I have heard that they are doing two cuts of this movie and then deciding on which one they will release... I have also heard that they are definitely releasing it as PG-13 as this is what the studio wants and maybe then another cut will be released later. Does anyone know what is the correct rumour?

I just hope it doesn't have a pg 13 rating. That would kill the vibe, horror movies are for adults and so is the entire alien franchise. People like to feel real life emotions when it comes to horror meaning adults saying and doing real things when shit hits the fan, and monsters making a mess, cause thats what monsters do, i mean with moderation of course. Remember it was the chest bursting scene from alien that got millions of people on the edge of their seats. The alien transforming while the team of scientist struggled to survive their own chaos, these are the points of great horror a combination of gore and suspense. If the space jockeys made aliens predators or whatever else they obviously have some form of edge to them so they should be scene as scary dark architects masterminds of the universe, yet still vulnerable to chance, fate, as in they are still creatures created by the creator just real smart with genetics. peace.

If memory serves…Ridley Scott said that he will be cutting a PG-13 and an R rated version together for a final decision to be made by FOX. I HATE THIS IDEA! An ALIEN genre film with an “PG-13” rating. That’s Bull SHIP! What a bunch of sell out, money mongering “suits”! Talk about Pussing out. Now I’m gonna have to sit in the theatre next to a horde of 12 year old, video game playin’ pansies, yakin’ through the whole movie. It just dumbs down and Diet Cokes the whole thing. Why don’t they just pass out Happy Meals and Crayons at the theatre entrance. I guess the BAD-ASSNESS of ALIEN is all in the pass. I guess this is all just part of our jacked up, metro-sexual, boring, passionless society. A society where kids sit on their asses and play video games and Facebook all summer, instead of going to the beach and chasing girls. A society where grown men do the same thing while chasing pornstars on the internet. WAKE UP!!! Okay…I’ll get off my “soapbox”. Look…just give me an “R” Rating…like I asked…and there wont be any trouble. ~Neurion P.S. Read the Holy Bible…and the “Fight Club” novel. See The “Passion of the Christ”…and “Fight Club” films. Good lessons inside.

Personally, I feel it could work out with either rating. Going the way of PG-13 would ensure a lot of suspense, and yet the family can still have a good time! But the drawback of that would be lack of blood/gore....... which is trademark of the Alien canon. An R rated version would obviously be more graphic and we will actually see the cast get inviscerated instead of the camera pulling out at just the right moment in PG-13 restrictions by the new xenomorphs or whatever "it" will be in this movie. Regardless of the rating it will be a box office smash anyway. I just hope they show the Space Jockey. An R-rated cut would go straight to dvd if a PG-13 goes theatrical. Space Jockey! Space Jockey! Space Jockey! I WANT SPACE JOCKEY!!!!!!!

This is the exact reason why I ask the question. I think the majority of us, the hardcore fans, truly believe that it has to be an R rated film. not just because of the gore. Gore doesn't make a good film. The suspense and the whole experience just isn't suited to a younger audience. It needs to include very adult, harsh situations and we need to see the film without any censorship. PLEASE don't just make it for the 'wider' audience. We the fans, or the franchise itself don't need any more fans. Believe in the original concept, with the original director and the fans will come....

I really don't want a PG-13 rating. I want the full Alien experience with everything that entails. The people who are really excited about this film are probably hardcore fans who love the original film Alien. That should be of primary concern to both the film makers and to Fox. I know a lot of young people who have never even seen Alien. I understand wanting to broaden the appeal of the film by giving it a more family-friendly rating. But Alien is not really a family-friendly film and Prometheus shouldn't be either. I want it to be nightmare inducing, raw, and totally Alien.

If they rate thew film and cut out so much to accommodate a PG13 rating, so much will be lost. Look what happened with Alien vs. Predator when FOX insisted on a PG13 rating - it ruined the birth of a possibly great franchise. Let's hope the same does not happen here. I am hoping for a solid, and well deserved "R".
Hyped for: Alien: Romulus | Badlands (Predator 6) | Cloverfield 4

I predict if they launch with a PG-13 rating this film fails miserably. I cannot believe, refuse to, that the studios would even consider such a thoroughly dumb and absolutely out of touch, detrimental, and completely incompetent move which would directly and negatively effect any potential success of this film. If I am Scott, on this one, I tell them straight up, it goes out as a minimum R rated film or it sits in a frikkin' can for the rest of their lives and they can kiss my Xenomorphing butt!

The question i ask myself is .... Alien in your countries is a PG 13 or an R ? If its PG-13 we can be assured that a masterpiece can be done with a PG 13 on it :)

I agree, but seriously what it really really means is that any offensive language or scenes containing blood and gore will be edited out, which 100% sucks the life out any plausibility or credibility this film will have at all in light of the other 4. The situation calls for a complete FREE PASS and if Scott wants to release a film so violent and Bloody it makes people run out of the theater screaming, it should be Rated X, as ROBOCOP was originally before the studios made Verhooven cut it, and this is a Fact...58 frikkin' times, before they allowed it to run as a"R" rated film. Scott should be given the Green Light to put as much Language. blood. gore, sex etc etc etc in this thing and have it go out as an "R" rated film. Now, the studios do not care about what is right, they have ONE AGENDA only, which is maximize the profits and the way they typically do this is watering down films below the "R" level. This is a case, where should they do that, and should the cuts involved by detailed in any way, you can call this film a failure right now. You cannot water down a Ridley Scott film of this importance, you just cannot, it goes far beyond the money as well, it goes, as I was saying to the very credibility of the entire franchise. IF they make the cuts and anybody who is a long time XENOMORPH RESPECTING fan goes and is disapointed because of it, word is going to spread like a disease and faster than a Rabbit gets You Know What F. Murray Abraham said in Scarface. And this entire project will die a slow and very painful death. Once again, If I am Scott, I will not compromise my integrity for even one IOTA for "The Suits" As far as I am considered Scott trumps every one of them, and if they don't like it..TOO BAD for the studios, he could release this film using his own money and tell them a la "Ripley" @ the end of "ALIENS" to... "Get Away From Me You Biaatches"...lol. Just my opinion, but as you can see I am emphatic about it. I want as much blood and gore and language and raw truth and of what Ridley "Truly intended" to be left in this film when we see it as possible!!! I don't want to wait a year for some collectors Quintology that trys to tell me... "Here is the "Prometheus" version Scott Truly intended for me to see to begin with"

the problem is that they gave R ratings to family movies like The gladiator ( scott was there ) Terminator II ( come on ... ) 300 ( please ... ) Pretty Woman ( lol ) Rain man ( muahahaha ) The matrix reloaded ( maybe because was so lame ) its true that teenagers are the fundaments of every big success like titanic , avatar , inception etc etc but i dont think prometheus should fall in this category ..and if the Gladiator was already a success with an R rating why not prometheus then ?

It has to be an 'r' rated movie , even if they met halfway and agreed on a 15 rating that would not be so bad , fook it if they make it pg 13 then the space jockeys will most likely be the teletubbiers, jesus.....why go from 'r' rated to pg 13, such a big gap between the two!!!!!! idiots money grabbing parasites

The unfortunate reality of the situation is that we'll probably see a PG-13 release. PG-13 = available for viewing by a larger demographic of people = more money. I hate to say it but I think that'll be the case. And we'll end up with a semi-skimmed sci-fi horror.
