In Alien Ash is instructed to carry out Special Order 937. The company knew the distress signal was actually a warning and that the derelict spacecraft had encountered a hostile life form. So perhaps in Prometheus the company also knew and the SJ & spacecraft are a different race to another, yet unseen, alien

not everyone agree about how much the company did know about the alien life form . Surely they did reroute the Nostromo and substitute the science officer to "control" better the situation . Regarding the very nature of the alien lifeform i dont think they did know much but is my speculation ..others opinion differs . Of course whatever the ending of prometheus will be it will be difficult to not speculate about how many informations the company gathered from the pthometheus mission that will subsequently lead to nostromo reroute ( that kind of speculation will happen even if Prometheus story will have nothing to do will alien since the company , the planet and the SJs ship are probably the same )

I really think that there will be more than 1 alien lifeform in the movie: The humans in the Crew The synthetics in the Crew The 'od' race The SJ's The genetic ooze/eggs

makes me think in terms of Biblical symbolism...could this be a "Noah's Ark" of sorts if they are seeding the universe?!?!???

The more I think about it the more I am coming to believe that this special order had nothing to do with any prior knowledge of any particular alien lifeforms. I think it's just a generic standing order. It just makes sense to say, "If you run into any alien life, snatch one and bring it home."

I think they had prior knowledge of the Jockey race, or at least vague knowledge. After the prometheus goes missing I suspect weyland will cover it up as a tragic accident. After that point Special Order 937 will come in. Funny part is, if the alien had not killed the original crew, I have a feel the company might have....

Right on Shane. No doubt, the company bags themselves an Alien, then HAS to wipe out any survivors of the experience......

This topic sure aged well scrounger.

In the Alien: River of Pain and Alien: Sea of Sorrows, the aliens Weyland-Yutani came across in were different from the Engineers seen on LV-223 and Planet 4.

"Anne froze. Now she understood why the corridors were so high and so wide. They hadn’t been built this size for the sake of grandeur, but simply for scale. The remains of this new creature were more humanoid than the first, but even larger than the others—nine feet, Anne guessed. All that remains of its body was it’s skeleton – bones inside some kind of exo-suit of the same design as the ship, with the same techno—organic texture."

Alien: River Pain, page 169.

It is unclear what was found in the vessel on LV-178 in Alien: Sea of Sorrows and this species could certainly be something we haven't seen yet in film.
