Toho has seen Godzilla 2014 and they loved it!

I can't wait to see the entire movie myself and if Toho thinks the movie is fantastic, that makes me want to watch that much more.

ToHo has made some horrible Godzilla movies, so I'm not sure why everyone gives them so much respect.  If they loved it, I'm happy, but I bet they loved some of those god-awful movies that they produced.  So I really don't trust their opinion.  Reviews from film critics will start filtering in late next week.  Then we will know.

I loved most of Toho's Godzilla movies, and they love this movie... is it May yet?

Toho has also made the BEST Godzilla movies and created Godzilla themselves, or did you forget that?  The one time someone outside of Toho made a Godzilla movie, it was the worst of all time, or did you forget that also?  You can't cherry-pick what you want to make a point of rebuttal.  That is what is called a "Straw-Man Argument."

NO ONE knows better about the quality of their own creation than the creator.  Everyone is entitled to their own opinion I understand, but there hasn't even been a level yet of stupidity created to fit your comment into.  There hasn't.  I guess YOU would know better than Toho on what a good Godzilla movie is.  I guess some critic somewhere would know better than Toho on what a good Godzilla movie is.  I guess it is also YOUR standards or definition as well as that of movie critics as to what is "good" or "bad" in a movie as well?

I realize you made this post just to draw attention to yourself because there is no way anyone could be this dilapidated.  Yoy already know a tidal-wave of negative posts are coming your way which is what you set out to do.  I just wanted to kick things off the right way.

Now granted this is just "my" opinion as well.  However I think you'll find that if you do believe your own foolish commet then you will be in a very, VERY lonely place.

Not only I can't wait to see it during the Midnight showing on May 16th, but I can't wait to own it once it comes out on Blu Ray! Hell..I would buy a Limited Edition Blu Ray, just Like I did for Game of Therones season #3!

I agree Godzilla 98 was the worst Godzilla flicks of all time, as well as one of the worst movies of all time.  But lets not pretend that ToHo Godzilla movies rival the Godfather movies.  The original Godzilla was great.  I saw it in 1963 as a 7-year-old.  Ghidrah, The Three Head Monster was great, and maybe Godzilla 2000.  But rest were so-so to flat-out horrific.  I know this is a Godzilla website, so I will hit a few nerves if I'm not glowing with praise for ToHo, but I'm just being honest.  And just because ToHo created the Godzilla franchise doesn't mean that they know any more than anyone else.  If they knew so much about what makes a good Godzilla movie, they should have made better movies.  I'm happy they loved it.  I hope to love it too.  I've been waing for decades to see what Hollywood can do with Godzilla, using a big budget, great actors and state of the arts special effects.  Something ToHo never did.

D2K-I get your point, but I don't think ratedrex is trolling by any means. There are good and not-so-good Godzilla movies, I personally love them all (even the bad ones), but the fact is, Godzilla movie qualities varies and is not uniformly good. I won't go so far as to they say most Toho Godzilla flicks are bad as ratedrex said, that's not fair in my opinion. However,  some are indeed better than the others. Of course, the very best one (the original) was made by Toho. 

Of course, ratedrex does seem a tad unfair to suggest most Toho Godzilla flicks are bad...but otherwise I get his larger point that not all Toho Godzilla movies are good.

No one knows better about the quality of their own creation than the creator. I agree with that statement 100%.

I is good to hear the Toho, The CREATORS OF GODZILLA, THE KING OF ALL MONSTERS liked the film. This is going to be a great movie.

The only thing that matters is Godzilla 2014 looks fantastic and the story so far that we know of seems to fit perfectly into this movie but seeing is believing. I trust this movie will do very, very well and if Toho the creaters of Godzilla like it, I'm going to like it as well. Regardless of how many good or bad movies they made of Godzilla, by what I've seen, I trust my instincts and I believe this movie will kick ass.

P.S. Ratedrex, I don't truly trust film critics not all of their comments about a film are going to effect my decision on seeing this movie. For example of a critic (who knows anyways but it's my theory) lets say that most critics in their own taste prefer to watch true story movies or romantic type and or some thriller movies and here they are getting paid to give their opinion on a sci-fy/fantasy and action packed adventure and they give it bad reviews. Will you alone take that in account and let them judge for you or will you judge for yourselfs and don't get me wrong, please but there are some movies that are better to wait for DVD/Blue ray. I just watched the legend of hercules and there where cool special effects but the story and acting seem B rated for me, I kind of wished I waited for it to come to DVD/Blue ray. Godzilla showed enough footage in their trailers to make me a believer and I think Godzilla is worth going to the theaters to watch on the big screen and if Toho likes it, I think they have good taste in this movie.

Putting faith in film critics is extremely foolish as everyone has different opinions. 

I remember watching that American Hustle movie a while back that all the "critics" were saying was amazing and while watching it, I wondered if I have ever been so bored by a movie in my entire life.

Statzman 44:  I don't trust critics either.  They tend to feed off of each other.  And they are prone to convincing themselves, and each other, that certain movies are better than they are.  I just watched "12 Years a Slave" and I couldn't understand what was the big deal.  Same with "Argo", and "Slumdog Millionaire", and "The Hurt Locker" and on and on.  However, when it comes to special effects movies, their consensus opinion gives us a pretty good idea how the movie will play.  Check out WWW.Rottentomatoes.com.  If the Godzilla 2014 score is 85 and up, you can pretty much believe that it will be an exciting movie.  But if the score is below 50, you can bet the movie will suck (at least to many of us).  Godzilla 1998 scored a 25.  Godzilla: King of the Monsters scored a 83.  I'm going to quess that Godzilla 2014 will score above 90, which will guarantee a world-wide box office of over a billion dollars.  And if that happens, you can be sure that there will be sequels to come (wouldn't it be cool to remake "Ghidrah, the Three Headed Monster").

Honestly, the only review i care for is Angry Joe's. Not that any of them is gonna stop me from watching this more than once.

If anyone remembers that godzilla films before 85 and after the first 5 or 6 films were based for kids, so the movies would have to be cheesy for the kids point of view,kinda like Barney. If people post that most godzilla films suck or were bad I must disagree. Every movie of godzilla in the 90s except for zilla was an awesome film.

So easy to criticize a legacy rather than offer something positive.

Who said Godzilla and the Godfather are equateable?  And, by the way, Godfather 3?  Yeah, no.  Ishiro Honda's original film is one of the most important entries in the history of cinema.  In Japan, its release also symbolized (ironically) that their economy was stabilizing after the horror that America exposed them to with our atomic weapons.  Granted, they needed a reality check, but no one was prepared for that level of overkill. No one believes these films (with the exception of the first) are high art.  However, if you know anything about how they're produced, you might have a bit more respect for all of the hard work that goes into them -- even the fluffier ones.  

That said, the Heisei Era and Millenium Era films are all quite dark and rather excellent -- I am, of course, referring to the original language versions as the western overdubs destroy all tension.  In the original Japanese, these films are thrillers.  Overdubbed, they are camp adventure films.

I know how movies are produced.  I worked for Universal Studios for twenty years.  I help market some of cinema's all-time greats films.  The original Godzilla movie IS a great movie.  The Godzilla franchise is cinema's most prolific franchise.  There are more Godzilla movies than there are James Bond movies.  But that doesn't mean I must shower everything Godzilla with an abundance of praise.  Saying something positive or nothing at all is impossible.  The arts, politics, religion and science are dependant on different opinions.  You and I probably agree on more things that we disagree.  For instance: I bet you have no problem with saying that Godzilla 1998 sucked....  See, we agree.

I find it amusing, as well as very selective, that Toho's opinion of the reinvision of their baby as objective seeing as their taste in films is scewed by the very films they are known for. I don't have to remind anyone that old Spider-Man, Batman & Superman issues have some of the most dated artwork within their treasured pages when compared to the photoshopped artwork of today. No one can deny that they are classics & the stories they tell are still honored & valued today. Toho's Godzilla movies are no different, especially when the depth of their mythology easily rivals anything found in the pages of Marvel or DC. Don't confuse technilogical limitations with a lack of passion or even a message. In fact, in this respect, any Godzilla film can easily rival those greats such as Scarface or even the Godfather itself. Only NOW has the King of the Monsters been given the type of attention, respect and budget that he so rightfully deserves.

So, techological feats aside, if those as passionate as Toho are pleased with the work that someone else has done with their own creation, that is MORE than enough for me.

I see where you are coming from, but I completely disagree.  Stan Lee, the creator of some of world greatest superheros (and one of the men that I most admire) gives nothing but praise to the movie versions of the characters that he created.  But we all know that some of the Marvel movies (Iron Man 3, Spiderman 3, Fantastic Four, Daredevil) were less than stellar.  And personally, I think the art work by Jack Kirby (FF, Thor, X-Men etc) and John Romita (SpiderMan) are better than today's artist (even though I admit I haven't seen a whole lot of it).  I believe that Godzilla 2014 will be one of the best movies of the year.  And I think it will go down as a monumental acheivement in film-making, like "Jaws" in 1975.  In fact, I believe that the pace of Godzilla 2014 will be similar to the pace (and blueprint) of Steven Spielberg's "Jaws."

TOHO loves it.. as opposed to the 98 film.. which they hated... so this can only mean.. sequels.. and they will refer to it as the Edwards Series. that would be cool if it happens.

Toho loves Legendary's movie? YES, YES, A MILLION TIMES YEEEESSSS!!!! I love this news, I knew Toho would love it, I knew it all along, and I'm more than happy to hear Toho actually LOVES IT, frankly the complete opposite reaction of TriStar's Zilla 98.

Guys stop arguing over bull **** ok, its getting fukkin stupid.....The only critic I care about is me. I saw godzilla vs megalon when Iwas about 3. By the time iI was about 12 Iowned every godzilla available in america. By the time iI was 15 again, I had every godzilla movie in america, up to destroyer. Im sure alot of you are like me. so it means a lot to me that they dont let us down, and I DO NOT think they  will,  based on what Iseen. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. some of the Godzilla movies were a little cheesy towards the middle especially when you noticed that they use the same film in ghiderah the three-headed monster, Godzilla vs monster zero and Godzilla vs gigan. Def wasnt happy king king 1 either. and everybody talks about the first movie which was very good but  dont forget the second one Godzilla raids again also known as gigantis the fire monster. 2 of my favs, I also loved vs biollante. Very gritty fighting.  Jus want to   kick ass takes names and maybe a fatality mortal combat style...... and a few sequels.

I am glad to hear Toho liked the new movie. If you remember in godzilla 98 the director cast charaters to resemble Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert to extend his political interests on the film industry. The Iguana movie was bad in of it self, but for a director to take one of the worlds iconic charactors and destroys its legacy because of his petty disgruntalments is inexcusable. I believe Gareth Edwards will redeem the west's interest and love for one of the worlds most beloved hero's to Japans standards. Thank you Garteth.

I think I know why TOHO allowed America to make a new monster.... Just look at the 1998 movie that we made. Its said that TOHO said that we weren't allowed to make a new monster(they tryed making chimera or somthing) but they said we could use a monster like king ghidora or mothra but for some reason the director or somone said no for some reason. Thanks TOHO for letting us make a monster :) See they didnt allow us to make a monster, it was bad. They let us make a new monster, they enjoy it. Again, Thanks TOHO

I agree with you on the fact that some Godzilla movie wouldn't necessarily be classified as "Instant classics." But Toho has admitted that they were meant for a family audience (meaning it was aimed for kids). Also because of the more family audience and people finding it cheesy, the budget went down, as did the quality, putting it in a bad cycle. That's why Toho took a break from Godzilla until '85, they new they weren't making high quality movies that some (like yourself) would consider good.

I respect Toho and their opinions on what Godzilla should be like, especially since they learned from the past and started making some pretty good movies from '85 on.

I don't think I've found an article that says Toho loves every movie they've made, so it can be assumed that they learned from their mistakes and making them better. Like the '98 Zilla, the creators knew they could've done a lot better and have admitted it.

So I'd say if Toho liked it, then it must have it's perks, but ultimately, it's up to each individual whether the movie is good or not. Critics are only paid to state opinions, and that does not make them fact. I've read reviews that said '98 Zilla was a great movie, I personally didn't like it.

So everyone has their own opinion, I respect everyone's here, though I may not agree, as should everyone else. Nothing wrong with stating an opinion, but when some people start to use insults and degrade others because they do not agree, that is the issue.

I always enjoy hearing others' points of views, because I feel I get a better understanding of the wrold around me.

@ Ratedrex I wholeheartedly agree with you. While I think we all love Toho and are thankful for being the genesis of the G-man, I think those of you who belive that every Godzilla movie Toho has turned out has been great or that they ALWAYS know what's best for the franchise are kidding themselves. Many of the older godzilla films, both from the Showa and Hesei series were mediocre to quite terrible (Godzilla vs Megalon, anyone?) and pretty much all of the good ones, even the 1954 original, haven't aged well at all.

On the subject of the 1998 Roland Emmerich movie, I don't like same as everybody else, but I won't endlessly **** on the thing simply because the Godzilla (or Zilla, whatever) in that film looked different than his Japanese counterparts. It's definitely not the worse Godzilla film ever made, trust me. It's one of the worse ones, but certainly not THE worst.

And finally, those who never trust critics are the dumbest fanbots imaginable. Yes, one should never treat the Rottentomatoes Tomatometer as the end-all, be-all of movie quality consensus, but for the most part and most of the time, the professional critics know what they're talking about and are generally more intelligent than the average, popcorn-eating dimwitted masses.

I for one am glad that Toho is happy with Gareth Edwards' reboot, but in my mind that doesn't automatically guarantee quality. You could argue that the Tomatometer doesn't either, but I'd say that a bunch different point of views offering a variety of opinions on a subject is more reliable than one studio giving their blessing of their namebrand product.
