After the mediocre attempt to bring 2000AD's no-nonsense, hard edged, hard boiled Judge to the big screen with 1995's Judge Dredd starring Sylvester Stallone, there were high hopes when news circulated that Lionsgate were rebooting the property. Dredd, or Dredd 3D, starring Karl Urban (Riddick, Star Trek), Olivia Thirlby (Juno, The Darkest Hour) and Lena Headey (300, Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles) was well recieved by critics and fans, but failed to recuperate its $45 million production costs at the box office.
The movie has since amassed a cult following from fans since being released on DVD and Blu-Ray, with 2000AD publisher Rebellion and Judge Dredd creator John Wagner also giving the movie high praise.
