Don't know if anyone has mentioned this before but anyone think any religious groups will complain about Prometheus's creation ideas????
I can see the pickets with Ridleys face in the hands of protesting church goers now!!

MemberOvomorph01/16/2012You start from the assumption that prometheus will make disturbing revelations about the creation of man ( and probably it will )...if anyone ( atheist or religious ) take this seriousely i will be speechless ....
If someone raise a religious debate about a sci fi movie is because he feel the need to talk about that ...not for the movie itself .

I mean, there should be enough freedom for entertainment.
And whether you believe in something or not, it is always up to you.

I understand where u coming from...and I agree...but be prepared to be speechless...cause the religious will complain!.....but I doubt it will really hurt the movie....hopefully it might even boost ticket sales...controversy sells!.....i am also not sure just how major this outcry will be.....perhaps very minor...time will tell?
Remember "The Golden Compass".....omg what was all the fuss about.....ridiculous....i was left speechless!
I consider myself as an agnostic....i have my very own spiritual beliefs....how accurate they are....I don't actually even care.....but I am in no hurry to find out what lies ahead when i eventually perish...lol

Well, The golden compass was one of those movies where me and my friend wasted two hours of our life ^^
It was just not convincing and the hidden father agenda is so old since Star Wars episode IV.
Also, if the dark forces could slip into the human world, i would say they will be annihalited by the more advanced human military tech LOL.

I thought he golden compass was good....but not great...I only used it as an example cause of all the religious controversy it generated...i don't really give a shit about Star Wars....not even the originals did much for me....mild entertainment at best....so i never made the hidden father connection....Star wars was the furthest thing from my mind when i watched "the Golden Compass"!

MemberOvomorph01/16/2012I can remember when they burnt the space jockey mock up outside the Egyptian theatre in 79.
Its unbelievably narrow minded in this day an age and the massive amount of anti religious films that have been since the exorcist came out.
Really 2001 had all kinds of religious Connotations behind it but i don't remember a scandal back then, then again fanatics of all denominations will use any excuse to spout their religious dogma and crazy ideology.

MemberOvomorph01/16/2012Yes there's a few mentions of this on the original alien extras dvd and the anthology i can't remember weather it was burnt in its entirety or not or if it was heavily vandalised but there are mentions of it and discussions about it on the dvd extras.

A few week back (less than a month ago) i started a thread called "Creation vs Evolution and then their is Prometheus"
It sparked some very in debt discussions....I don't think their is any search functions on these forums....but u could look it up if u backtracked a few pages!....just encase u interested?

MemberOvomorph01/16/2012I did a search for Prometheus Movie whilst bored a work today. Stumbled across several pages with the God squad already bashing the ideas in Prometheus. They speak of how this sort of thing puts false ideas in people's heads that we were created by another alien race and not by 'God'.

MemberOvomorph01/16/2012Not all religious people are morons who can't think for themselves, btw. Anyway, it seems like the ancient astronaut theory, or whatever name you want it give it, isn't exactly a new idea anymore. I'm not going to protest against this movie anymore than I would protest against the History Channel for making Ancient Aliens. Just because I don't agree with something doesn't mean it can't be interesting or thought provoking.

I respect your opinion....at least u don't just slant the movie cause it does not necessarily follow your beliefs...my mother and many friends and relatives are all very Religious...personally I do not believe....but i am open minded enough to admit that i might even be wrong.....
I am not an atheist .....I believe in an afterlife and even a God...i do not believe in the bible at all!...that i think makes me an Agnostic....I don't have faith....I need proof!
But each to his own....the basis of this thread is weather we think that the plot will generate any religious controversy....in the end it is pure fiction....so it really shouldn't....if their is an outcry....I hope it's nothing to serious..... hopefully!

MemberOvomorph01/16/2012I am a believer and I'm not afraid of this movie offending me. My faith is what it is and nothing's going to change that. It's a movie, one I happen to be excited beyond my wildest dreams for.
And besides...The idea of life existing outside of our own, even intelligent life, has never been objectionable to me. The two ideas are not mutually exclusive. If aliens descended tomorrow in flying saucers on the lawn of the White House...I'd still believe in God. If ideas in 'Prometheus' suggested the absence of God...fine, it's a movie. Why get all upset and let an idea get under your skin that much?

MemberOvomorph01/16/2012I'm an atheist and I will openly admit that I am slightly disturbed with some of the choices of this film. I'm not really offended by the creationism idea as a whole, I'm more ill from that idea mixing with the universe of the Alien movie.
It's like the AvP films all over again with a different recipe. This movie in my eyes could be better in two ways... It could either ignore the Alien universe all together and tell its own story of how man was created by these ancient aliens (which is what I would prefer) or it could ignore the theory entirely and instead go into what was responsible for the events in Alien. But rather then choose one of those two, Ridley has picked both. :(
It's two great things in one movie, Ridley hit two birds with one stone. I don't know about you guys but to me that's overkill and definitely a lot to take in, little too much for my taste, though I'm sure I will still enjoy the movie.
Try to understand that I'm not attacking creationism or anyone's beliefs.
