MemberOvomorphApr-25-2012 12:24 PMI've always been a little dissapointed that we never got much kickass from the androids. Ash got mean for a brief spell before a fire extinguisher took his head off, but bishop seemed like he could have been good in a fight, we just never get to see any of it. the knife trick was all we got.
maybe they're very fragile. it only took one knock on the head for Ash to start spitting milk, and Bishop seemed as susceptible as we are to cuts and dismemberment. also, i realize it wouldnt be much point in even an android going hand to hand with a xeno...i guess it would be a very expensive, very quick fight, and the androids are more valuable doing other things.
my point, i guess, is that with the presumed villians being more humanoid than the xenos, i hope we see some of the androids physical abilities.

MemberOvomorphApr-26-2012 3:51 AMI also have difficulty understanding why we don't just send in synthetics as shock troops. They are super strong, super agile, super intelligent, and utterly without fear. Why have humans involved at all outside of a command and control capacity? Expense shouldn't be an issue since the David series is clearly targeted as a consumer product.
My only guess is that by this time in history use of synthetics for dangerous work or combat has become taboo, maybe because of some sort of traumatic event. Like maybe combat synthetics were a huge deal at some point and then there was a glitch of some sort that turned public opinion against the idea.

MemberOvomorphApr-25-2012 1:45 PMI agree. This endless amuses me: why they need to spend humans when they already have perfect weapons against the xenos.
They are not fragile; Ash was very strong indeed, albeit not very apt at killing _ an ability that could be quickly improved, I think. Bishop was resilient also, and so was Cal. And they could be much more lethal then humans if using weapons.
See, we already have robots in war business. If we could develop robots as advanced as the "Alien" universe androids, it doesn´t requires much imagination to have the military rapidly developing the "Terminator" series...

MemberOvomorphApr-25-2012 1:54 PMyeah, i would have to think that the absence of fear would make them better fighters. better knowledge of tactics, better cohesiveness, and probably better aim are all attributes i have to assume they possess.
clearly their much stronger outwardly, as you said Ash displayed. it just seems that they'd be torn apart as easily as a human, although they could still fight without an arm or a leg, or even missing their bottom half.
i think David gets nasty in this film, whether its against the SJ's, humans, or both...and as I've said before, I think he dies horribly, I can just see it in his character to get it in a bad way, ie burning or a version of Bishops dismemberment.

MemberOvomorphApr-25-2012 2:04 PMit will be a bit too terminator ...i think they try to do a "realistic" android with david ...a totally fake human and i think the most difficult thing ( if not impossibile ) to give to an android is the agility of movement ( just think about pathfinding in videogames ) .

MemberOvomorphApr-25-2012 2:53 PMyou mention terminator Frantz, and suddenly i can picture David moving and fighting just like the T1000

AdminPraetorianMay-01-2012 3:08 PMPeople need to read the link I have posted a bazillion times. :P It talks about every type of Android in the Alien universe. Some dislike the site because it covers all the universe, including AVP (which I hate) but it still talks about Ash, Bishop, Call etc. It's a very useful site and it's cannon.
