Although Attack on Titan has a very split audience, decently recieved by non-fans and begrudged by anime/manga purists, there's no disputing that the film's look is among the most unique in tokusatsu. The live action adaptation is the first tokusatsu film to take the #1 box office spot in a very long time.
Director Shinji Higuchi (Co-Director of Godzilla 2016 and SFX Director for the Gamera Trilogy) has utilized both CGI and traditional tokusatsu effects to realize these titans and they take center stage over the characters in this violent, action-driven trailer. Be warned that the content might be questionable for a work enviroment. Take a look:
Attack on Titan is currently playing in Japanese theaters. FUNimation is scheduled to release the film this fall in North America. The film's sequel, Attack on Titan: End of the World opens September 9th of this year. Both films are directed by Shinji Higuchi. The television miniseries Attack on Titan: Beacon for Counterattack will air August 15th.
