MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 11:03 PMit's cool and all that he's excited to see PROMETHEUS,
but GOD OH GAAAAWD, PLEASE KEEP Cameron FAR - FAR - - - - - FAR
AWAY FROM ANY / ALL SEQUELS to PROMETHEUS. yes...i AM a hater
like that
alteredstate.
MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 11:07 PMlol @ shardy's comments ..... well maybe if he spent as much time and energy on his actors performance's then he could deliver a great sequel and dont let him near the dialogue lol get a pro writer on board .

MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 11:11 PM@altered: oh snap* you make a valid point. in all honesty, i do NOT
hate Cameron, or his other films, i think Titanic is an exquisitely crafted film,
i was lucky enough to see that film in its first run in 1997, and i love Terminator 1/2,
and The Abyss. i just hate what he did with "Aliens" is all
alteredstate.
MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 11:19 PMIn all fairness he's a terrific action film director but i'm not that keen on most of his films i wasn't that enamoured with titanic myself but its a well crafted classic .
I loved the terminator films, hated true lies, but Piranha was abysmal and the abyss, like aliens was technically good but some of the acting and dialogue was fully matured cheesy.

MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 11:23 PMjames cameron cant make a double prequel... i guess he will just enjoy the movie like us...
alteredstate.
MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 11:29 PMwell lindelof has already said the sequel to prometheus would NOT be alien and ridleys already thinking what the sequel could be or so its reported he said.
shardy
MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 11:29 PM@altered: Piranha..! i forgot about that one..! i would watch that every time
it was aired here either on lazy weekend afternoons, or late night TV here in
the states. i know it was cheesy, but i could not resist
i thought True Lies was an okay action film,
i think it faltered heavily in the 4th act. i tried watching Last Action Hero,
but i just couldn't get into that film. i will say, i did enjoy Avatar, even though
i've only ever seen it on cable
alteredstate.
MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 11:34 PMlol i forgot about last action hero cant remember it though but i have seen it .
Again technically he raised the bar with avatar but the story has been done to death in hollywood from Dances with wolves to ferngully the bones of those films is the basis of avatar but i thought it was a great entertaining film for younger audiences that haven't seen those films and in that context.

MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 11:39 PMDon't understand all the hate towards Cameron.
I loved Alien. I thought Aliens was good, but not awesome. Everybody I knew loved Aliens. I think Cameron made a brilliant decision to make his own film and expand on traits of the xenomorph and not just copy Scotts style of filmmaking. Too many directors just copy what came before them or take elements of what was successful in the prior film and just add more of it (explosions, car chases, villains etc.)....cough, cough...Michael Bay.
In a perfect world Scott would have been back with a fantastic story for a great sequel, but that didn't happen. Even if he did do a sequel that doesn't guarantee a great film. No doubt he's a great director, but nobody has a 100% track record, not even Scott. I think we could have done MUCH worse than Cameron.
Sometimes I don't think people think things through all the way. I hear people already talking about wanting to pre order Prometheus on Blu ray when it's available, THE MOVIE ISN'T EVEN OUT YET!!! I am sooooo amped for Prometheus, but who knows? I may not even like it. I can't say I'm gonna buy the Blu ray yet.

MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 11:42 PMi think cameron directed piranha 2 the spawning , shardy not the original.
alteredstate.
MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 11:44 PMi dont hate cameron i think he's a genius but he should hire some pros for the appropriate departments like writing and casting.

MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 11:47 PMCameron gets an 8 out of 10 with me...there is much worse out there.
alteredstate.
MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 11:52 PMsometimes you just know its like being a good judge of character or having good foresight and the trailer alone is worth a blu ray purchase i just cant see it being crap and i love sc fi its guaranteed i will buy it on blu ray .
even if its not a classic scfi it will be a hell of a lot better then the vast majority of sc fi that we have had in recent years so im definitely going to buy it.

MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 12:11 AMwhat's with all the hate when it comes to Cameron and the Alien franchise?? I think he took a great movie and made an amazing sequel to it. The problem with the franchise started with Alien3. Scott or Cameron should have been brought back on board for any addition sequels after Aliens.

MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 12:14 AMInteresting interview. I loved Aliens as well. Different movie than the original and that's ok. I did see this trailer on that website and it looks pretty damn good for a tv pilot. MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 12:43 AMThis thread wasn't intended to get into a cameron bashing debate we have enough of those and i'm not a cameron hater by any means, infact i really admire him as an artist and technician he is a genius and aliens was a great film i think we have established that, but like all films with the benefit of hindsight there are areas that could of been better.
Even ridley scott would change things in alien if he could like ash's head in the decapitation scene, and the dodgy arms there is also the Continuity shots of the space jockey size in the shots of dallas and the size of the sj head when he used children to give the sj even more scale.
All this stuff is fine with the benefit of hindsight and there are budget constraints to take into consideration but all in all james cameron is a top director and will always be thought of and respected in this regard.

MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 12:51 AMPrometheus had goddamned well better be rated R >:(
I sincerely fear them making it PG-13 and it becoming another AVP, in the sense that everything is so much softer and violence etc. is hidden..not in clever ways or ways that make you think, but in stupid ways :(
shardy
MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 12:55 AM@altered: oh, i thought he did them both?
i like whatever one has Heather Menzies in it

MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 1:03 AMlol yeah cameron cut his teeth under corman he was probably attached to that one but directed the sequel he was after all originally an effects guy.

MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 2:21 AMJames Cameron is the epitome of confidence. He wins from his Titanic movie, then spouts off to all of us "I'm the king of the world!!" like an arrogant douchebag (and supposedly in real-life he is kind of a douchebag). BUT, he spends his money on Avatar, and Avatar becomes the highest-grossing movie in history. He knows what he's doing, and his arrogance is covered.
But imagine him doing a sequel to Prometheus. What'll it be called? "Prometheuses"? I imagine history repeating itself, for those of you who have seen Aliens (who hasn't?)
Biehn_Bandit
MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 2:31 AMPeople still not understanding the context of "I'm the king of the world." It has nothing to do with arrogance, but with elation. He's not literally saying he's king or that he's above anyone.
Starbeast
MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 2:55 AMIf judging directors was based on how much money their films grossed, then Cameron would indeed by 'king of the world' - I'm going to jump the gun and say, not even Spielberg can match Cameron's ROI.

MemberTrilobiteMar-30-2012 3:46 AMWhy hate Jim Cameron for Aliens, hate the Brandywine guys (Gordon, Carroll and Hill) there the ones that greenlighted Aliens all on the basis of Jim's first true film, the Terminator. They made Jim and Gales life hell during the production of Aliens, constantly interfering and refusing to let Jim do any scenes within the Derelict. Jim has said more than once that working on Aliens is one of the worst experiences of his filmmaking career, and I think we all know why, eh Brandywine productions.

MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 3:59 AMPart of Cameron's success is his writing, and he's rarely recognized for it. No, I'm not talking about some of the aspects of a script that are the most noticeable to people--like dialogue. I'm talking about written tension on the page. Few writers can create an action sequence with tension beats as well as Cameron. And if you bother to actually read one of his scripts, it's fairly obvious that the visual scene in his head is written in such a way that all the key people will see that imagery.
*Read the sub-dogfight and subsequent drowning scene from The Abyss.
*Read the nearly two pages that describe Ripley's descent down the elevator platform. Amazing script writing.
Yes, he has his weaknesses in scripts, but his strengths are more than enough to make his films as successful as they are. He gets a bad wrap for something that he actually does very well.
