Co-AdminMemberOvomorphMar-02-2012 4:27 AMTo quote from Mal'aak
Some of this is real and is being circulated to test groups, but some very naughty person has added the whole second part starting with "As a reward...". As far as I know that second part isn't real, other things yes. Just thought I'd let you know.
Although we won't see much of 2058, it's my opinion that Shaw's father, as a missionary in one of the last to be inhabited places in Africa, discovers something ancient that Weyland is interested in. Young Shaw either witnesses or learns about the discovery, inspiring her faith and career in archaeology, and we flash forward to present day 2073 to meet Shaw and learn that the discovery was a flashback, the first of a few memories of her father we see.
They've also added little bits to it here and there, and they run two slightly different versions of it in surveys and focus groups... which is why this person maybe tried to add the two together.
edit: when I say the second part's not real I mean the studio never released it or anything. Whoever added it could be close to what the real plot summary is. I've got no clue about how everything plays out for sure, but I've mentioned the 2058 thing and Zeta 2 Reticuli/FTL travel here before.
Now that we've seen the Peter Weyland TED video, 2023+50 years=2073
The added 50 years are of course because they are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the speech, if I remember rightly.
That's a little too co-incidental for my liking.
I'm beginning to think that in fact that synopsis has more than a grain of reality to it. IMHO of course ;-)
It was from this synopsis that Mal'aak was responding to that wheresbasky posted, the old news one, but I believe that this is now more relevant since the Peter Weyland TED video came out
Earth. Year 2058.
Archaeological digs in Africa reveal alien artifacts that humans were genetically engineered by a advanced alien race (space jockeys). These “Alien Gods” also terraformed Earth in order to make it habitable for their human creations. Amongst finds are coordinates to the Alien God’s home-world, to Paradise. Months later the Weyland Corp launch the spaceship PROMETHEUS and his crew, into deep space to make first contact. Thanks to faster than light travel a few years later the PROMETHEUS enters the Zeta Riticuli star system. Humans are greeted by their makers, then transported further into space to a scary yet fascinating world. The Alien Gods are proud of their “children”, their first creation to reach such levels of intelligence.
As a reward they share bits of their astonishing bio-based technologies with the humans. But for one crew member of the Prometheus it’s not enough. In a treacherous act he steals the “bio-source code” to Terraforming, a technology at the origin of all Gods’ power, that could make humans equal to the gods. The Alien Gods may be scientists but are also ruthless conquerors, destroyers of worlds who will not accept humans as equals. They unleash on the escaping human crew their favorite bio-weapon, a creature used to “clean up” worlds before colonization. But something goes wrong in the process and humans manage to turn the bio-weapon against their makers. Giving birth to a smarter, nastier, bigger breed of gut eating creatures. Creatures that will be the demise of Paradise. What’s left of the Prometheus crew manages to escape the doomed planet.
On their trail a survivor Alien God in very familiar ship with one ultimate mission. Bring the wrath of the Gods to Earth.
I know it's been discussed before, however in light of what Mal'aak posted I think it should be looked at a little more closely now........

MemberOvomorphMar-02-2012 4:47 AMI'm a bit cynical about the Alien gods being proud of their children, and then turning on them when a crew member starts stealing stuff! I think they will be plain evil from the get go.
However the flash backs I think are significant, as I suspect Shaw to be a replicant/android with inserted memory engrams to make her believe she is human. I think Ridleys trying to demonstrate that the space jockeys see humans as human's see androids.

Co-AdminMemberOvomorphMar-02-2012 5:17 AMApparently there were 2 synopsis' going around and the people that were shown them were asked which they wanted to see in a movie. The significant part I think is that Mal'aak mentions the date 2073 and I'm fairly sure it was just before that Peter Weyland TED video came out. That's what got my mind a-thinkin' ;-) by the way, what's a "memory engram"?

MemberTrilobiteMar-02-2012 6:26 AMI call fake...
1. I thought Prometheus was set in 2085, or there abouts.
2. This idea of using their fave bio weapon to clean up worlds before colonization, if refering to the Xeno, sounds like a rip off of my idea of why the xeno was originally created (posted many times on these forums).
3. Enderwiggin can correct me if I am wrong but if the Prometheus is able to utilize M-Theory then FTL doesn't really come into it, theoretically.

MemberOvomorphMar-02-2012 7:29 AMAlso wouldn't you guys love to have been asked what YOU wanted to see in this thing...?....man I would have LOved that !!!

MemberOvomorphMar-02-2012 7:55 AMPlease stop reposting this absurd plot synopsis. Only the author of Predator 2 would think of something like this.

I think it's got something to do with turning muffins into pancakes.

Believe what you see IMO. Text is becoming the enemy...

MemberOvomorphMar-02-2012 9:35 AMA memory engram is basically an inserted synthetic memory, y'know like Rachel in Blade Runner.
Snork I think there is a part of M-Theory that predicts that if the universe is finite and spherical and Calabi–Yau shapes are present on the very small scale that you can travel between 2 points instantly. That would theoretically pave the way for FTL travel.
I had to edit my first post as I nearly started a row! LOL

wheresbasky?
MemberOvomorphMar-02-2012 12:08 PMPosted this a couple of days back!!!
was told it was old news or leaked ages ago or disclaimed
so it's not really relevant, but it is an interesting read all the same!!!

MemberOvomorphMar-02-2012 1:40 PMAs I said before when you see the part "to a scary and fascinating world", that part is FAKE, the real quote was closer to the darkest corners of the universe that shows up in the official synopsis.
EVERYTHING after that has been added by someone else who's seen the expanded synopsis they were running, and much of that is just their own (and popular web speculation stuff). The first lines and paragraph about Africa are real. Everything else about them releasing their favorite bio-weapon and even the line about them being proud of their creations is FAKE and has been added to by someone trying to pass it off as completely real.

Veteran MemberMemberOvomorphMar-02-2012 6:07 PMEvent Horizon... one of the best ,
how about Silent Running
Cypher
Co-AdminMemberOvomorphMar-02-2012 6:35 PMI actually liked Predator 2........ And Event Horizon......
The point I was trying to make is that the date that Mal'aak had matches the one from the TED video, being that the TED video was posted in 2023 and it is the 50 year celebration, ergo 2073. I only posted the synopsis as reference because Mal'aak also said that it comes from 2 that were posted as the 1. Other than that I'm still withholding my judgement till I see the finished product. Seven or 8 times :-P
