We have F-16's and bombers, helicopters, etc, there could be multipe alien craft ( such as the hovering disk ) or one craft could be hundreds or thousands of years older, or suited for a different function. They are supposedly bio mechanical so they can easily transform in accordance to needed functions possibly. I think you have various ships and possibly various times that we are beholding the engineers. What if the engineer that we see outside on the surface of the planet looking at his hand is simply old and he or his race is dying. He could be creating or terraforming earth, seeding earth with the beginings of man, and then enters his ship, leaves and either hibernates until his creations fullfil their potential to make contact with their race to be host to his races DNA (immortality in a sense) and he comes back to earth to repopulate his species. And as far as the Derilect ship discovered by the Nostromono in Alien, that could be a engineer that escaped off the promethius planet heading to earth to invade, or just trying to get back home or quarantine himself because he knew he was doomed and just headed for the most desolate location he could find before what nappears to be a chest buster got him and he crashed. Maybe he's a larger benevelont jockey and the ones encountered by the prometheus crew a smaller more aggressive species that infected him and turned his crew to all those eggs (Dallas cacoon scene where he was being transformed into a face hugger) If there is a 30 year difference as stated between Prometheus and Alien that derilect ship could be old alien/space jockey technology, because the movie, screenplay and books seem to make it ancient, maybe thats why you have eggs and no steel looking cylinders.

This makes a lot of sense! 'Seeding the Earth with the beginnings of man'... I remember hearing from the crew that Scott was trying to use giant landscapes and sweeping visuals to illustrate how tiny mankind really is in the universe. We experience these films from the vantage point of mankind...but he's trying to show how potentially insignificant and trivial humans are in the scheme of things. If that scene does in fact take place at the dawn of Earth...the artifacts pointing us 'home' make a lot of sense. Either the star-map was ingrained in our DNA..or perhaps the Engineers have patiently been visiting various stages of human culture to leave the clues. By the time these films take place our innocent and naive race has finally figured out the meaning...only to be summoned to a larger story already unraveling in the universe.

It's unlikely that the SJ's left clues for man to come and greet them. If this were the case it would certainly have been more than just a few cave paintings in walls but rather something more obvious and probably near indestructible. Not to mention Shaw admits in how wrong she and the rest of the crew are in a few of the trailers (assuming she was referring to the cave paintings).

I always thought the eggs were 'wild' xenos, ie those that have been laid by a queen that had hatched from a host. The glass containers were raw samples that had been bred in a lab. Keeping samples laying around in containers would be a lot safer than having eggs where facehuggers are likely to jump out when you happen to go in the 'lab' wouldn't be safe storage.

THat makes sense, I just allways wondered since in deleted scenes of Alien you are shown that a xenomorph can infect a human or host and change it into a egg (face hugger). I thought maybe an alien escaped or was picked up accidentaly on the planet and burst out of the pilot and transformed the spacejockey crew, wich has now lost control, into host (eggs), with a warning to stay away.

Well we dont know if the deleted scene in Alien will have any relevence, it never on the Alien franchise they simply never went back to the potenial ideas of what happened in that scene. Only as far as the cacooning someone to a wall in that web/goo. The whole what apears to be Dallas turning into a Egg concept was never touched upon in the Franchise and from Aliens onwards the Xenos reproduced via a Queen.

I thought Dallas turning into an egg was dropped by RS because he didn't like the idea. If that's true then he'd be unlikely to revisit it

No, Ridley removed that scene from the theatrical release because of pacing issues, he always liked the scene, hence its re-inclusion in the 2003 Directors Cut.
