Target has just unveiled a new Monsterverse Blu-ray collection bundle and oddly enough it doesn't contain all of the Monsterverse films. The 3-film collection features Blu-ray copies of Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla 2: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong, excluding the film that started it all, Gareth Edwards' Godzilla (2014).

The exclusion is likely due to the fact Warner Brothers are re-releasing Godzilla (2014) in 4K Ultra HD but it still seems rather odd to have left this film out of the collection pack seeing as it kicked off the Monsterverse entirely.

The 3-film collection is currently listed on Target's website for pre-order at $39.99. Although their listing does not contain a firm release date, we assume it will coincide with the release date of Godzilla vs. Kong's home entertainment debut on June 15th. However their shipping and returns page lists September 9th as the earliest arrival date. So, we're a tad confused on that discrepancy.

I actually was going to say something, but I’m just dumbfounded.

Yeah, they can't muck up a set with a good movie.

This isn't too strange, a lot of video releases leave out certain movies in a series. Plus this is meant to be a 3 movie bundle, not a complete MonsterVerse collection, otherwise they would have labeled it as such (and included G14). I figure that they will release one later (after the series ends), but for now I wouldn't be too upset by this.

Also G. H. (Gman),

was that comment really necessary...

Neither was my comment.

Yours wasn't needlessly mean spirited though...

SasquaDash,
Not a defining factor of necessity.

Alright I had to look back for this, having sworn I saw it somewhere, but there is a four film set of these movies coming out--At least in the UK. It's Region B and I can't find anything that says a Region A release is in the cards:

I meant was it really necessary to use this as an excuse to, once again, insult this series.

We get it, you don't like the MonsterVerse. But do you really need to bash it anytime it gets brought up...?

SasquaDash,
Nope. Just occasionally.

I don't get the vibe Gman was bashing the series at all with his comment, if anything what he said was true. Godzilla 2014 was, by most accounts the best film of the entire Monsterverse series. I agree with him, the sarcasm needs to be appreciated. I can't fathom why they wouldn't have included G14 for a multitude of reasons.

No news on a Steelbook version yet? I wanna add GvK steelbook edition to my ever increasing steelbook collection. Recently got the original GvK steelbook which looked so nice.

I'm sure one will be announced soon!

I'm more than glad that Target didn't muck up this collection with a frankly disappointing movie in my opinion.

That collection should stay the way it is, but on DVD.

godzilla had roughly 10 minutes of screen time in G14’ this may seem bad on the surface, but take into account that in a new hope, Vader only had 10-15 minutes. Both of these movies used great execution for each of their respective characters. I will say again, the little screen time is not a bad thing.

Sarcastic is right (in my opinion.)

I hate the human characters in G'14, the 2nd act was a boring slog, and the grey filter is so dang annoying...

I find it funny how people complain about how Godzilla doesn't have enough screen time in 2014, yet they're completely fine with older movies that barely show the creatures.

Jaws

Runtime: 2 hours, 10 minutes

Shark screen time: Around 4 minutes

Alien

Runtime: 1 hour, 57 minutes

Xenomorph screen time: 5 minutes, 13 seconds

(All 3 Forms)

Cloverfield

Runtime: 1 hour, 30 minutes

Clover screen time: 2 minutes, 38 seconds

Parasite screen time: 1 minute, 21 seconds

The Blob (1958)

Runtime: 1 hour, 26 minutes

Blob screen time: Around 1 minute, 26 seconds

And yet, people have a problem with Godzilla 2014's monster screen time.

Runtime: 2 hours, 3 minutes

Godzilla screen time: 10 minutes, 15 seconds

MUTO screen time: Around 12 minutes, 10 seconds

The second act isn’t a “boring slog” as you put it. It was filled with set up and decent muto action. Fans focused on good storytelling. As for the characters, they are based on preference. G14’ is more about ordinary people thrown into this cir***stance and doing amazing things.

The nest two films fall into having characters who already have advantages doing amazing things because we expect them to. (I like KOTM and GvK, but G14 is special to me.)

I just dislike Ford so much.

I don't know why.....I just think the acting wasn't good.
