Oh the nostalgia. The action packed 1990s hit Independence Day will finally see a sequel after more than 19 years of waiting. Unlike other 90s reboots such as 2015's summer hit Jurassic World; Independence Day: Resurgence (Referred to as IDR) will include a range of new and original cast members. Jeff Goldblum is back as the quirky David Levinson, the director of the new Earth defense program. Bill Pullman, while now Fmr. President Whitmore, will be making a return. Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch and Brent Spiner will also be returning. It is currently unclear how Will Smith's character will be concluded as both his son and wife hold are cast for the sequel.
At the conclusion of Independence Day, the American counter-attack is copied across the world with each of the 36 city-destroyers crashing in flames. From Sydney, Australia to Cairo, Egypt, the human victory would seem to be a stunning conclusion to an alien invasion. With the mothership destroyed by the nuclear device planted by Cpt. Steven Hiller and Daniel Levinson, Earth is saved from the locust-like aliens. However Roland Emmerich explains the war is far from over stating, "Well, it’s only like one of the hives, like kind of moving around...Also it’s a little bit about what happened to our world when you know that they are coming back. We had 20 years to come together as a planet and to build incredible things to have a little more even fight."
With new alien hybrid technology, and a unified planet, the human fight may not require a life-saving virus. With an expanding universe and rumors of a proposed trilogy in the works, this is the true resurgence in the Independence Day series everybody has been waiting for.
