FILM RATINGS COMPROMISE..?

i'm guessing that FOX is going to mandate a "PG-13" film rating for PROMETHEUS here in the United States, so they can get as much box-office as they possibly can i was thinking, that a fair compromise for both Ridley Scott and us folks who'd prefer an "R" rating if that is Scott's creative intention, would be for FOX to release 2 cuts of the film for theatrical release one "R-Rated" the other "PG-13" i am well aware that is easier said then done, but wouldn't that be a fair compromise for those of us who would prefer to see this film as Scott truly intended, if in fact Scott is striving for a true "Rated R" film here...?

Agreed, in fact, more likely than not...2 versions makes business sense, easily accomodated by this rash of multiscreen theaters among us these days. Ridley has the power, one of the very few elite directors alive today in that position. A lot of press covered the so called budget talk with Fox getting what they wanted over what Ridley wanted? puhleaseee... excuse me while I spin out of both sides of my mouth....R.S. is smarter than any studio head/board, sharp enough to bid high and 'settle' publicly for what he actually needed.

If its 'R' rated we are gonna have some fun ... cause we know what to expect ;)

We don't even know the exact contents of the film yet, we can only speculate. Granted it seems like a movie with this subject matter would warrant an R rating, but in reality it might just be a soft R in which case cutting out just a few things would ensure a bigger box office return. I would have to agree with that decision. We would likely get the R rated version when it came out on Blu ray. I just wouldn't want key plot points changed just to get more butts in the seats, that I wouldn't agree with. I've seen every Die Hard movie and the last one was actually PG-13, all the others were R rated. I did see the R rated version on DVD and the only difference was the language was toned down a little. Wasn't a big distraction to me so I could see why they made that choice. I would prefer that Prometheus be R rated knowing that Scott could release the film he wants without making any cuts, but once again we don't know the actual content yet and what would be cut.

Well the empire magazine interview said it all that he wants to make the best most aggressive film he can get away with so yeah i hope it just gets the r rating but as a compromise release both versions if that's the only way we can see he's intended cut .

Ridley Scott, if you're reading this, please make it R. But yeah, if money's an issue, just have both versions for the theater. You make more money and you keep everyone satisfied.

I don't see them releasing two versions, but I would say that could settle a few things in regards to ratings when you could compare box office returns of two different versions of a film released at the same time. I would even argue the R would have better returns with people thinking they might miss something in the PG version.

personally, i don't think Scott would have more violence than needed, so if the violence is the driving force behind what could be an R Rating, i'd hope that FOX would understand there is a point to whatever violence may be needed to push the story into it's correct trajectory but, at the end of the day ticket sales are what drive studios like FOX aaaaaaargh. ah well....
