Deadpool 2 will begin filming later this year with new director David Leitch at the helm replacing Tim Miller with Ryan Reynolds returning in the titular role. Although Colossus, Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) and cab driver Dopinder (Karan Soni) have been confirmed to be returning for the sequel, it is currently unknown if Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), Weasel (T.J. Miller) or Blind Al (Leslie Uggams) will also reprise their roles. Narratively the sequel, written by Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Drew Goddard is believed to feature many familiar faces from the Deadpool corner of the Marvel universe, including Domino who has let to be cast and the most publicized - time-traveling mutant Cable.
Hollywood Reporter recently reported that Man of Steel's General Zod AKA Michael Shannon is currently the front-runner for the role of Cable, allegedly replacing the former front-runner David Harbour (Stranger Things). Although Shannon is physically a much closer match for the role than Harbour, and could easily portray a straight man role to contrast against Reynolds improvisational style, many fans are still calling for either Stephen Lang or Ron Perlman to take on the role, both of which have even rallied to be cast in the sequel.
