*Deadline broke news that Pacific Rim 2, shooting later this year, once again has an official release date. After being delayed to July and then August of 2017, the film is now set for a February 23rd, 2018 release date--Filling the kaiju void that year left by Godzilla 2's push to 2019.
Although February is usually considered a graveyard month for films, it's notable that's late February. March has slowly become the new month to kick off the blockbuster season and Pacific Rim 2 isn't the only big budget, tentpole movie expanding earlier into the year.
Marvel's Black Panther opens February 16th, 2018 for example. And Fox will kick off March with either Deadpool 2 or an X-Men related spinoff.
Pacific Rim 2 still has competition with those two films, but it's interesting to note that February is slowly absorbing release dates for bigger films.
