Terminator Genisys has divided audiences and critics with some loving the films high octane action and nostalgic self parody while others hate the movies retconning of first two classic movies and its convoluted and propostorous time jumping narrative. Domestically, AKA in the US, and in the UK and Europe the movie barely made an impact on the box office, but it seems Chinese audiences relished the movie with Chinese box office takings almost doubling the domestic and European box office takings in a matter of weeks.
Skydance Productions, whom produced and co-financed the movie with studio Paramount Pictures, have in a surprising move decided to slow down their plans for a trilogy and TV serial following the movies lacklustre box office performance and divided critical opinion. Speaking at a leadership conference with TheWrap Skydance Productions' Dana Goldberg spoke openly about the franchises immediate future...
“Do we intend to have a next step of Terminator? Yes, we do. I wouldn’t say on hold, so much as re-adjusting.”
“We’re ultimately happy with overall worldwide numbers. Do I wish we would have done better domestically? Absolutely. Happily, we live in the world where the domestic number had a level of importance 10 or 15 years ago — I’m not saying it’s not important, it is — but we have to play to a worldwide market. In terms of Terminator, the worldwide market paid attention, but we’re not taking the domestic number lightly.”
