Disney and Marvel Studios are currently enjoying massive success with their Marvel Cinematic Universe, due to enter its third phase with next years Captain America: Civil War, with two highly successful Television serials, and many more movies and serials planned over the coming years. Following Disneys acquisition of Lucasfilm and their plans to produce new movies set within the legendary Star Wars Saga, both episodic and anthology, it will come as no surprise that the animation giant is also planning on releasing a set of live action Star Wars Television serials.
A report from Cinelinx suggests that as with Daredevil (pictured above), a Disney/Marvel Studios Television serial that has enjoyed huge success on streaming service Netflix, shedding the unsavoury shadow of the poorly recieved 2003 movie, Disney are looking to recreate the same success by airing up to three new TV serials on the service, all set within the Star Wars universe. The move away from traditional TV networks is in line with current viewing trends showing that most households now use on-demand and streaming services to watch TV shows, a trend that has led to the cancellation of popular shows such as Hannibal, Fringe and Constantine; because traditional viewing figures (which networks use to determine a shows renewal) do not take into account on-demand/streaming viewership figures.
Reportedly these live action Star Wars TV shows will be filmed in between production of the movies, allowing the shows cast and crew to use sets and assets from the movies within the shows, adding to the cinematic feel of the shows.
