While rumors continue to circulate regarding the elusive Kenobi project, a glimmer of hope for Obi-Wan's return has seemingly cropped up!
Before we dive into the latest report, to re-cap, Disney had originally planned to enter production on a stand alone Obi-Wan Kenobi anthology movie pretty much immediately after the Solo: A Star Wars Story premiered. However, after Solo tanked at the box office and critic feedback was less than stellar, Disney was forced to re-think their approach with regards to spending millions on big budget stand alone movies based on other Star Wsrs characters. Other anthology movies which were rumored to be in development included a Yoda movie and a Boba Fett movie. Both of which have all but vanished from existence... for now.
But, Obi-Wan still has a fighting chance! According to a fresh report by SWNN, they claim that the Obi-Wan movie is actually being restructured into a series for Disney's upcoming streaming service, Disney+.
In an effort to rival that of streaming giant Netflix and others like it, Disney are apparently ramping up their arsenal of exclusive properties to debut the service. Star Wars, Marvel and the recently acquired Fox film properties are but a few Disney will have at their disposal to really drive sales and subscriber activity when the platform actually launches.
It would not come as much of a surprise if this report, which we can claim as rumor for now, turns out to be true. This may also extend to the other Star Wars anthology projects which fell prey to the backburner after Solo's crash and burn - it's very likely Disney is planning a series spin-off for multiple iconic Star Wars characters.
As new details and confirmation regarding the Obi-Wan Kenobi series surface, we will be sure to keep you posted. In the meantime, let us know what you think of the possibility in the comments section!
