I don't buy into that , the reason they don't rip him apart is they are not hostile (At that moment)
Hell, if I'm sitting at my computer and some F**king Roomba came buzzing in that I had never seen before I'd be totally what the shit bro !!! and poke at it with something

MemberOvomorphApr-29-2012 12:30 AMI think you both have pieces of the puzzle. I'm also thinking a considerably intelligent being isn't just going to kill another lesser, but similar being on first sight. I'm thinking they hand out justice whenever appropriate though. If we're (humans) cool, they're cool. If we start acting a fool, so to speak, which is likely what happens, then the hammer drops.
And it looks like the crew has other ,slimier, things to worry about.

MemberOvomorphApr-29-2012 12:31 AMLet's begin with the premise that the Engineers entire technology and culture is based on biomechanics----YES
Let's throw in pure speculation that they have a telepathic aspect to how they communicate. (Aliens hinted at it.)----NO
They have absolutely no idea what to make of David. They can't get inside his head and they can't get inside his body, so they ignore him, he is of no use to them and he could not possibly be a threat because of who made him----No...David triggers the map room when he grabs the globe of the Earth: it reads his origin and initiates his evolution, just as it would for any being intelligent enough to travel to the planet and find their world in the map room just as David did. The "engineers" have benevolence for many species that they have visited, not just humans.
That's the only reason I can think of that they don't rip him apart in the star map room----NO ...The "engineers" respected the intellegence
that it requires to acheive interstellar travel. They are long gone from the planet, leaving the tools behind that different species would need to further evolve.

MemberOvomorphApr-29-2012 12:44 AMInteresting idea, but I don't think it takes that much for them not to instantly destroy something, like some kind of monster in a horror movie. If a camel strolled in there, would they kill it? (assuming they don't eat meat and they're not hungry/don't store food),
In the trailers, we only have one scene that can read as outright aggression towards the crew, and that's the scene where an engineer is approaching Kate Dickie. We don't know the reason. Maybe that security guy with her over-reacted on sight and started blasting away, provoking the engineer.

MemberOvomorphApr-29-2012 1:37 AMHold on, hold on... They weren't hostile towards him in the star map room? Whaaa? I saw the scene from the trailer (they're all bits and pieces, you know?), but i didn't see any engineers in there with him just going about their own business. I just saw the one walking in the room with the seat.

MemberOvomorphApr-29-2012 2:24 AMThose engineers in the star room are holograms.

MemberFacehuggerApr-29-2012 8:25 AMI know that we don't have much to go on, but it's been established that the Engineer race is not benevolent.
If any are conscious when Prometheus approaches, they make no known effort to contact them friendly or otherwise.
When the crew investigates what they believe is an archaeological dig site the results are murder or infection for every human we see come in contact with them or their "tech."
They don't even give a suspicious "Who goes there?" Their response appears to be intentional, methodical and completely callous.
Why do they ignore David? The fact that they ignore him makes it possible for him to be the savior of mankind, but will he?
David is unscathed at every turn we know of. Why?
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

MemberDeaconApr-29-2012 10:15 AMWe dont know that they ignore him, we have not seen enough of the trailers to make a accurate judgement on whats going on. It does seem to show Holograms of Jockeys but then there is one who does look to be walking with purpose.
Does that one interact with David, we dont know, are all the Engineers at that point Holograms we just dont know.
I would assume that the when the Engineers discover David they may detect that he is not the same as the rest of the crew, you would even go as far as to think the Engineers would be intrigued by David, and maybe perplexed at how we created him. They may be concerned about how far we have come.
I would assume that their civilisation has suffered some kind of problem or problems maybe they are not at the height of power they once was, and to them to see themelves on the decline maybe from some catastrophic event had occured to them. Then they notice that mankind has gone on leaps and bounds.
We like our creators can now travel the stars and create life.
I dont think they are benevolent but are maybe not as malevolent as we think, not by their thinking.
We are just maybe a experiement after all.
What if we created a hybrid Human/Ape sent it to a habital moon, then years latter they develop to find us, we would want to find out about them and we may even go as far as to start doing all kinds of tests.
If we found a Crashed Alien Ship with live crew do you think we are going to allow them 5* treatment, going to give them freedome to explore our world as tourists.
Or maybe we would run tests and use them as lab rats.
This movie implies that the crew hope to find our origins and creators and what we find are a race who are doing uncivilised things, read into that what you will.
But to me its far from a open arms welcome and make yourselves at home.

MemberOvomorphApr-29-2012 10:25 AMyou have a point. nature is very cruel and david may have some feelings but at the end of the day is just a product and he may be like ash with some hidden agenda. and I think that maybe vickers is a droid as well

MemberFacehuggerApr-29-2012 12:26 PMI only saw two real possibilities
1. They tear through him like the queen did.
2. They ignore him.
They may even see David as an abomination. Synthetic sentience may be anathema to them
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

While I did hear that, I was going to avoid posting it as there is no spoiler warning on this thread, and I'm not 100% sure of the accuracy of that Call Sheet.
