A picture of American film by Ridley Scott, "Prometheus".
In the fashion of prequels - these episodes filmed after a saga, but are supposed to happen before - here that of Alien, the Ridley Scott film with which overthrew in 1979, the cinema of science fiction. Prometheus mark after three suites (respectively produced by James Cameron, David Fincher and Jean-Pierre Jeunet), back in control of its creator. The news in recent months, has, one imagines, is loud. But nothing compared to the film.
The speakers at the Gaumont Marignan, moreover, did not resist. While Michael Fassbender had just been pulling the head by the hands of a giant decided to destroy the Earth, the illuminated caver (Noomi Rapace) trying to save his skin, to regain his spaceship, said that the ship put gas under his eyes to the sound of loud music, the film became silent. The projection continued, then stopped. The same scenes were chained again, the sound jumped in one place. We lowered noise levels.
In the third vision, the audience knew the dialogue by heart, laughed, shouted at Fassbender to the giant blunder. Too powerful for this blockbuster room of his drunken ways found herself caught in its own trap. The sound was finally held, but the incident highlighted the kitsch of the staging.
Noise, in fact, is as visual as sound: the riot of decoration of synthesized images, special effects, spectacular plans is overwhelming, almost shocking in these times of crisis.
And it's not the scenario that could justify these excesses. Two cavers have the intuition that humanity was created by extraterrestrials. A bedridden millionaire wants to believe in this idea, not philanthropy, as we first thought, but because he hopes that the meeting with its creators will give him eternal life. It funds for this purpose a gigantic space expedition, on a ship named Prometheus. We cryopreserved two researchers and the team of mercenaries hired to lend a hand (why, we'll never know), and off you go. Arrived safely the crew discovers the traces of an advanced civilization, and comes face to face with sticky atrociously fierce raptors.
Bathed in a spiritual glue that fuses Christianity and paganism new wave, from film-packed science fiction - in 2001: A Space Odyssey, Star Wars, Wall E, the Zombie, Romero, to Mars Attacks, A. I. .. - This film does nothing singular. The few interesting leads that contains the script (latent conflicts between mercenaries and researchers or between them and the billionaire) to remain in draft form.
It is always a question of atmosphere in Prometheus (the air is breathable it or not). The trouble is that the film is sorely lacking. There is nothing left of what was, thirty years ago, the success of Alien, his unique style - the strangeness that pervaded the air, containment, murky light, paranoia, personality Ellen Ripley ... In the role of good little soldier paid to run the cash machine, Ridley Scott following his roadmap referred to purely commercial. Its mission: Alien reactivate the license and give the viewer a copy of what he loved. Neither more nor less.
The film stars anyway, thanks to the know-how. With their look of sexual organs hermaphrodite giants, aliens are well done, let's face it. Their presence merely extend the program of previous films, but with an undeniable increase in the effectiveness of the action, a few visual ideas quite beautiful ... And thanks to Michael Fassbinder, who plays a human-robot movie buff not so far, basically, the sex addict he played in Shame, Steve McQueen. Early in the film, we see his image on the tracing of Peter O'Toole. That this being is looking pure surface of a deep drawing from the cinema was a great idea. That there either was not exploited.

Movie poster Prometheus HISTORY: Ridley Scott, director of "Alien" and "Blade Runner", finds the world of science fiction he is one of the boldest pioneers. With PROMETHEUS, he created a mythology without precedent, in which a team of explorers discovers a clue to the origin of mankind on earth. This discovery leads them into a fascinating journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, a terrifying confrontation that will decide the future of humanity lies ahead.
A centerpiece in the Alien mythology.
Since the fourth feature film Alien directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet in 1997, fans of the HR Giger's creature have simply two crossovers involving other belligerent aliens. With Prometheus, the franchise draws from the source of its many mysteries and allows Ridley Scott to reconnect with science fiction and metaphysical themes at the heart of Alien and Blade Runner passenger. A prequel rooted in mythology, as a new piece to the monstrous edifice already in place. Who are we? Where we come from? How far will the saga?
Between elk kubrickiens sound design and chiaroscuro of the technological environment, Prometheus does not take long to capture the ineffable, the mysteries of the mission and the first cracks of each character. The feature film, based on round-trips between two enclosed spaces, suffers no lack of taste in terms of artistic direction. The first minutes are also a model of dazzling graphics and dramatic rate. In this world techno-twilight, characters do not convince everyone. The central figure of Prometheus, is above all Elizabeth Shaw, a worthy successor to Ellen Ripley. Thirty years after Sigourney Weaver, Noomi Rapace vampirizes screen, imposing fragility and fighting in the same spirit of survival. The actress has a cult scene, a part of Amazon and confirms that it can be a fiction of this magnitude alone. If Charlize Theron and others try to extricate themselves from their archetypal characters without any real success, Ridley Scott still manages his stroke with a robot serving people in addition to a classic favorite themes of the filmmaker.
Ridley Scott's Prometheus
By finding the figure of the Replicant and continuing to question the limits of artificial intelligence and uniqueness of the human soul, the director imposes in the characterization of his character as much as it disappoints in its treatment of universal questions . In omniscient guide, the android David is like the first echo of its kind, long before Ash (The Eighth Passenger) and Call (Alien Resurrection). Worthy representative of the tradition of children of Dr. Frankenstein and Dr. Eldon Tyrell (Blade Runner), this new robot with human appearance is brilliantly played by Michael Fassbender, perfect in his detachment and his humanoid infinitesimal nuances of play. Ridley Scott can rely on two extraordinary talents to discuss God, Man and the original creation but if Prometheus remains an essential part of the monstrous myth, it lacks a true incarnation of poetic philosophical and theological questions raised. The film never manages to truly transcend its many topics, even if it offers the best in entertainment spectacular and visceral. Ridley Scott is a great director of claustrophobia and the dramatic tension, combining intelligence about the excesses and aesthetic brilliantly. We therefore expected a movie Titan, we must be content with a very great work of science fiction that may grow as a "facehugger" pending further transfer.
