MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 6:22 AMA good ole...you had the whole effing planet to land on and you pick the valley with the forbidden tombs with the traps and the storms and creepy murals and the bio-mechanoid parasites and the tech treasures and the horse shoe ship.
Thanks but no thanks.
Frantz
MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 6:46 AM@Proxy ....they were looking for that ..its not a crash landing ... they were looking for signs of a civilization , and a modern spaceship surely can scan the surface .

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 6:49 AMIs the rest of the planet deserted?
I mean, even if it's an old dead civilisation, the planet doesn't look like it ever thrived.
unless everything is built under the surface (as they can keep oxygen there? this would mean they need the same air as us to breath)
The truth will be reveiled in 9 more days!:D

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 6:50 AM@ Frantz
What if they found the graveyaerd planet of that civilisation :s

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 6:55 AMOf course can be ...the valley of Pharaons in Egypt ,,, named also the Valley of Kings is totally in the desert ( just watch photos )

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 7:09 AMi just mean, they go around the planet looking for signs, i can't imagine, those temples is the best they can find on there

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 8:01 AMcool idea. if the "tombs" hold the dna of once in power kings, the huge head in the tombs would be symbology of the sj's being keepers of their dna/tombs.

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 8:04 AM@KingMe. lol now i like the idea too haha
So 1 of the Kings (PRometheus) stranded on earth many millenia in the past, told the ppl (cave paintings etc) where he wanted to be burried after his death (starmap).

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 8:17 AMcould u imagine some highly intelligent being tring to explain something as sophisticated as a star map, to a bunch of neanderthals. he was prolly frustrated as hell. trying to tell these goons ab space and they're doing finger paintings.

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 9:02 AMInteresting theory and it makes sense as to why these things look so old and "tomb-like" ... though I'm on the fence with the biology within the tombs being a protection system or boobie-traps.

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 9:42 AM@ShinobiX9X,
"Is the rest of the planet deserted?"
Some days ago I posted one still of one of the movie´s traillers showing what I believed where a set of constructions on the planet below. But when I saw the trailler again, I realized that what I thought were constructions was only the reflection of the command station structure on the Prometheus main cabin window´s glasses. So I believe that at arrival they will scan the planet and only find the temples, or the temples are the most interesting structures they could find.
This theory would mean that actually the trend of mausoleum-construction by ancient earthiling civilizations was just acquired taste. The Engineers taught that to them. This can point to a curious twist in the plot: the fact that although much more advanced than us, the Engineers are deeply traditional in the religious sense, something usually at odds with hard SF plots. Not unheard off: the most advanced spacefaring country in Earth today is also one of the most religious countries (although the scientific elite that actually make this happen, in an intellectual sense, is much less religious).

"I'm on the fence with the biology within the tombs being a protection system or boobie-traps."
Yep, they can be anything indeed. But I think that "traps" would be the most correct answer. Unless...
Well, ancient Earth civilizations used to entomb a lot of objects and even servants to the future service of the King in the afterlife. It can be that for the Engineers the concept of a afterlife is a little bit more real than to the ancient egiptians. This could bring water to the mill of the ones that believe that someway the arriving human crew will awake, and be the food to, ressurected Engineer kings or something like that.
The mistery is, if they die, but can ressurect, why to wait for so long time? Why they don´t only make their robotic servants (if we have them, they must have them also) to cross the galaxy looking for good templates and bring than to LV-223 to complete the ressurection process? This is or a logic fault, or the proof that there are some missed elements to this theory (of course if we agree that the plot will go along these lines and not along completely different directions).

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 1:56 PMI think the boe engeeners race was on the tail end of disaster so they in effect had to put the remenants of their entire civilization in "storage" for safe keeping until such a time as the sighn would come where they would rise again as a phoenix would from the ashes and the one being stranded on Earth has carried the intelligent secret and passed it down our successive generations.
Now here we are in the future about to go there and awaken this 'dormant' race from its million year or more slumber to continue on from where they left off. Because I still think of the Space Jockey as a metaphore for the collapse of an entire race's existence and we Humans happen upon the Derilict and it's like the next successive race to infultrait even if the process takes five million years to spread itself adequately though the galaxy that we will currently inhabit at that time in the future.
