Recently many sites have been reporting that Sony Pictures previously announced plans to extend their Spider-Man Cinematic Universe with Venom and Sinister Six spin offs and a third Amazing Spider-Man movie may not be as certain as previously believed. Following a lacklustre fan and critical response of this summers Amazing Spider-Man 2, rumors and speculation have been slowly circulating that studio Sony Pictures may be re-evaluating the franchise.
Fans and Critics response to ASM2 fell harder than Gwen Stacey in the movies obvious twist ending!
Reported rumors include the possibility of Sony allegedly opening channels with Disney and Marvel Studios to incorporate a possibly rebooted Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while recent speculation suggests that both Venom and Sinister Six spin offs have been scrapped!
These rumors have yet to be confirmed, though are bound to come as no surprise considering the poor fan response the new Amazing Spider-Man movies and the abomination that was 2007's Spider-Man 3 recieved, resulting from too much studio and producer interference, presumably from former Marvelite Avi Arad (whom sold the production rights to Sony and Columbia Pictures before leaving Marvel to produce the movies), whose obvious and overbearing influence on the movie franchise has driven the franchise and the character into near obscurity - with his refusal to adapt other Spider-Man stories such as The Clone Saga, Spider-Man 2099 and Ultimate Spider-Man, and his stubborn determination to only produce Peter Parker driven Spider-Man movies is the key factor in the characters and movies gradually decline in desirability.
