I think we're both of the hominid line, but they were a cro-magnon/neanderthal man hybrid that was intervened with so the two species could interbreed successfully all the time and produce hybrids that can reproduce. This changes when they devolve after leaving Earth and they're forced to find new ways to reproduce based on the true space Jockey's genetics; their benefactors (most hybrids are born unable to reproduce). Something else terraformed the Earth for us to have just the right conditions for evolution to progress and then they stepped in and gave this first group of hominids a gift that they misused, almost killing the rest of life on Earth in the process, but leaving us a clue as to where the few survivors went: to take on our true creators (these guys could have still inherited the tech and meddled with the homo Sapien line)

Or could it be that Finland has ties to one of the many proposed locations of some of the last islands of the Atlantean kingdom? They were supposed to have hopped islands to the mainland in legends dating back to pre history i.e. oral traditions. Or some of the places where the mythological Atlanteans ended up... still can't see a direct link to Atlantis from Honolulu... but with some stretching it has ties to Poseidon, the king of Atlantis. The saga tells the name Atlantis comes from the Swedish allt land is (all land ice) and may refer to the last ice age. According to them Atlantis disappeared circa 8000 BC when the ice from the last ice age began to melt in Finland.

This doesn't mean that Ridley Scott was setting the scene in Finland! (George Lucas filmed the start of Star Wars in Tunisia, doesn't mean it was set there!) ShinobiX9X: My apologies. I didn't mean to come off as rude. There have been many people who have posted the fact that the opening scene was filmed in Finland. This doesn't automatically mean that the story was set there. Ridley Scott just shot it there because it looked pre-historic. No one really knows if it is meant to be Earth at all. As for human evolution, I adhere to wide held belief that we (my belief may difer from yours) evolved from, and spread from, the African continent.

Question about the oldest human bones in Asia thing. Did you maybe mean oldest hominid bones? There are non-human hominids that were found over there that I know of. There's primates that wandered over early on, but bipedal Australopithecenes were already getting started in Africa at that time. Not saying it can't be true, but would have required a massive migration of a group of earlier hominids or some sort or simultaneous evolution. Homo Habilis and Erectus didn't wander too far from Africa so I can't see how it would happen, they'd have to be older than the homo sapiens that evolve from the other homo species in Africa. Cro-Magnon and Neanderthal man did spread all over though, way before us, but still even they evolved in Africa first. Cro Magnon and Neanderthal man, because of their bigger builds, were up near Scandanavia and in Siberia when we were still crawling out of the middle-east and spreading into India, far before civilization really gets set up. And Cro-magnons had hunter gatherers going around taking down mammoths, some indications that Neanderthal man did too. Edit: Way later some of us get to hunt mammoths too but by then they're pretty much going extinct.

Most of this comes from past knowledge and my own cross-cultural analysis. Been looking into weird things like Atlantis and ancient aliens for too long now, ever since taking anthro. back in college. If more people focused on what underwater archaeology could tell us we might know more about so-called ancient aliens. There's a culture near the Bahamas that seems to have brought mound building to the Americas. Only, they were imitating a design seen somewhere else and the closer, or further out you go to the ocean(island hopping) the more steps the pyramid has, even though some of these step pyramids are now submerged. You move further inland and it turns into the Native American mound building tradition. You move south and the pyramid design is preserved into South America, then imitated by the natives that come later. Nowhere near as perfect as the ones at higher elevations, or the coastal areas and in the Andes. There are ancient city sites in central and south America that have been completely submerged for certain periods over the last 4000 years, some still partially submerged.

In regards to Asia: there were so many stages before us. Homo Erectus was still dieing out when we really came into our own and out-bred/out-warred them and Homo Habilis. However, Neanderthal man and Cro Magnon are not directly linked to us. They branch off of earlier hominoids and hominins. Way too many names to remember the ones other than the major steps because some are more like our cousins instead of links in the evolutionary chain (really more of a tree now because the branching is fact in some cases and we use the term last common ancestor). Simultaneous, or branching evolutions (not the technical term) from different primate lines is a theory for these guys. So, I suppose there could be some weird newly discovered, even controversial, Hominid or Hominoid over in Asia. Even something that looks really human. We've found human remains that are 70 000 years old in Canada and Alaska. Which means humans crossed Beringia way before we thought they did. Gov't doesn't wanna admit they're human, and claims they're neanderthal, but some anthropologists claim they really are human. So not impossible for something similar to at least be being argued over.

Finland != Iceland.

Newton was perfect untill Einstein came with relativity, That doesn't mean Newton was completely wrong, but new discoverys were/are made About Iceland, the first time i read it i thought the beginning of time might be a big bang, or shortly after when time dimension became possible etc then someone mentions it's a famous waterfall in iceland then we discussed other theories of of humanoids maybe being here way before us, etc etc, i started fantasising that it's old visitors or blueish ppl that lived here, that left with the huge round UFO (or more than 1) in the scene and leaving starmap(s) on earth
