The first Pacific Rim movie trailer debuted online on December 12th, 2012 and managed to attain over 7 million views on YouTube. Kaiju fans everywhere were instantly hooked and hyped for the film's release the following year. To this day, fans regard Pacific Rim as an instant classic within its own category. However since the introduction of its sequel, Pacific Rim Uprising fans have been comparing its aesthetic to Guillermo del Toro's original - some complaining the new film has a dramatically different feel to the original. Although there are obvious differences, there are numerous similarities as well. The contrast between the two films is interesting to note as well - most of Pacific Rim took place at night while Uprising will take place in daylight for the most part.
