MemberOvomorphMay-17-2012 3:22 AMAs absolutley genius as the powerloader is, Im hoping it does NOT make an appearance.
I think this movie will have plenty of its own concepts to keep us all interested.

MemberOvomorphMay-17-2012 3:30 AMhmm, maybe you are right about the powerloader. Ridley scott probably doesn't want to use any of James Cameron's tricks anyways the more i think about it.

MemberOvomorphMay-17-2012 3:46 AMI doubt the pore loader will make an appearance, the fact that it's in the time line I believe is a nod to the previous movies and gives the audience a familiar feel and helps to keep the new movie art of that universe...
*I do however hope it makes a cheaky cameo... In the background somewhere!!!

MemberOvomorphMay-17-2012 4:00 AMThere's a power loader on the Weyland Industries website

MemberOvomorphMay-17-2012 4:02 AMIt looks as though the movie puts us on board the Prometheus almost near the beginning of the movie so I doubt we will see one loading the ship pre-launch. I also doubt we will see one in the ship too as trailers and set photos showing the hanger in the Prometheus don't show one.
It would be funny to see one though as it would link the movie not just to Alien but also to Aliens which would cheese off the die hard Ridley fans that think anything after Alien is non-canon.

MemberTrilobiteMay-17-2012 5:25 AMWell the Powerloader in Aliens is actually called a P-5000 Power Loader, so it is possible that we could see an earlier model in Prometheus, maybe in the background.
Regards the Alien franchise, they are all canon (including AVP IMO, but lets not get into that and derail this thread), the official website WEYLANDINDUSTRIES.com makes references not only to Aliens (Powerloader, Colonial Marines, Atmosphere Processors) but also to Alien 3 (Penal Colonies).
@ W2rh0und - The same happens in every franchise, there are hardcore Terminator fans that only consider 1 and 2 as canon. Personally I find all these canon arguments childish and futile - if another installment is added to a franchise, in the same medium/format as the original, then it exists within the same universe and is canon, unless officially stated otherwise...
- Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection are canon.
- Alien comics, books, graphic novels and video games are not canon.
- Batman comics are canon.
- Batman Begins, Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rising are not canon.
- Odd Thomas, Odd Hours, Brother Odd and Forever Odd are canon.
- The forthcoming Odd Thomas movie is not canon.
Simple. End of!

MemberOvomorphMay-17-2012 5:48 AM@Snorkelbottom: I'm glad you used the term 'personally' along your lines, as you must clearly be aware that there are plenty of people out there who do not necessarily share your strong opinion about the Alien franchise.
I for myself hope that the powerloader won't make an appearance in Prometheus, at least not in the form we've seen it in Aliens. This is some 120 odd years before and technology would have surely developed and advanced faster than it already does today.
Hopefully, this is just the marketing department having some fun, trying to get more fans on board, therefore incrasing profit. This is probably not happening under the watchful eyes of Scott or Lindelof. So, I won't be expecting to see it in the actual movie, as much as I'm a huge fan of the technology used in Aliens (I do own most of the amazing model kits from Halcyon, to prove my point..)
It would have been really nice if they'd made an effort of reverse engineering this one as well, show us an earlier version of it, but since this 'familiar face' has already made an appearance in the viral marketing my guess is that's it for our old friend.

MemberTrilobiteMay-17-2012 5:56 AMAs I just stated in another thread most fans don't subscribe to official canon, but instead they support what they like and dismiss what they don't. Personally I find it stupid - I don't like rhubarb, doesn't mean its not healthy or tasty just because I don't like it. I would never encourage someone to avoid it because of my disliking. But not everyone is open minded and objective - personality and opinions, drive a persons arguments, always have and always will.

MemberDeaconMay-17-2012 6:15 AMI think its just there as part of the Viral Campaign.....
I would expect and sequel to find some use of the Powerloaders.

MemberOvomorphMay-17-2012 6:15 AMThe whole concept of Canon is not applicable to Alien, however the term franchise is. Canon implies there was a body of work by a team or individual. That's not the case in Alien. The execs got director of the month in to milk the cash cow after Alien, so each one has raped the corpse to satisfy those execs.
Star trek and star wars had someone oversee it's original and sequels, Roddenberry advised on TNG, and I think the producers of that show were careful to operate within the trek universe.
aliens got no such protective custody, it got bled dry, to the point where the once scariest scifi baddy is now laughable.
I think Ridley begrudgingly recognises Aliens, but dismissed the rest as fan fiction.

MemberOvomorphMay-17-2012 6:20 AM@Snorkelbottom: What the hell is wrong with rhubarb?? Have you ever tried a proper rhubarb crumble or have it simply cooked soft with warm custard on top? Ha-ha! I used to hate it as a kid, but then over the years started loving it, same with spinach...
No seriously, I totally agree with you. It should be for everyone individually to decide whether they can see things fitting in with their 'personal universe' or not. After all, it's a fantasy world we're talking about, and the more artistic it is, the more difficult it is to judge, as I believe you can't really judge arts. You can critisize and analyse for sure. But who is to say it's right or wrong?
I think it's pretty much down to the original creator of a story to decide what is part of it or into which direction it should develop, and in many cases we don't ever get to know their true opinions about that. It's a really difficult and complex topic.

MemberOvomorphMay-17-2012 6:23 AM@BigDave: Agreed. I also thought that might be plausible. But then it's a shame we've already seen it in the viral, precisely looking like in Aliens.

MemberOvomorphMay-17-2012 10:53 AMI think the powerloader makes a brief cameo appearance loading ''old man Weyland '' luggage and medication. After a brief fly-by of Prometheus he was heading to Venice Beach.
takka_takka_takka
MemberOvomorphMay-17-2012 11:07 AMI agree that the loader might make a brief appearance, but I doubt it will be a plot point like in Aliens. That would be kind of cheesy.

MemberOvomorphMay-17-2012 12:31 PMI hope the AvP movies are canon..... They're better than the original 3 Alien movies.

MemberOvomorphJul-21-2012 11:28 AMi guess we can still hope with the Blue ray release if it has extra scenes in a new cut.

AVP Movies...Based on what I saw in ..AVPR: Aliens vs Predator Requiem I respect your opinion.
In watching the 'Requiem ' it was the only movie in nthe series I could not finish,, I just didn't care anymore..
I would be curious to see your Prometheus storyboard..based on the AvP movies.
