (yeah it's wikipedia, but it seems legit from what I read) What I said about the proto-alien being essential was just that: it had to be in the movie, and it doesn't matter how many times Ridley said he wanted to do something different, he introduced it as an alien prequel, and you can't just ignore that. You can't re-neg on something like that, not when you're Ridley Scott. Not on THIS movie. Now, Prometheus 2 will be completely fresh, it having been well established as a spin-off and there being no expectations of it being an alien prequel anymore. And, again, this was always going to be two films. Of course, if it were up to me, I'd write it into the freaking movie like a normal person and leave the completely new stuff for the sequel when you don't have to battle the expectations of the audience and really can do your own thing. But of course I didn't write it, some guy who did Lost did. hahaha, that was a joke. Because I suggested that someone actually WROTE Lost! XD

Yeah the ending is definately cliche'. they shouldve had a scene after the xeno birth of another sarcophagus in the crashed Juggernaut open up and you see some crazy large hand/arm reaching out. Cut to black. Or had explained in the movie the lone engineer killed all the other SJ's by deliberately trying to make himself a xeno and infected them all....it didnt work the creatures died so he put himself in cyrosleep. The humans arrive 2000 years later..wake him up...and he immediately tries to do the same thing to them. The movie plays out and in the end...the xeno coming out of him is the "NEW" him...he succeeded.....the Jockey Body was just a "suit". He heads back to the downed Juggernaut. Cut to black.
